Just an Idea...
'we never should have attempted that' Neraida thought. 'well at least Cosa isn't dead. hugh snoring like a drunken pig.' suddenly he let out a huge gurgling snore and jerked upright. then promptly fell back down groaning.
it truly was a miracle they both alive. Those guards meant business, and if not for Cosa's quick thinking, Neraida was sure they would both be dead. She had to hand it to him- he was definitely a huge help!
She then remembered Carolyn and Chase. "Oh no..."
i hope they've found someplace safe to hide the guards will be after them now that they knew what the two were doing. well at least Rencor thinks Cosa and I are dead."Cosa" the only response she got was another groan. "Cosa u'v got to get up we need to get contact of some other Circle members."
"Come on Cosa the fact that they threw us off that cliff saved who knows how many people.""well it certianly didn't save me my whole body is a bruise. By the was thanks for catching us."
"Don't complain about that I was barely consous ((spelled rong)) how was I supposed to slow our drcent with any kind of magic when I coulden't think straight?" Nerida stood up and held her hand out to Cosa. he grabbed it and she pulled him to his feet.
"So what members are we looking for exactly?" he asked.
"Carolyn and Chase. We need to get to them before Rencor does."
((no kidding))"stop complaining."
"Nerida, we can't do anything more. the Circle elder told us to find this place and we are not supposed to go over the bounds of our mission."
"Carolyn and chase need backup."
"They're going to get backup u think the circle is going to send 2 children off to find the most important artifact in the world, ALONE?"
"Yes that is our mission, still I don't like this Chase just got here, he's bound to have questions and Carolyn hasn't been here very long either, she wasn't born here like We were. I don't know how well they will be doing."
"Nerida don't worry Carolyn is smart and Chase seems to have picked up on things really fast. we have to get to the circle council and report. we can't go past our mission."
"Whatever you say..." grumbled Cosa, and the two dream-people prepared for the new day.
((POV SWITCHAROO!!!! BACK TO CHASE AND CAROLYYYYYYYYYN!))
Carolyn walked through the town in awe. How long had it been since she had been here? So much had changed. Everything had become more modern. All the newlywed couples she had met here on her last mission were now parents of lovely creatures. Oh, how she longed to meet them and see what they had become! But she had a mission, and she could waste no time. She had to find Keiral.

((didn't she go to see him that night? ok i'll fix it))he was standing with his back to the door leaning over something on a table. "IS that Carolyn?"
"Yes "she said
"Good I found that information u were looking for."
"I no u'r the best information gatherer in this area i am not dissappointed with any information u can give me."
"U may not be dissappointed by it but it is none the less troubling for anyone in or near the circle."
"what do you mean? what did you find out?" Carolyn was suddenly very, very worried/
(it'd be reel hard to tell u wat's going on so that it makes sence to u.U'd be better off reading it all since u'r last post.))
(yeah, dragon's right. its pretty darn confusing....)
((but its still good. AAgggg!!! i've got writers block. i can't think of anything to write on any of these stories!!))
Sudenly her head jerked up, "Chase!" she Called. "What?" Keiral asked.
"Thanks for the info!" carolyn yelled as she got up and ran from his house. Carolyn knew something was wrong. the tree outside the hotel was screaming (in her mind-- she is a dryad after all-- u no a tree sprite?)
((jeez, i have no clue what to write...))
((not yet- do u recommend it?))
(here is the story thus far)
A small girl ran silently into an open, airy glen and stopped in front of an ancient oak tree. She glanced around, making sure no one was watching and quickly disappeared into a hole behind it.
Little did she know, she was being watched. A man stood on the outside of the glen. He had followed her for miles, watching, waiting, planning. Now that he had finally found their meeting place he could tell the world who and what they really were. The man's expression coiled into a malicious smile and he pulled out a small blinking device. He threw it at the tree, and it latched on to the side conspicuous in the vines wrapped around the oak. Seeming content, the man walked slowly out of the glen. His evil smile growing larger with every step.
