I'm currently reading Dead as a Doornail, The Bleeding Season, and Three Maids for a Crown: A Novel of the Grey Sisters. I've been in the mood for historical fiction lately, but I think I feel a fantasy mood coming on :)
Just started reading Awakenings by Edward Lazellari and it has started out great! It drew me in right away and I have not been able to put it down.I haven't finished it yet but am glad to know the author is working on the followup novel.
Awakenings - Edward Lazellari

Ah, I loved this series. Best of luck!
I just picked up (in eBook form) the Wise Man's Fear and Clockwork Prince.
Oh, and Dark Sun by Robert Muchamore. I've read the entirety of the cherub series, but this one has eluded me for far too long! yay!
Looking forward to reading Awakenings, Brett.I started Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell on audio last night. I'm quite enjoying it so far. The length (26 discs) is daunting, so it should keep my commutes busy.
Finally finished The Graveyard Book which was great. Now I'm starting Tigana. I've been meaning to read this one for a while.
Decided to read Magician: Apprentice last night. I can't believe I took this long to read this! It's derivative, to be sure, but it's still great fun. I appreciate the character building, as well.
Regina, I know what you mean. I'm trying like mad to finish my challenge books and my review books before the end of the year, and squeeze that around all the other stuff I have to do right now.
Changed my mind and set aside Tigana for now and went to Guy Gavriel Kay's earlier work: The Summer Tree. I'm hoping A Song for Arbonne hasn't spoiled me since I heard his earlier work isn't quite as good. We shall see.
Just finished Captain's Fury and am going to make a start on The Curse of Chalion. Also reading Kitty and the Dead Man's Handwhich I picked up from a library sale this week for 20p. Oh, and going to give In Shades of Greya go on my Kindle too.
Lady Danielle "The Book Huntress" wrote: "Thanks, Regina. You too! I hope you get a white Christmas. I wish I could!"It doesn't look like it will be white and in Chicago! It is crazy.
I have been waiting for 1Q84 from the library for awhile, it looks very interesting.
Traci wrote: "Kevin wrote: "Reading 1Q84 after many who have read it said it was a good book."Are you liking it?"
I have not started it, but I read some of his others books, which I found great, and magical.
Aloha wrote: "1Q84 is an absolutely genius piece of work."I hope so being three books in one, and having been a long time on the New York Times Bestseller list.
I have not been so mentally stimulated by a book in a long time. It's original and thoughtful. I've read no other book like it except for Harukami's other books.
Aloha wrote: "It pushed me to another reading direction. I want to find books that give me the same mental high."I know what you mean. That is what I felt by all of his work.
Reading all these 1000 page tomes lately makes me want to count them as 4 books read. I'm getting used to them. I'm disappointed now if a book is less than 500. LOL
I just picked up the Joy Luck Club from the library.I also got my hands on New Spring and The Way of Kings. I've technically already read The Way of Kings, but it was quite a long time ago and it rubbed me the wrong way, so I thought that I'd pick it up and give it another chance.
I can't wait to get my hands on 1Q84. I gifted this to 2 of my friends and they have been raving about it. Time to get my own copy I guess.
It's a great read, Soan. There's a forum for discussing the book. There's a lot going on in the book, which can be easily missed if you're used to the traditional plot building style.
There's always lot going on with Murakami's books. I love his work. And esp the fact that his books take you to another dimension itself. You can't come out of them untouched, whether in a good way or in an annoyed way.
Gah, I need to get my hands on that one. The public library has 61 holds on a total of 12 copies, so this will be difficult. (For 1Q84)

Aloha wrote: "It's a great read, Soan. There's a forum for discussing the book. There's a lot going on in the book, which can be easily missed if you're used to the traditional plot building style."All his books are untraditional.
Traci wrote: "What book would you recommend to someone who hasn't read this author before, Kevin?"No, I would recommend to one of his shorter books.
I am going to be starting a clash of kings on Christmas. Can't wait...Loved the first and I have high hopes for the rest of the series.

I love the book. I think its the best book that I have ever read. It has everything anyone could want in a book.
I'm currently reading 1Q84. I have it on a seven-day loan from the library, so it'll be a race to see if I can finish it in time.
....it seems like everyone but me has either read or is reading IQ84. Lol. I'll have to look at this author...Finishing up Reaper's Gale today and then on to Toll the Hounds. Finally. Can't believe I'll only have three more Malazans to go.
We get a xmas eve gift to open, and my wife got me Jane Slayre: The Literary Classic with a Blood-Sucking Twist and I started on it already.Finished Magician: Apprentice the other day and it was fantastic! Can't wait to read more in this series.

(For 1Q84)"About 3 weeks ago I was number 60 on my library's ebook copy and I just got it yesterday. Definitely put your name on the list. Mine is loaded up and waiting for me on the kindle.
I am listening to The Name of the Wind at first I found the book hard to get in to, not sure if it was because it was a narration and it is dense, but now I am about 50% in and I am hooked.
Putting The Well of Ascension and The Glass Books of the Dream Eaters on hold - it's not that I don't like them, I just haven't been in a reading mood for a month and can't get back into them. (They're also massively overdue at the library. Whoops.)Meanwhile, I started The Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and am really enjoying it so far.

You really should. You should get one of his short story collections and read one of his short stories in order to see if you like his style before deciding to read his longer works.
I'm reading The Magicians and getting a little impatient with it. I'm over halfway through it. I appreciate the cool ideas, I don't think the writing's bad or anything, but I'm having a hard time feeling connected to any of the characters. I actually really want to punch Quentin. Can anyone give me some hope? I've been ordered to love this by a reliable friend/book buddy, and I've read too far to quit...I just want to know, I guess, if I'm alone with my misgivings and everyone else wants to marry this book.
Nope, I can't. Maybe some of the people who liked it will chime in, but I didn't care for it. My review if you want to read it:
