June 2010
48. Into the Dark by Gena Showalter: 5/31/10--A collection of 3 short stories, interviews & preview-I enjoyed it but still don't have a very clear picture of her Lords of the Underworld...think I'll need to pick up a full novel to decide if I really do like it or not.
49. Come the Springby Julie Garwood: 6/1/10
50. Poppy Done to Death by Charlaine Harris:6/1/10:Loved it! This was the only Aurora Teagarden I hadn't read, and so enjoyed it! I really like her character and her outlook.
51.The Nymph King by Gena Showalter: 6/1/10: I read the last 2 books out of order, so was just dying to see what happened in this one, and devoured it in a few hours. Lots of fun, though had expected a larger role by Poseidon from hints in the other books. Still, quite good overall!
52.Street Gameby Christine Feehan: 6/3/10Communication...that's the word that kept running through my head all through this book. If they had communicated more honestly, they would have settled everything faster...but we wouldn't have had such a great story to read! Love the characters, and find them intriguing too. Very looking forward to reading more about the Ghostwalkers.
53.Guilty Pleasuresby Laurell Hamilton6/4/10 Seemed rather nostalgic to re-read after so much has changed in Anita's world...really enjoyed this first novel.
54.Mind Gameby Christine Feehan6/5/10 Just loving this series! Great interaction, and also curious to know more about their lives together after they've gotten together. There are glimpses of the characters with established relationships, but would like to know more...maybe in a future book!
55. Murder Gameby Christine Feehan6/6/10Still lovin it!
56. Real Murdersby Charlaine Harris 6/6/10
57. Kiss of Heat by Lora Leigh 6/7/10
58. First Drop of Crimsonby Jeaniene Frost 6/8/10: It was another fantastic visit to Frost's world. Loved seeing Bones and Cat again, and loved how the story of Spade and Denise developed. The end wasn't unexpected, but still satisfying. I look forward to more of these "side" stories!
59.Moon Calledby Patricia Briggs 6/9/10 This is a favorite series of mine, and still a good read no matter how many times I pick it up. If you haven't read it yet, you definitely should! One more thing, it's set in my hometown--love actually "seeing" the places Mercy's at even though I haven't been there in years or lived there much longer than that!
60.Dead Until Darkby Charlaine Harris 6/10/10Ms. Harris is one of my favorite authors...always pre-order her books and can't wait for them to arrive. I haven't gone back to the start of Sookie's adventures in quite awhile, and it was really fun to visit again. She's a refreshingly "real" heroine, and I enjoy a few laughs at her take on the events happening in her life.
61.The Julius Houseby Charlaine Harris 6/11/10 My C. Harris kick is continuing! I'm a fan of all 4 of her series, and really enjoy her heroines. They all have a slightly quirky, but pretty straightforward outtake on life. They are thoughtful, as in ponder, about the events occuring, but don't brood.I always find them quite refreshing!
62.Unleash the Nightby Sherrilyn Kenyon 6/11/10
63.Ecstasyby Jacquelyn Frank6/13/10 Wow! Loved this book...the characters, the depth of the world, and totally hot! The Shadowdwellers are an intriguingly different paranormal group, and their society is quite interesting and well-developed. I'm really looking forward to the next in this series!
64.Three Bedrooms, One Corpseby Charlaine Harris 6/14/10
65.Three Fatesby Nora Robers 6/15/10Though it was a slow start, I did enjoy this book. The interaction between the siblings and their fated mates was fun and lively, and the villain-ess was quite a piece of work...left me cheering for her final end.
66.Sugarplum Deadby Carolyn Hart 6/17/10 I've been on a kick for mysteries, especially with a hint of romance, this month. This was a re-read, but it's been years since I read this novel. Partway through, I did remember "who did it"...but loved looking for the hints to tip it off. Fun!
67.Night Gameby Christine Feehan 6/18/10 Love Gator! I loved "hearing" his voice, and his off-beat sense of humor with Flame. She's tough and vulnerable, and they made a good match. Still looking forward to the next books in the series, and always love a HAE with hints of dangers in the future.
68.The Amazing Mrs. Pollifaxby Dorothy Gilman 6/19/10 Picked this up again for "A Lifetime of Books" challenge...and though a little dated, is still very fun. Mrs. P is a very resourceful courier, not a spy, and her stories are always refreshing due to her outlook and nature.
69.Awaken to Pleasureby Nalini Singh 6/19/10 Very sweet and very hot! Charming romance with such a "feel-good" ending!
70.The Wolf and the Doveby Kathleen Woodiwiss 6/20/10 Classic romance...wonderful adventure to get caught up in again.
71.Megan's Markby Lora Leigh 6/21/10
72. Hidden Currents by Christine Feehan 6/22/10 I really enjoy the Drake Sisters series. Though it probably is the end of their series, I do hope to see them more, at least a little bit in Feehan's new series.
73. Tiger Eyeby Marjorie Liu 6/24/10
73. If You Dareby Kresley Cole 6/25/10 Perhaps my favorite of this trilogy! Enjoy laughs along with the steamy romance, and the lovely HEA!
74. Speaker for the Deadby Orson Scott Card 6/26/10 I love this book/series. It's one I pick up to read every so often, and each time, find it a powerful, thought-provoking read. Now I've got an itch to read the rest of the series again too!
75. Eye of Heavenby Marjorie Liu 6/28/10 Liu has created a fascinating, complex world, with many elements left to puzzle out in future novels. A very satisfying read.
76. Secrets of a Summer Nightby Lisa Kleypas 6/28/10 Picked this up on impulse to fulfill a challenge as the library request still hasn't arrived. This is the first of Kleypas' books that I've read, and I enjoyed it quite a bit. Picked it up for the challenge, but will pick up the rest of the series because it was a fun story...some unpredictable parts, some nicely steamy ones, and a lovely HEA, with the promise of more appearances by this main pair in the other books.