Meanwhile, the girl was deep in discussion with a.. well.. simply a being without a name, without a description, without identity. He was talking with a course, raspy voice that echoed into the depths of the tree. "What will happen?" he asked, "I haven't been able to find it and if Neraida hears about this i'll be -" Suddenly he was cut off by a beautiful creature that had just appeared. "What this about Neraida not hearing?" the woman asked. She was tall with green eyes and dark skin. Her hair was a chesnut brown and if she had not been moving she would have blended in perfectly with the tree. She was an elf, wandering wherever and whenever she wanted to be.
"Oh! Neraida! I.. um.. well.. I.. you see..." the thing stammered.
"Yes.." Neraida said patiently.
"Well, I couldn't find the book," he muttered, "I looked everywhere for it! i traveled for miles and miles in search!"
Neraida looked around and walked toward the wall. She slowly placed her hand on the wall, and suddenly yelled, "YOU DIDN'T FIND IT!!" anger welling up inside her, "I entrust you to do one single thing for the good of The Circle, but noo it's too hard for you! How could you not find it!!"
"There were complications," He cringed but nothing happened. Neraida didn't attack him. Yet.
"Complications?" She asked with a mocking voice.
He nodded fervently.
"Well, Cosa, I do believe you have some work to do," Neraida said matter-of-factly, "I have to have that book. Without it He-"she paused, "-will come back to The Circle and that disaster will happen all over again."
The little girl finally spoke up in a small, silky voice, "Neraida, Why don't you let me go?"
Neraida looked at her with an expression that looked like the girl had just asked her to blow up a building, "No, you absolutely may not! Carolyn, if we lost you, the whole point of finding the book would be lost," She said in a firm, motherly like tone. Cosa knew she was right. Neraida was usually right and (for an elf) she was unusually cunning. Elves were usually just sweet and pleasant. However, Neraida had become the leader of an unknown group called The Circle. It was a group for non-humans.
Cosa sighed. "What would you have me do?" he asked.
Suddenly another creature entered the tree holding onto a trembling boy, "I found him wandering around in the woods." said the creature.
"Good job, Keil"said Neraida. Keil was in fact a forest centaur.
Apparently they took no notice of the boy, who was glancing around, confused as ever. He was tall with a lanky sort of build. His sandy brown hair fell into his face, creating the illusionn that he couldn't see. but he could see everything.
His name was Chase, but they didn't know that, either. they also didn't realize that the boy could betray their secrets in one word, let alone run away. which he was contemplating, as well.
Finally, Carolyn glanced in his direction and asked,"What is your name boy?"
Her small stature and tinkling voice startled him for a moment. He answered,"My name's Chase. Where am I? What are you?"
Carolyn laughed and replied,"Your in a tree and I'm a nymph."
"a nymph? Trees? What are you talking about?" He asked scared.
Carolyn glanced at Neraida who nodded. She then turned toward him and asked, "Do you read books, fairy tales? Do you have night-mares?"
He answered slightly confused,"Yeah.. every kid does. Why?"
"Because you're in one."
Now a true look of fear was in the boys eyes. "What? What are you talking about? I can't! No!" He yelled.
Carolyn felt sorry for the boy, yet she went on, "Oh, yes. Now, you will never be able to leave. I am truly sorry."
"What?!" He cried. Chase felt terrified. "Why can't I wake up?" He begged.
"You are too far into the dream to wake up now. In your dreams, however, you can accomplish things you never thought of while awake." Carolyn replied.
Chase was still shaken from the shock. "I can never go back?" He asked. "Even if I killed myself?"
"Well, if you kill yourself, you won't be dreaming anyway so i guess.. if you want to, go ahead!" Cosa cut in.
Carolyn gave Cosa a harsh look and said comfortingly, "Chase, in your dreams you can become anything you want. An animal, a mythical creature like us or a cloud in the sky! You decide."
Chase vigorously shook his head. "I don't want to be anything! I just want to wake up... I just want to go home..." He started cry.
"I'm so sorry!" said Carolyn, "But you have no choice. You must be something or you will have to join Conture, the Humans' organization."
"What is this?" the boy asked. "If it's a dream..."
