Best times to be gay, really.

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Why not Tuesday's, Mark? LOL

message 255: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments Tuesday is half-price wings day at the local Hooters! i will always straighten up for that kind of deal.

message 256: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Ah...I see.

message 257: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments jason, it is all about cheap food options and other good deals. my sexual orientation is quite mercenary in its outlook, very "Black Company".

message 258: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments It's absurd and there's no good reason they gave me that name.

Also, I have been known to identify myself as "not straight" and just leave it there :)

message 259: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments LOL. Cheap food and good deals is always awesome! I love wing night myself. And Hooters always takes my mind off things...

Yeah, actually, I meant that to sound exactly the way it did. LOL

haha that gave me a good giggle.

message 262: by Lambert (new)

Lambert Cheung IT's true, some stories can be predictable, but the thing I must point
out is that being predictable doesn't necessarily make something bad
or poorly written.........is fact, there are times when predictability
is a sign of good story telling....it mean the story is flowing seamlessly and smoothly. A wise teacher of mine once told me, when
your mind is settled, then the vision becomes clear....and in the case of good story telling, it often means it becomes predictable becuase it's good. And it doesn't mean it's any less exciting......example......
CAR CHASES ARE VERY PREDICTABLE..........BUT THAT DOESN"T STOP PEOPLE FROM BEING EXCITED TO WATCH THEM ON THE NEWS

message 263: by Nick (new)

Nick I'm a huge A Song of Ice and Fire fan but have pretty much gone through every topic about the series there is for now. Have to wait for Dance now.

But on Facebook there is an A Song of Ice and Fire group that I am a part of with over 11k members and over a thousand discussion threads on A Song of Ice and Fire. We've covered everything 10x over lol
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid...

Check it out and you'll be surprised by all the theories there are for just this one series. :)

message 264: by Moon (new)

Moon I'm reading A Storm of Swords and still liking the series so far. :)

message 265: by [deleted user] (new)

Warning from GRRM

Amazon.de screwed up and shipped out 180 copies of A Dance With Dragons early. Some of those lucky germans have been going around dropping spoilers and whatnot.

Just tossing this out there for those of you who hate having books spoiled.

message 266: by Roshio (new)

Roshio | 106 comments aah thanks. lucky Germans is right. Its good to know the book exists though, I almost didn't believe it.

message 267: by Mach (new)

Mach | 572 comments Atleast now we know for sure that the book is published.

message 268: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Can you believe those bastards? Do they have nothing better to do than to ruin the plot for everyone? That's crazy and pisses me off!

LOL

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Machavelli wrote: "Atleast now we know for sure that the book is published."

Hmmm....Maybe this is just a trick. Martin feeding us hope only to take it away when the book is supposed to be in our hands. LOL

Do I sound Jaded?

message 270: by Amanda (new)

Amanda (daughterofoak) In GRRM's blog, he says that not all of the spoilers out there are true...or is this just a case of trying to undo the damage?
LOL Jason :)

message 271: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Or it could be a publicity stunt.

message 272: by MrsJoseph *grouchy*, *good karma* (new)

MrsJoseph *grouchy* (mrsjoseph) | 7282 comments I don't understand why they just won't release the dang book. Obviously the book has been released and I've heard that German B&M stores are selling openly. So get on with it and people won't have to worry about being spoiled.

message 273: by Jackie (new)

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 857 comments Well said, Mrs. J.

message 274: by [deleted user] (new)

Nothing is sacred anymore. Was it really a screw-up or was someone being an asshat? Incompetence abounds, but so does corruption. And why do people feel the need to be a douche and make stuff up (the whole false spoiler crap)?
I'm just staying away from all the sites pertaining to the topic so I don't have to worry about it. Except for this one...for the moment =D

message 275: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Cotterill (rachelcotterill) I've just started reading these... I sort of didn't want to start until the series is finished, but then I had a sudden yearning for a proper large-scale epic. (OK, maybe not such an unusual yearning for me...) So far, I love it, the political world seems very well developed which may be my #1 requirement.

message 276: by [deleted user] (new)

There's a buddy read going for book 2, Rachel. Feel free to jump in there

Thanks - I'll be on to book 2 in a couple of days (just finished 1) so I'll find the thread then :)

message 280: by [deleted user] (new)

I rather like the Greyjoy one. Though I'm tempted to Cthulhu-ize it :P

message 281: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments Awesome, Ala!

message 282: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat | 0 comments I like the Clegane one best, and while I hate to say it, Greyjoy would be next. Baratheon looks like an oversized reindeer and Stark like a single color version of the Nashville Preds logo.