21st ChallengeCompleted 7/4/10
Challenge Task: Read one book written by our featured author: Janet Evanovich aka Steffie Hall
Duration: July 1, 2010 - July 31, 2010
Two for the Dough

Started as:
C - Totally new to this author. Will see how I like it.
I stopped at the international center today to see if they had more "recent/in genres I like" books, and found one by this month's author. So, will give it a try!
After reading:
B - could take it or leave it. Was not an unpleasant experience but I'm not burning rubber to get to her other books.
This is the first novel I've read by Evanovich. I picked it up for this challenge, but wasn't so interested in it at first. Stephanie March grows on you though, and by the middle, I couldn't wait to see what happens next. The relationships and dialogue are funny and such a slice of another world. Good read. Will definitely keep an eye out for more, though will only try and pick them up at the library.

Currently Reading & Plan to read
78. Sea Feverby Virginia Kantra 7/1/10This is part 2 of a trilogy, and good continuation of the story from the perspective of the second couple.
79. Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel 7/1/10 Fantastic story...reminds me of why I loved many Latin American writers...the mix of the fantastic and magical in the real world is very evocative.
80. Rapture by Jacquelyn Frank 7/2/10 Book 2 of the Shadowdwellers...really good! Daenaira is a very strong, satisfying character and the sparks as she and Magnus establish their relationship/partnership are hot! Very good read...HAVE to read book 3 next!
81. Pleasureby Jacquelyn Frank 7/3/10 Very good! My only "complaint" would be that I would have liked to see the two stories integrated a little bit more! Very satisfying end though!
82. Two for the Doughby Janet Evanovich 7/4/10 This is the first novel I've read by Evanovich. I picked it up for a challenge, but wasn't so interested in it at first. Stephanie March grows on you though, and by the middle, I couldn't wait to see what happens next. The relationships and dialogue are funny and such a slice of another world. Good read. Will definitely keep an eye out for more, though will try and pick them up at the library.
83. Arrows of the Queenby Mercedes Lackey 7/5/10 I first read this more than 20 years ago. It's still a touching, triumphant story that I enjoy very much. Lackey has created a rich world in her Valdemar series, and this first step into it makes me want to read the whole thing again!
84. Hallowe'en Party by Agatha Christie 7/6/10 It was a little hard to get into, maybe because I was a little sleepy but one needs to concentrate to find the clues... The last pages flew, I was sure I knew one of the murderers, and a couple of good guesses about the "partner". As is usual for Christie, it was all nicely wrapped up at the end.
85. Gentle Warriorby Julie Garwood 7/6/10 Played against a medieval backdrop where a rebellious vassal has caused mayhem, Elizabeth and Geoffrey discover love and compromise. A lovely tale with a feisty heroine and a fun, refreshing read.
86. Pleasure Unbound by Larissa Ione 7/7/10 I loved this book! Definitely putting this on my "to read" series list. There is a lot of information to take in at first about this new world which made the start a little difficult, but once "references" were established, the story was just HOT! Love the mix of characters and good/evil!