"No." Carolyn said. "I know what you're thinking. This is a dream, but it's a different type of dream. You cannot just do whatever you please."
Chase was very distraught and gave up after Carolyn's remark. Now Cosa and Neraida were at it again.
"You have to get the book somehow!" Neraida yelled.
Cosa just sat there doing nothing, "I can't, Neraida, only one person can get it and that person must not be me!"
Suddenly, Chase heard a sound and looked up to find the man entering the room.
Behind him were about ten more men armed with guns.
"Hello," the man said in a malicious voice, "We meet again, Neraida."
Neraida had a look of pure hatred on her face, "Rencor, what a.. pleasant surprise. I see you found where we were hiding."
Chase finally decided what side he preffered. He shut his eyes and turned into something. No one was entirely sure what he was. He twirled around and grabbed Rencor. He climbed out of their hiding spot and threw him off the tree.
Coming back in, he changed back to his normal shape.
"What are you?" Neraida asked breathlessly.
"A shape-shifter," Chase replied with a grin.
Neraida was very impressed. Never before had anyone so willingly accepted their new way of life.
"I didn't really like that man," Chase admitted. "He was sorta creepy."
Neraida grinned.
"Good instinct too," Neraida said with a smile appearing on her face, "I think you and Carolyn should go retrieve the book. Cosa, you and I have work to do here. Let's go find Rencor. Carolyn, you know what to do."
"Why can't I go?!" Cosa demanded.
Neraida sighed, annoyed, "Because, if you go, they'll never find it! Obviously the Book doesn't want to be found by you!"
Keil slowly walked over next to Cosa, "What will I do?"
"You need to find anyone and everyone who is like us. I don't think this is going to end without a fight. Everyone will set out tomorrow," Neraida demanded.
Cosa shrugged. "Fights are always good. I'll at least get to do something."
"If you're lucky," Neraida muttered.

(story part 2 (it was too long for just one post))
The next morning, Chase awoke refreshed and ready for the adventure to begin. His dark hair was untidy and dirty. He wondered how he would use his power on the journey.
Cosa entered the clearing just then. "How did you sleep?" He asked.
"Okay, I guess. It's wierd how I sleep even though i'm in a dream. What exactly are you and Neraida going to do?" Chase replied, stifling a yawn.
cosa didn't answer, "So, are you ready for an adventure then?" Cosa asked changing the subject.
Chase was confused. Were Cosa and Neraida in danger? Did this 'Rencor' and the Book have something in common?
"Yes, I'm ready . . . I guess."
Cosa turned with a smile on his face. "Good, then let's go shall we? So, what do you want to be Chase?"
"Hmm, something fast? And small, to be kind of invisible with. . ."
The next thing Cosa knew, there was a small swift fox sitting patiently where Chase was just standing.
Then Carolyn went to stand by Cosa and asked, "Is that Chase?"
The small fox twisted his head toward Carolyn and Cosa, grinned and said, "Yep it's me, the one and only shapeshifting Chase!"
He shifted again, into his usual form.
Carolyn giggled,"Are you ready to go?"
"Yeah, My stuff is still in the tree though," Chase replied.
"don't worry, you won't need it where we're going." Carolyn assured.
"Really?" She asked turning around.
"Nothing is needed on this quest."
"But it will be long, we have to have something!"
"We aren't taking anything, no questions asked."
Chase was bewildered, but he just turned to follow Carolyn.
Meanwhile....
Neraida was scouring the forest for the enemy. They had been invading the tree lately, and she wanted to get rid of them.
She continued to search the thick foliage surrounding her.
She heard a snap of a branch and immediately whirled. "Who goes there?!" She hissed. No one answered.
Then it went black as Neraida fell to the ground.
Chase ran as fast as he could through a dense forest looming overhead. He suddenly looked to his right to see a red fox jump out at him! Chase jolted awake screaming in fright of the dream he had just had.
Still breathing heavily, he stood and stretched glancing over at Carolyn, still fast asleep. The dream had occurred more than once and he was now very frightened by it.
He thought about waking Carolyn but thought against it.
