Reading The Funeral Boat and enjoying it. I love Kate Ellis. All her Wesley Peterson novels are wonderful, my favorite type of British mystery.

Just finished the wonderful and very British Moon Over Soho and just starting in on the very American Storm Front and loving it so far.

I have the most extensive fantasy library of anyone I know, so I'm thinking of making a sign-out sheet.

Many of us have gone down that road Chelsea. I came the point that very few get to borrow my books. There are certain books I keep multiples of so that if I loan them I just assume they won't be coming back. LOL
Brett wrote: "MrsJoseph wrote: "Chelsea wrote: "I got my copies of Pawn of Prophecy, Queen of Sorcery, and Magician's Gambit from my friend who had them for three years......"Oooh! Hard choice!!
I'd vote for Valdemar since you have 20+ where the Belgariad is only 12 (if you count the mallorean, Belgarath, and Polgara...but seriously...I hardly ever read Polgara).

I'm with Carol! I've gotten to the "you touch my book, you pull back a bloody stub" point.
I know it is hard to lend out books. I have those I will and those I won't. If I can easily replace a book, I have no qualms about lending it out. If it is one that is hard to replace I will not do it. I have gotten my nieces and other people into reading by lending out books I've read and then discussing them. To me it is important to have the books enjoyed rather than me hoarding them. I am not saying others are hoarders here, but rather I know that I am a hoarder when it comes to books. My husband has told me that we could heat our home with my books.
I used to lend but gradually stopped. Burned by someone I liked never returning three or four mysteries... Then I have another book-lover at work I thought would be 'safe' to lend to... unfortunately, she has yet to return the books. Of course, all of the ones I lent were part of a set, so they aren't really replaceable. A couple have been reprinted, but look different from the rest. I won't lend ones that are out of print or were hard for me to find. Like Mike, a few of my favorites I have 'extras' of when I replaced with hardcover, or trade editions. Those I'll lend. I like sharing the joy of books, but too many go out of print too fast, and price/condition are too chancy on the secondary market.
Carol wrote: "I used to lend but gradually stopped. Burned by someone I liked never returning three or four mysteries... Then I have another book-lover at work I thought would be 'safe' to lend to... unfortunate..."^This.
I've had people either not return books...or return them all messed up. I had one really good friend completely bend a book cover in have (Trade Paperback). I asked her to replace it. After giving me attitude "what's the big deal?? It's just a book. You can still read it." So she just kept the book and did not replace it. I replaced it but I have not been able to get a copy of that edition again.
I realized that most people will not take care of my books the way I need them taken care of. So no lends.
MrsJoseph wrote: "Carol wrote: "I used to lend but gradually stopped. Burned by someone I liked never returning three or four mysteries... I know the feeling. I loaned out one of my Harry Dresden books, and it was passed onto another friend to give back, but apparently, he liked the book so much, he decided to keep it. I have resigned myself to buying another copy. Now, I am resolved to only loan books to people who are as anal about books as I am, and not my HTF books. And I make sure they understand I want the books back!

I keep renewing them while I wait for the third but I assume whoever has the third book will want at least one the books I have borrowed. I guess the wait continues and I will have to resort to reading some of my own books I guess.
Finished Zone One which was rather disappointing for a zombie apocalypse book. I have John Dies at the End which sounds interesting. Kind of excited, because Wong writes some great stuff at cracked.com
My friend, Jackie, just recommended John Dies at the End. It is moving up in my TBR pile for sure. I am reading Gillespie and I Its very good.
Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Like John Dies at the End...love The Hobbit. Read it first many years ago."You would totally love this lecture series, then. He goes in-depth for each chapter and discusses a lot of things.
I've noticed a lot more similarities between The Belgariad and Tolkien's work lately.
I just finished Damsel In Distress and started The Cardinal's Blades. The contrast between Carola Dunn's quaint British English and the lousy English translation of Pierre Pevel's novel is staggering. Although the story seems to develop nicely, dangling participles dot every page, and pronouns referring to the wrong nouns mar almost every paragraph. I'm a grammar freak. Each time my eyes stumble upon such mistakes, frustration builds up. I feel jarred out of the story; a very disorienting experience. Maybe it's just the first couple chapters.
Last night finished up the Magister's Trilogy with Legacy of Kings, great story! Then today, book 2 of The Black Jewels Trilogy: Daughter of the Blood, Heir to the Shadows, Queen of the Darkness was delivered. How fortuitous! I'm 15 pages in...
Also enjoying The Darkest Road on audio. It's been on hiatus for a while, but I'm back in Fionivar...
Having read Mistborn lately thought I'd continue with that series but as I started what I thought was the next book I got so confused. Characters doing what the shouldn't want to do. Doing what they shouldn't be able to do. And then I after a couple of chapters I finally thought to look...yup, I was trying to read book 3 instead of 2. I hate when that happens. :)Not sure what I'm going to read next tbh...