message 283: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (_shannon) | 289 comments Very cool. I like the Greyjoy one the best.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments Okay...maybe not the place to mention it, but I'm throwing in the towel. I'm through Storm of Swords (barely) and I don't think I'll read any further. I guess everyone can't like everything.

message 285: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments The series isn't for everyone, Mike. :D

message 286: by Mina (new)

Mina Khan (spicebites) | 141 comments So I'm reading A Clash of Kings now...and loved the whole "Esgred" scene :)

BTW, what is this buddy read?

message 287: by Traci (new)

Traci A buddy read is an informal group read between members who agree to read the same book. It can be a book not eligible for a group read. A sequel or one that has already been a group read. Or not.

message 288: by Mina (new)

Mina Khan (spicebites) | 141 comments TY! Appreciate the help as I muddle my way through Goodreads :P

message 289: by Traci (new)

Traci They can actually be funner than group reads. Just check the "folder" that is for buddy reads for members looking for someone to read with or to ask yourself.

Mike (the Paladin) (thepaladin) | 5387 comments The phrase is "what is this Buddy Read thing you speak of?" I mean we are nerds here...

Anyway, it's where a group of friends (here) decide to read a book at the same time and discuss it. It's just not an official "monthly read".

message 291: by Mina (last edited Oct 09, 2011 03:18PM) (new)

Mina Khan (spicebites) | 141 comments Found it! Thanks so much Traci, & thank you Mike for sharing the correct phrasing...sometimes my exotic accent just trips me up ;D

i dont fully get why ppl call her naive... she is a strong ruler, but refuses to just throw away every shred of honor and such just to satisfy everyone... every time she does something that isnt so neat, at least she has the consience, thinking... and despite bad things, she still has hope that there is good in people... some of you may call that being naive, but i think it is sweet :P

message 295: by Lianne (last edited Apr 24, 2012 10:50AM) (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) Jason wrote: "Who are your favorite characters? And why?"

My favourite characters are Ned (my first favourite character, actually; I loved how much backstory and history we got through his chapters. His honour got him into trouble at the end, but that's also what I like about him), Jaime (his character arc has to be my favourite in the entire series, very compelling), Tyrion ((view spoiler)), Arya (loved her from the start), Brienne (another strong, great character) and Sansa (my second favourite character arc in the entire series, the psychology in AFoC was especially fascinating to read).

Jason wrote: Which is your favorite book, and why?"

Well I obviously love A Game of Thrones because it introduces the reader to the world of Westeros, both its complex history and the underlying brutality (Ned's fate shocked me so much that I didn't pick up ACoK until several years later! Yeah, my first foray into the more gritter, new fantasy). It also moved very quickly, which was great (unlike AFoC/ADwD).

But I would have to say that my favourite book in the series is A Storm of Swords. I was on edge from start to finish, there were so many OMG =O moments (I wish I had read this book sitting down; I read most of it while waiting in line to take a regional bus back home for Reading Week) and it's such a game changer.

message 296: by mark (new)

mark monday (majestic-plural) | 380 comments same here... i love the first 3, they are 3 of my favorite books ever. but A Storm of Swords is the real favorite of them all.

message 297: by Jason (new)

Jason (darkfiction) | 3204 comments A Storm of Swords kicks some serious butt!

message 298: by Robert (new)

Robert | 6 comments I hate to say it, but with the long periods of time between books, I sort of lost interest. I do have to say that at the time I was reading them, I found the story to be riveting, with surprising twists. Sometimes the extreme descriptions of sexual activity felt overdone, but other than that I enjoyed the series. My fave character was Jon Snow, btw. I suspect I'll eventually get back to it.

Rhiannon Taylor (rhiannonjtaylor) Robert wrote: "I hate to say it, but with the long periods of time between books, I sort of lost interest. I do have to say that at the time I was reading them, I found the story to be riveting, with surprising ..."

I had the same problem. I took a break between the first and second book, and haven't been able to motivate myself to read the next one, since I know I'll have to reread "A Game of Thrones". It was a riveting first book, and I couldn't put it down until I finished. (Now I've lost my copy of "A Game of Thrones" so I can't reread until I either find or buy a new one)

Ned was my favorite so far, and part of the reason why I took a break between book 1 and 2. He's sympathetic and easy to root for. I felt like I could really like Jon Snow too, but he only had a few chapters devoted to him in the first book, so I didn't really feel like I knew him well enough for him to be a favorite character yet. It probably changes, so he probably would become my next favorite character.

*sigh* I need to finish this series.

Katy (kathy_h) Rhiannon wrote: "...*sigh* I need to finish this series. "
GRRM needs to finish this series. Just re-read the 1st four to get back into it and to start A Dance With Dragons. So I've got to get back and get that one read, but then the waiting...