Carolyn rest quietly, breathing slowly, and tossing and turning once every while.
He looked at her long thick hair. And saw her eyes closed peacefully.
Chase turned onto his back, and stared up at the stars. They were beautiful tonight, but fading. It was getting lighter.
As dawn approached, his mind was drawn to the beauty of the night. How peaceful and quiet it was, how safe it was. He stared at the beauty around him until the fingers of dawn stretched out toward him beckoning him to come and dance in the sun.
Chase felt himself gettin lighter.
He stood, and began.
He could feel them in every nerve of his fingers. The music and dances shook his soul. He could see the colors changing around him uninterrupted by the air. His hair stood on end as his body began to shake and they became real. The Krisalidi began to sing. These beings were part of him and part of his transformation from himself to anything. They were the things that had no body, no shape but a spirit and a mind. He himself was the only person who could feel and hear them; they gave him power.
They caressed his skin, spreading the feeling to his entire being as his skin absorbed their power.
As the sun moved over his head, he felt the energy seep through his fingers.
And then it stopped, but in the stillness, in the quiet, in the silence, he could still feel threads of their power unraveling through the air.
Suddenly, Carolyn stirred, and the magic stopped abruptly.
Carolyn gasped as she rubbed her eyes and the world around her came into view.
Chase was up and staring at her with vivid blue eyes.
Around him was a golden orb surrounding him with light. She slowly stood and walked toward him. She stretched out her petite fingers and touched the orb. It was smooth as glass, but cold as ice.
"what's this?"
Chase looked at her puzzled. "What do you mean?" He asked.
"The orb."
Chase looked around. "I don't see any orb." He said.
"But, it's right there!" She inisisted, "Around You!"
Chase looked at his hand. "Are you okay Carolyn? I don't see anything."
Chase took a step and his leg went through the glowing orb. He gasped as his leg began to burn like fire. Wincing he pulled his leg back in and did what he thought was right; he called the Krisalidi. As their song began to sing, the golden orb began to spin. It spun faster and faster until it suddenly stopped. Chase was gone and in his place was a huge red wolf. Carolyn whispered, "Chase?" The wolf howled a low sad howl and barred his teeth at her. Carolyn took a step back, afraid of what would happen next.
Chase felt pain and rage coursing through him in waves.
Carolyn knew it wasn't smart to leave Chase, but he had just made a full transformation, it may be safer to run.
She darted for a tree and ran up its trunk to the safety of the high branches.
In Chase's mind, he was fighting odd urges to jump out of the urge and kill Carolyn, but in his subconsious "Chase" mind he wanted to call back the Krisalidi.
He felt the odd primal senses taking over.
He suddenly broke forth from the glowing orb.
His rugged, auburn fur shook in the wind. He glowered up at the tree in which Carolyn sat. In the back of his mind he knew he needed the Krisalidi, but how could he summon them in wolf form. Suddenly without thought, the Krisalidi were there, not summoned and not singing. They were there upon the request of another. Rencor waltzed out of the shadows of the trees. Human anger surged through Chase's blood making him transform into a human again.
"Rencor!" Chase spat, "Long time, no see, right?"
Rencor chuckled maliciously, "Well your little friends led me here," he said gesturing to the Krisalidi who now disappeared.
Chase, now back in human form, scowled and said, "Rencor, what do you want?"
"To make a deal with you, my friend," Rencor replied.
"I don't make deals with humans," Chase said spitefully.
Rencor smiled,"What if i told you i knew where to find the book and i would help you?"
Chase's scowl deepened,"Never! I will not take your help."
For a brief moment, Rencor's face surged with overwhelming fury, but he quickly composed himself and forced a plastered on smile. "Of course, of course, I understand. And so does little Carolyn here!" He gestured to a dead tree trunk behind him, upon which Carolyn now sat, bound and gagged.
"But! You... What did you DO?" wailed Chase. What kind of powers did this man have, to bind, gag, and move a skillful teenage nymph without moving a muscle?
Rencor must have powers beyond anything Chase had ever seen. He could summon the Krisalidi, he could do things without even moving, but then Chase began to think, What other beings Rencor had on his side.
