Books You Get So Into And End Up Having Bad Endings

Graceling had a horrid ending I think. It was just...left there hanging in the air, even though it's apart of a series it was just so bad. The rest of the book is great but!

Don't be, it's a great book and I really enjoyed it, It's got a great story to it. Just the ending ticks me off. I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy =]

Since theres no epic battle in Breaking dawn whats the point of making it in parts??

I agree about the Percy Jackson movie it was horrible, absolutly nothing like the books

They want to make it into more parts cuz they want the money. Plus they were like, "Look, Harry Potter did it, why shouldn't we?"

The Hunger Games is about a dystopian society in which the government forces 24 kids from ages 12-18 to fight to the death, and forces all citizens to watch it. As horrible as that sounds, it's a fascinating adventure story.

I agree, Hunger Games trilogy is awesome as.

But, I think the ending to the last book was absolutely horrible, I'd even go as far as saying I hated the last 3 chapters. I'm really disappointed.

Yeah, agreed. i think, like i said, the last three chapters just were pretty horrible. It could have been so much better.

i agree with most thats been said. the lightning thief was horrible, breaking dawn has absolutely no reason for being two parts, and i has better start reading the hunger games! is it really that good?

The Lightning Thief had a lot of content that wasn't in the book at all. One thing that disappointed me a lot was the age difference between the movie characters and the book characters. I mean, Percy was seventeen in this one! :(

A book that I thought had an indefinite ending are the Maximum Ride series, particularly the last book, Fang by James Patterson. The books are just getting dragged out, and I have no idea when the series is going to end. I enjoyed the first three, and then after, it got a little boring.

Another one is The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong. There were a lot of questions waiting to be answered, though for some reason I was satisfied, and not too worried about how it would play out. The action just ended in the middle of the plot, which was abrupt.

I agree with what you said about the reckoning but there are going to be more books in the series. I was quite annoyed that so many things were just left unanswered and then I realised there are going to be more books. That was the end of the darkest powers trilogy but the next part in the series is the darkness rising trilogy with different protagonists but the main characters from the first trilogy will be in the third book probably. The darkness rising series is not out yet. Sorry if you already know this but I wanted to tell you in case you didn't know.

The series seemed to go downhill at The Final Warning, then i thought he sorta made up for it in Max, but then i hated the ending in Fang.

I still say that the Maximum Ride series should've ended where it was originally intended to end: with Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports.

Granted, I was one of the ones who sat obsessively on the website trying to get to a million clicks so that JP would write another one... Of course, I didn't know how horrid Final Warning would be, but I regret that decision. :/

I agree wholeheartedly. I didn't actually go for the million clicks, but I was happy to see another book...until I read it, and decided it should have stopped with the book before it.

Has anyone else heard the rumor that Breaking Dawn Part 2 is being twisted to create a battle scene at the end, instead of the lame and boring ending of the actual book?

The more I think about Mockingjay, Booklover23, the more I hate it. She ruined the whole basis of The Hunger Games by moving away from the fast-paced thrills.

As for Breaking Dawn, the whole point is money, as well as the fact that they'd completely kill the book if they tried to squish it into one movie. The battle rumor would make for an interesting twist, but I know it would make quite a few fans upset, and I don't know if they're willing to take that risk. Personally, I don't like the idea of changing it from the book, but the thought of no battle makes me want to throw rotten tomatoes.

Mockingjay was a good book- just compared with the rest of the series it was very disappointing. It was very slow and there were too many war scenes in my opinion. I enjoyed more of the parts when Katniss dealt with her situations and how she adapted, and how we got to learn how it all affected her.

I really liked 'The book of Luke'...untill the ending. All this stuff happens witht he book and stuff, looses everyone, then it just ties up neatly and ends...it was quite dissapointing tbh. But the rest of the book is good :)

The whole book was damn awful. I cringe thinking about it... The first two were marvelous, but Mockingjay was atrocious.

I agree for the most part, but if the writing/plot/etc. is bad, then it's no fun. And if you analyze it in a review after the fact, it helps other people to keep from reading books they won't like.

I read for enjoyment, too, Natalie, but sometimes you can't help it. There are certain books that I pick, thinking I will like them, and I end up thinking they are the worst books in the world. Or said worst books are a part of a series I want to finish, so I kind of have to read them.

And Kate's right, reviews help people avoid books they won't like. Personally, if a book sounds really good to me I'll usually avoid bad reviews, but they're there as a warning of sorts.

What I hate is in English, looking for hidden meaning that probably wasn't even there in the first place... I just want to read the book.

Exactly. I think half the time the symbols and motifs aren't actually there, the English teacher just sees it. I mean, I really like my English teacher, but when we read Macbeth, she kept talking about how clothes were a motif, but I think Shakespeare just happened to use metaphors with clothes in them.

It takes all the fun out of it. If you have a terrible book for school, you are forced to dwell on it and think about it and reread it and analyze it. If you have a good or okay book, by the time you are finished the work on it it is nowhere near as good as it seemed before and most of the time you end up sick of it or hating it. I especially hate it when it's a book you don't like and the teacher is going on about the symbolism and how great it is and how clever the author is and you are just thinking about how bad it is and then you are forced to pretend you like it and write positively about it. I wouldn't mind if we could discuss the themes and messages honestly and argue about why or why not it is good but you can't have your own opinion.

Our teacher lets us disagree, we just have to have a reason. Like, I couldn't argue that I thought clothes weren't a motif (or I guess I could, but ti wold be pointless) but a lot of the class was going on about how Holden Caulfield and the Catcher in the Rye are so annoying, and although she didn't agree, she listened.