87. When Darkness Comesby Alexandra Ivy 7/8/10 Quite a nice read, but read just after a GREAT book... It didn't have as much depth, and the character development left some unanswered questions...thought they came together faster than seemed believable. Still, a nice one, and will pick up others in the series, eventually.
88. The Forbidden Tower by Marion Zimmer Bradley 7/9/10
89. The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger 7/10/10 Wow....what a book. At the start, I loved it, and couldn't put it down until the end (except when real-life demanded my attention). I thought this was a book I'd want to pick up and re-read...but not so sure now. Definitely a book worth reading though, and I even shed a tear over it...Clare was about my age...and I'm dying to know about the intervening 40 or so years.
90. Predatory Game by Christine Feehan 7/11/10 Very good!
91. Upon the Midnight Clear by Sherrilyn Kenyon 7/11/10 The first time I read this, I thought, "Gee, what a large font for a novel." It is really short, but a sweet read, and nice holiday story. Not one of Kenyon's greatest, but a nice novella.
92. The Flame and the Flower by Kathleen Woodiwiss 7/12/10
93. The Crusader's Torch by Chelsea Quinn Yarbro 7/16/10 This one took awhile to read; it is a very good, very dense book. Such a vivid depiction of the surrounding historical circumstances as well. Great read, and good to savor.
94. Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs 7/18/10 I love this series!!!!
95. Jane's Warlordby Angela Knight 7/19/20
96. Bridget Jones's Diary by Helen Fielding 7/19/20 Fun light read for a holiday like today.
97. Firebird by Mercedes Lackey 7/20/10
98. Bonds of Justice by Nalini Singh 7/22/10 It FINALLY arrived...loved the book, 5 stars and can't wait for the next one!!
99. Her Heart's Divide by Kathleen Dienne 7/22/10 Short, hot story. Bought as an e-book, and was surprised at the quick read...
100. Burning Up Anthology #1 Whispers of Sin 7/22/10; COMPLETED All: 7/29/10
101. You Slay Me by Katie MacAleister 7/24/10
102. Dragonquest by Anne McCaffrey 7/26/10 I LOVE this series! It has been a favorite since I first read it back in junior or senior high. The characters are so real and vivid, and the action is fantastic. This is a book I'm sure I'll continue to enjoy in years to come!
103. Dragonsong by Anne McCaffrey 7/27/10 First of the YA series for Harper Hall that is set at the same time as Dragonquest, but the story of a teenage girl. Very sweet story, and Menolly, the girl, grows into a much larger character in the series.
104. A if for Alibii by Sue Grafton 7/27/10 I was NOT going to seriously read this today because I have so many other "have to-s" right now...but couldn't put it down...I think I stopped when I got "caught up" on the series and had to wait too long between books. I think I'll enjoy slowly getting caught up with Kinsey again, and see what new things have developed in her world! Looking forward to it!
105. Dragonsinger by Anne McCaffrey 7/30/10 Started the series again, and now have to read them all! Lovely, moving story of Menolly coming into her own place.
106. Dragondrums by Anne McCaffrey 7/31/10 Trilogy re-read complete!
New books still in TBR
Eldest by Christopher Paolini
Wolf Flight
Wolf Games
Daughter of the Night
Nocturne
Secrets of the Wolf
Deadly Game by Christine Feehan
Hot Spell
Enslave Me Sweetly

I think I've gotten a little too enthusiastic about challenges (but that does NOT mean I'm going to quit joining as they're irresistably fun! (and sorry that I can no longer spell tonight! I've changed the spelling on "irresistably several times...and it won't come right! Sleep time!))