He realized then, how little he actually knew about this... war. Was it one race of being versus another race of being? Well, no, it couldn't be, because Nareida and Carolyn were two different creatures, working together. So what then? It seemed that Nareida and Rencor each had armies of various beings. So who, then, was on Rencor's side?
Chase didn't know too much about the creatures of this dreamland, but he knew that whatever it was was especially evil. Suddenly, Chase heard a voice in his head, 'Chase! he has the Vomaltan with him!'
The next morning, Chase awoke refreshed and ready for the adventure to begin. His dark hair was untidy and dirty. He wondered how he would use his power on the journey.
Cosa entered the clearing just then. "How did you sleep?" He asked.

(part numero threeo)
"Who's the Voltman?" he thought to himself. As if he had spoken the words out loud, the voice spoke in his head.
The Vomaltan!the voice hissed. Chase struggled to keep his face from revealing the strange thoughts racing through his head-- he decided to trust the voice, and he assumed the Vomaltan was some sort of weapon, so the last thing he needed was to make Rencor suspicious.
Then another thought crossed his mind.'If Rencor was on the human side how was he commanding my Krisalidi? does this mean he isn't human?'
Chase wasn't too sure... He gave Rencor a more identifying look but couldn't find anything.
Before he had time to dwell further on the thought, a hand whipped out to grab his and began pulling him away at a terrifying speed. I'm sorry Carolyn, he's got me now! thought Chase miserably. Then he looked up and saw, of all people, or of all nymphs, CAROLYN! SHE was his savior!
"Carolyn!" He exclaimed in surprise.
"hush, he can't see me. I left a spell shadow in my place." Chase heard the words, but he had a feeling that Rencor couldn't.
"I'm sorry Carolyn!" he called behind him hoping it would throw Rencor off the hint he had just dropped.
she pulled him all the faster weaving through trees then suddenly she pulled him inside one, sat down and started panting from the run.
"Thanks!" He said. She nodded out of breath. "I hope Rencor doesn't follow us." He said. "Did you have to jynx us?" Carolyn asked. She pointed behind her where thrashing sounds were being made.
"What are you talking about? Hey do you know what the Voltamon is?" he added as an after thought.
"The Vol- oh you've got to be kidding me! Yes, I know what it is. Why do you want to know? Wait, no, let's get out of here first, shall we? I guess I forgot to mention that I left a spell shadow in your place too, but he can sense our presence, so it's not long before-"
A roar of fury came from where Rencor was waiting with the spell shadows.
Carolyn yelped. "Run!"
"I'll explain later. We aren't safe yet!"
they left the protection of the tree Carolyn had hidden them in and continued to run. as their breath became ragged again they stopped short at a river.
"CArolyn what way do we go, upstream or down?"
"We have to go downstream... it's the only way to a safe haven."
"That safe haven being...?"
"A town. I'd rather not head towards the enemies territory anyway. We were close enough as it was."
"Well, of course. It's not far is it? I'm awfully tired."
Carolyn scoffed. "And that's the least of our problems. It's not too far- probably a day or so away."
"A day!" cried Chase.
Chase waded into the river and noticed it got very deep right away. "What r u doing?" carolyn asked.
Suddenly Chase started changing shape. "A dolphin?" Carolyn asked again.
"Well it'll be faster than walking." she heard chase say. "Come on grab on I'll do the swimming."
Carolyn waded in after him. She grabbed on to his back. "So how long will it take for us to get there now?" Chase asked.
carolyn laughed and said "just swim & we'll see"
"I can't say. To be honest, I've never taken a ride on a dolphin before!" Carolyn exclaimed with a smile.
"Well then, let's go!" cried Chase as they took off down the stream.
Chase nodded and started to flow downstream with the river. He found it a lot easier to be able to move his fins and give them a burst of speed. In only an hour they reached the village.
Carolyn stepped carefully off of Chase's back and he transformed back into his usual form.
"Now we just need to get to a tavern and get dried. There's a person that can help us here anyway."
"i take it you've been here before?" asked Chase.
"thousands of times! Come on, I know a great place right nearby."