I am currently re-reading Necroscopeby Brian Lumley. Such a good set of books, plus bringing back memories from when I first read it twenty years ago!
Currently reading The Map of Time in between all my Uni reading :) Really liking it so far! It's very different to anything I have read (Maybe because I haven't read a lot of Sci-Fi! ;)
Almost finished with A Discovery of Witches. Unless something brilliant happens in the final 100 pages, I'm marking this as a letdown...
Ursula wrote: "I'm currently reading Storm Front by Jim Butcher"This is a great series, Ursula. I hope you enjoy it. I've already read the first six books and I'm a steadfast Harry Dresden fan.
I've been on a big SciFi kick lately, too. Currently reading Pandora's Star and listening to Redemption Ark.
Traci wrote: "@ Laura, love Map of Time!!Reading SciFi at the moment too. The New Space Opera 2."
I'm nearly finished! I love it! It's so clever and so different :)
Valerie wrote: "Almost finished with A Discovery of Witches. Unless something brilliant happens in the final 100 pages, I'm marking this as a letdown..."Haven't picked this one up to read exactly for the reason you've listed. Too many reviews were unimpressed. Anyone like it?
Kathy wrote: "Haven't picked this one up to read exactly for the reason you've listed. Too many reviews were unimpressed. Anyone like it? "I tried, but it ended up in my DNF shelf. I might pick it up again in the Summer, when I have the time to waste. Its just not...inspiring.
right now I'm happily flipping through Good Omens , Don't know why its taken me so long to finally pick it up.
Kathy wrote: "Haven't picked this one up to read exactly for the reason you've listed. Too many reviews were unimpressed. Anyone like it?"I read it quite some time ago, got it from the library. I don't remember much about it but did make a note to look for the next book in the series so must have liked it well enough for that at least.
I am reading a few books right nowby audio: A Bad Day for Pretty
And by text: Revolutionary Road Gardens of the Moon
Finally had to start The Hunger Games... and the games are just about ready to begin. Good read so far. =)
(Also, my first Kindle read. I finally did it. Enjoying that too!)
Ok. I finished (with The Hunger Games). =)
That was a fun quick read - and if there was any doubt that my eyes would not like reading on my Kindle, it is now gone.
Not sure where the books must go to from here... but I'm definitely glad I read the book before going to see the movie. Never realized it was such a recent publish (2008)! That picked up a huge fan base quick.
Doot do doo... what to read/download next.
I am currently taking a break from Urban Fantasy and reading Garden Spells by Sarah Addison Allen. I am mesmerized by her writing style.I love it! It has pulled me in from the start. And I'd never heard about her had I not joined this group. Thanks Olga for telling me about her!
I just finished Ready Player One. I'm on a streak of great books. Hope it doesn't end. This morning I started The Bottoms.
Reading Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson. Mixed feelings about it so far, and it's a bit dry. I'm sticking to it, though, because I want to know how it ends.
I've finished Curse of Chalion by Lois McMaster Bujold and
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, both were very good.
Now I'm reading
Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson. These big novels always take a little while to get going.
Lizzy wrote: "Reading Quicksilver by Neal Stephenson. Mixed feelings about it so far, and it's a bit dry. I'm sticking to it, though, because I want to know how it ends."Good luck because I tried many time to finish it, but never could ever though I found what it said on the back interesting.
Ursula wrote: "I've finished Storm Front now I'm reading Fool Moon both by Jim Butcher"I love Harry! Don't you think he is the greatest?