Hope you sleep well! NITE!

Hope you sleep well! NITE!"
I did...sort of...(and the ..ahem ..couple of beers sure helped...). Was gonna tell ya about it, but too much trouble (not a hangover...just the result of sleeping in 3 hour and 2 hour and 1 hour segments...for a total of almost six rather schizo sleeping hours. BUT, library today, and challenge play today! Happy, happy J!

33rd Challenge
1/1 Completed 8/27/10
Challenge Duration: The whole month

A - I'm a big fan! I'm excited to read another of her books.
A - would definitely look at her other books, since I've enjoyed this one very much.
My copy of Lover Mine is "closer" to arriving, so it was nice to refresh my memory of where the brothers are at, and now I'm even more impatient to read it! I love seeing where the characters have gone, but Xhex kind of bugs me because I have some trouble "buying" her feelings about John Matthew. So, looking forward to "their" book.

READ

August 2010
Currently Reading & Plan to read
107. Black Dust Mambo by Adrian Phoenix 8/2/10 My first by this author, and this is the first of the series. I'm amazed at the SHORT time frame in the story, but it was good and tight...and a cliffhanger for number 2. I just remembered why I often pick up older series...not as long a wait!
108. Deadly Game by Christine Feehan 8/4/10 Last of my on-hand books for this series...definitely will keep reading!
109. Desire Unchained by Larissa Ione 8/5/10 The series is heating up even more...she's got lots of exciting twists and hot romance!
110. The Door into Summer by Robert A. Heinlein 8/6/10
111. Hard Eight by Janet Evanovich 8/7/10 I'm getting more interested in this series...but am reading it out of order which is starting to bug me!!
112. Enslave Me Sweetly by Gena Showalter 8/8/10
113. Sea Lord by Virginia Kantra 8/9/10
114. Devil in Winter by Lisa Kleypas 8/9/10
115. Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder 8/10/10 I loved this book, and ordered the next two as soon as I set it down. Very compelling writing, and lovely twists throughout the story!
116. The Price of Freedom by Jenny Schwartz 8/10/10 My only complaint is that I wanted a longer story about the characters...but I really enjoyed the story anyway and will keep an eye out for more!
117. Crocodile on the Sandbank by Elizabeth Peters 8/13/10
118. The Unexpected Mrs. Pollifax by Dorothy Gilman 8/14/10
119. Rite of Conquest by Judith Tarr 8/16/10 A bit hard to get in to, but a very solid read.
120. The Panther's Lair by Esmerelda Bishop 8/18/10
121. The Immortal Highlander by Karen Marie Moning 8/18/10
122. New Moon by Midori Snyder 8/19/10
123. The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula LeGuin 8/21/10 A very powerful book...took awhile to get into it, but incredible description and thought.
124. Ashes of Midnight by Lara Adrien 8/22/10
125. Animal Dreams by Barbara Kingsolver 8/23/10 This is a fantastic story. Kingsolver creates a vivid picture, and very real characters that you can't help but connect with. I've read this numerous times, and still cry, and feel joy along with the characters.
126. Obsidian Butterfly by Laurell K. Hamilton 8/24/10
127. Lover Avenged by J.R. Ward 8/27/10
128. Atlantis Rising by Alyssa Day 8/29/10
129. N.P. by Banana Yoshimoto 8/29/10 Connected scenes creating a story, visually...This story was image rich, and minimalist at the same time. Though I read it in English, I could hear much of it in Japanese in my head which made it very familiar but strange. I never get a feeling of deep connection with Yoshimoto's characters, but feel an attraction and curiosity toward them.
130. The Dark is Rising by Susan Cooper 8/29/10 A perpetual favorite with bits of Arthurian myth in the struggle between the Light and the Dark. Love it!

132. Dream Chaser by Sherrilyn Kenyon 8/30/10