"A tavern hey I'm only 16. WAY to young to be going to taverns." chase told Carolyn.
"it's different here than in u'r world, chase u have to remember that. the 2nd floor on the tavern we're going to has bedrooms we can rent. It is beginning to get dark now."
"oh... right." He muttered. They headed for the town.
they found the tavern and rented a room with 2 beds. then Carolyn left to find her contact.
chase sighed and laid in his bed, exhausted from the day.
'when carolyn gets back i'll ask her about what happened this morning. I don't know what happened with my krisalidi... wait a minuet, they were saying something about the voltomon maybe he was controling them with that. *sigh* I hope carolyn gets back soon I want to know more about this war I was stupid enough to get into.'
He soon fell asleep in his bed.
He didn't wake when Carolyn came into the room and fell asleep in her own bed, but once again he woke as the sun was coming up.
He sighed and laid back down.
he laid there thinking about his krisalidi why did Carolyn say he had an orb around him? would he loose control of his morphing if he called them up again? chase knew he had to call his krisalidi up again or he wouldn't be able to change. they gave him that power in return for him giving them his energy. so essentially they were magical spirits that were parasites? o well he3 couldn't morph without their gift.
He could feel them coming towards him now...
Well I hope Carolyn doesn't wake up on me like she did yesterday. it freaked her out. Chase stood up and spread his arms out the krisalidi had arrived.
He felt the same sensation when he had first felt them.
The growing energy, the flowing music weaving in and out of the air around him. They were trying to apologize for what they had done earlier. He could feel the same force around him as earlier and thought of the golden orb that was probably surrounding him. He knew better than to morph into something or try to get out, so he let the music take him and closed his eyes.
Suddenly he saw a valley dotted with trees and empty fields. To his left, was an old oak tree and to his right a cave. He walked slowly into the cave and pulled out an old gnarled book. He had found it.
"Who's the Voltman?" he thought to himself. As if he had spoken the words out loud, the voice spoke in his head.

POV Switch to Neraida and Cosa
Neraida groaned. her head killed.
She glanced over to Cosa who was still asleep and snoring.
"Oh no..."
i hope they've found someplace safe to hide the guards will be after them now that they knew what the two were doing. well at least Rencor thinks Cosa and I are dead.
"Cosa" the only response she got was another groan. "Cosa u'v got to get up we need to get contact of some other Circle members."
Cosa just groaned and turned over, swatting Neraida back. Neraida wondered what Chase had found in his new life, hoping it wasn't the Vomalton.
Rencor's guards were guarding something really important. The Circle really needed the book. With it, they could easily use an ancient majyc to find whatever Rencor didn't want them to find.
"Come on Cosa the fact that they threw us off that cliff saved who knows how many people."
"well it certianly didn't save me my whole body is a bruise.
"But they have to find the book first and we really need to find what exactly Rencor is up to," Cosa replied.
"stop complaining."
Neraida replied, "Yeah, I guess you're right. They'll be fine, Carolyn is a pretty experienced non-human. I guess we'll just do what I said at first."
"Whatever you say..." grumbled Cosa, and the two dream-people prepared for the new day.
POV switch to Chase and Carolyn
Carolyn walked through the town in awe. How long had it been since she had been here? So much had changed. Everything had become more modern. All the newlywed couples she had met here on her last mission were now parents of lovely creatures. Oh, how she longed to meet them and see what they had become! But she had a mission, and she could waste no time. She had to find Keiral.
She walked through the tavern and found a door with Keiral's name on it. She knocked on it.
"Come in," said a gruff voice.
he was standing with his back to the door leaning over something on a table. "IS that Carolyn?"
"Yes "she said
"Good I found that information u were looking for."
"I no u'r the best information gatherer in this area i am not dissappointed with any information u can give me."
"U may not be dissappointed by it but it is none the less troubling for anyone in or near the circle."
"what do you mean? what did you find out?" Carolyn was suddenly very, very worried.
Keiral sighed and his face fell, "Neraida and Cosa are dead. They were thrown from a cliff and.. well.. yeah.."
Carolyn fell to her knees as the force of immense sorrow was placed on her shoulders. Her eyes filled with tears.
Sudenly her head jerked up, "Chase!" she Called.
"What?" Keiral asked.
"Thanks for the info!" carolyn yelled as she got up and ran from his house. Carolyn knew something was wrong. the tree outside the hotel was screaming .

jeez louise youve been busy! and..... why exactly did you do that???
((Well that sure refreshes my memory. u've changed some things though, and thanks for filling in the holes the others in the story left out!!))
(i did it while i was reading it so it wasn't that bad
and it was pretty annoying to read it as thousands of different posts
>.<)

>.<)
((good question, to which i do not know the answer....))
((yeah, really. what the heck?))
((ok, then, someone DO SOMETHINGGGGG!!!!!!!!!!!))
((yeah i guess ur rite..... nvm then. its just this story that died :( i luv this story! but i dunno wut to do.....))
shr ran as fast as she could down the street pushing people out of her way as the city woke for the day. gasping for breath and with a sitch in her side so bad it was probably actually a cramp she arrived at the tavern.Carolyn gasped and covered her mouth and nose as the sight and smoke hit her at the same time. the tree and the tavern were both covered in flames. "Chase..."she whispered.then she collapsed in a fit of caughing as the smoke wafted past her. she was half aware of her shirt being pulled and that she was being dragged across the ground. With her eyes streaming from the smoke (or was it tears over Cosa, Nerida and Chase) she caught her breath and saw that it was a large black dog that had pulled her into a small alley between 2 buildings.
"Chase?"
"Carolyn are you ok?" the words were slightly slurred coming through the dog's mouth but it was Chase. he was alive not in the fire! "Can you disguise yourself somehow? we have to get out of here and they know we're here."
Carolyn had stopped coughing and said "no need for disguises. Chase you're gonna have to get small." He looked at her in confusion, "Ok" he said. "Just how small?"
"Well a mouse would be good. i need you to be small enough to carry and keep hidden. the humans probably think that you died in that fire."
"It wasn't just a fire, the whole place exploded."
"All the better. if they think you're dead then they'll be underestimating our strength. we'll have an advantage."
"well i've got enough power to stay in another shape for a few hours but after that we'll have to find someplace to hide." Carolyn nodded in acceptance and watched as Chase changed into a mouse before picking him up and sticking him in her pocket.
Carolyn stumbled around the burning building, coughing and wheezing, making it look like she had just shown up to find the flames. The smoke was making her eyes water, and she used that to her advantage, acting as though she were crying. "Ch- Chase?" she coughed out the words, then shrieked a loud, "NOOOO!" for good measure. Anybody within earshot would believe that her friend had just been reduced to a pile of ashes. So Carolyn faked one good, long look at the fire, coughed once, and ran off into the woods, as though she just couldn't stand it anymore.
Once safe beneath the leaves, Carolyn removed Chase from her pocket and smiled.
Once safe beneath the leaves, Carolyn removed Chase from her pocket and smiled.
"Well where to now?" she asked him."First we need to get as far ayay from here as we can. Hey, Carolyn, how well can you ride a horse?"
"Well," she repiled sheepishly "I've never ridden a horse before."
"Well keep going on foot to the nearest road then, When I can't leave footprints in the ground I'll give u u'r first lesson."
Carolyn wasn't so sure about riding Chase (Sorry if that sounds perverted - I swear I don't mean anything by it)but they did need to get as far away as fast as possible.
(((POV Switch! Nerida & Cosa)))
where do you think they went?" cosa asked.nerid a sighed, "i dont know, Carolyn said they were going north, but thats into danger by any means. she thought if the book was anywhere it would be right in the middle of the place we least wanted to go."
"Right into the human's territory?"
"Im afraid so" she looked at Cosa, he still had bruises from the beating and falling from the cliff.they really were lucky to be alive - and she had sent two children into a place that if they were found noone would hesitate to kill them."unless we know where they are, we cant help them except by distracting the humans and tricking them into focusing their attention on our borders so they might overlook chase and carolyn.
