Bong Song was the first book I ever stop reading and didn't want to finish. Couldn't get into it. Now reading The Fall.
I am starting my period of reading Japanese authors. My book menu:
My Audible credit kicks in today and I'm going to download and start on
audio. I also have an eBook backup in case I need to refer to it via the written word.In paperback, I'm reading
. This is a really good, thought provoking horror. Loving it so far. Since my girl will be at her dad's this weekend, I'm hoping to sit in a bookstore/cafe and read a huge chunk of it or finish it.On the iPhone for when I'm waiting somewhere with no reading materials, or in the dark in bed, I'm reading
. I saw the movie a long time ago. It was a mesmerizing thought provoking movie. I'm finally getting around to reading the book.I still have my collections, which I've been neglecting, but is good for cleaning the palate between the Japanese books.
When I'm tired of reading, I'd like to draw from
. If you're into the visual of horror and zombies, I highly recommend this book even if you don't draw. This book has gorgeous drawings of zombies, and is laid out in an entertaining way. I would get it for your kids or for your inner child.I finished
audio. It was entertaining and enjoyable. I wish I hadn't seen the movie before listening to the book. I would have enjoyed it more and be more surprised. JM did a terrific job updating the classic werewolf concept. Sorry, Jason, but I decided not to pursue reading
and
. I'm in this mood to read Japanese authors and want to start right away. I listened to part of A Game of Thrones, and it sounds terrific. When I'm back in the mood to listen to fantasy, I'm going to start with that one.
I finally remembered some of my thoughts from my reading of
while I was traveling. I guess it's good I didn't remember all of my thoughts because it became a long review. I love this little book and I'm glad I was able to write a review for it. Here is the link to the review:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/52...
I keep hearing about The Cannibal Within. I think I might check it out someday, especially after your review, Aloha.
Jason, you know I have a quirky point of view on things. Enjoy it for the bloody cannibalism. That is also delicious!
Right now I'm near finished Mr. Monster by Dan Wells. I'm really enjoying it. Next I'm going to read The Red Church by Scott Nicholson.
I've been on a bit of a horror kick lately, to celebrate Halloween. Though I'm usually reading something horrific anyway, whether it be a short story or novel.
I'm in the middle of a couple of series. The OCD side of my personality is very anxious to get back to them but I'm taking a break to read Dracula, which is being discussed in a couple of my groups here. AFter that, I'll either get back to the Night Huntress books by Jeaniene Frost or continue my re-read of the Outlander series. I **HAVE** to re-read the whole series before I can allow myself to enjoy the latest one (An Echo in the Bone.)
Well, I tried to read Mistborn, but confess my heart and mind are still stuck in Malazan so instead I'm reading Night of Knives along with the Tor Malazan re-read of the Fallen.
I just finished Peter S Beagle's The Last Unicorn : The Lost Version and it was great :)! It sort of felt like it was tinged with Clive Barker in a way and the authors notes on the story before and after were great to read too. I think I'm finally going to get out there and read more of his books!

Also, have you read Beagle's
A Fine and Private Place? It's completely different and shows just what a talented author he is.

The version of The Last Unicorn I read was his oroginal version which featured the Unicorn in a modern world and traveling with a demon! Very interesting!
Michi wrote: "I had the need for something trashy, so I'm reading: Gil's All Fright Diner"Lol It's not trashy at all it's what I like to call fun and frivolous. I hope he writes more books about the pair in that book actually.
you have to admit that the blurb really sounds trashy, but after finishing the book yesterday I really have to say that it was a funny and good novel.just started The Summer Tree
I thought Gil's was funny and good, too. A fun read, and I look forward to reading more from that author as well.

The original is such a lovely work of fantasy.
Just finished Locked Doors: A Thriller which was excellent and just started The Name of the Wind which I'm enjoying already though I haven't gotten very far.
I finished
. Love it, love it, love it! Beautiful writing, seamless usage of metaphors and descriptions that lulls you into the poetry of the story. This is a book that contains the subject of underage male with older woman and incest, but written in a sensitive and metaphysical way. I'm planning to write a review for it soon.I am now listening to
. The narrator is okay, not as terrific as the two narrators in Kafka on the Shore. The writing is still terrific. He has a thing for cats. Lots of cats in Kafka on the Shore, too.Barely touching
because my life is too scattered right now.

Hi,I just finished Brian Ruckley's Winterbirth. I'm currently reading J.C. Hine's Goblin Hero and S.M. Stirling's Peshawar Lancers.
:)
The world-building is great. Refreshingly different from most fantasy settings. Actually, magic in this world is oh so subtle and only a very few get to use it. The biggest draw is the socio-political structures as presented by Ruckley and the complex dynamics the characters find themselves in. But the storytelling is agonizingly slow. Its as if the whole book is a setup for something wilder cuz I don't think the writer can go any slower. You could check out more of my thoughts here:http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32...
BTW, I usually reread books after a couple of months and sometimes my opinion changes. Winterbirth will most likely get a reread next year, when I get a copy of the sequel. Any different opinions on the book are more than welcome. :)
Michi wrote: "I had the need for something trashy, so I'm reading: Gil's All Fright Diner"Thanks for the heads up on this title. will be looking for it, thanks!
I had to put away
for another time. The long weaving was magical in
, but overly long in The Wind-Up. I know I'm barely into it at about 2 hours of audio, but I'm bored with the slow building. I was craving for the tension and suspense of horror. After going through several audios, I decided on
. The introduction where the author was describing the inspiration of his book was terrific. It was inspired by his experience of traveling in Asia with the SARS virus outbreak.
I will. Let's hope I stick with this one. I hate it when I don't want to finish a book. But I hate it more when I force myself to finish one.
I do that, too. If a book doesn't keep my interest, or if I simply don't like it...hey, life is short. Why torture myself? I'd rather read something I like.
Since joining Goodreads and making great reading friends with lots of great books and movies suggestions, I have to be fickle now. Too many good stuff brought to my attention! I'm not getting any younger.
I finished The Given Day a few days ago (it was great) and have started The Well of Ascension. Only about 50 pages into it so far...
That's good to know, because after 100 pages it just seems more of the same Push, Pull, etc. I'm hoping for more developments soon!I did get 50 pages further last night at the hospital waiting to get my chin stitched up. Another hockey scar to add to the collection...
Yeah, if I have one complaint about Sanderson's work, it's that. He can be a little like Robert Jordan, i.e. a little slow when developing plot/character. LOL Thank god he's not as slow as Jordan though!
I now have some books and audios that I am drooling to start. I am being totally hedonistic and reading according to what is really thrilling me. I don't care if I have to put perfectly good audios and books that I am currently reading aside for them. I purchased with my audio credits on Audible
and
. My heightened nerves had enjoyed
so much, I am craving for more of the kind. If It and Claiborne is anything like Misery, I will be very happy. Then a friend read
and asked what I thought about it. She thought surely that I must have read it, since it's exactly the kind of book I would like. I looked at the description on Amazon and started drooling all over the keyboard. But I'll read it after
, which is a terrifically written horror so far. So I don't mind waiting to read Perfume.
It is a fantastic read. I'm sure you'll enjoy it, Aloha.I've been wanting to read Perfume for some time now. I saw the movie version a few years ago, and I liked it. Interesting concept!

I also want to have a period of Haruki Murakami reading. I want to get a good feel as to what his writing is all about. But I constantly need a reading change, so I don't know how many books of his I can read before I need something different. Haruki Murakami, that's one Japanese name I can remember clearly. Now, I have other Japanese names to memorize. It's a tongue twister of Japanese names.
