Lol mmmmm saucy!
MrsJoseph, it was like a week and a half. I'd be hard pressed to read 6 or 7 books in a week unless I was on vacation. Monster Hunter Vendetta is a great read as well by the way. I don't think you'll be disappointed. I went ahead and read Mistborn because I'd wanted to read it even tho it lost for the March epic fantasy read. I'm glad I did. Highly enjoyable. I'll check out
The Song of the Lioness Quartet. Thanks for the recommendation!
Becky, I've read the first 5 but not the last 2 of the Dark Tower series. They definitely get progressively better but gosh that first book was hard to make it through. I hope the last 2 books are great :)

Yeah, but that doesn't mean it's not awesome. For everything that happens and everything that is developed, it's awesome.
Well it wasn't quite awesome to me... It was really good still, don't get me wrong, but it didn't quite make my personal awesome meter ding :)
I stopped reading the Wizard & Glass series around book 4 when I caught up to his publishing schedule. Thank God King doesn't like to make his readers wait. He finished it much quicker than I expected him to. I actually own the entire series (mostly hardback) but I haven't started reading them again yet. Funny enough, I love the poem the series is based off of.

MrsJoseph wrote: "I stopped reading the Wizard & Glass series around book 4 when I caught up to his publishing schedule. Thank God King doesn't like to make his readers wait. There are parts I really love, but then I think that there are parts that really drag on... My favorite is the last book in the series, with book 5 (Wolves of the Calla) a close 2nd.
And it's funny that you should mention King not making his readers wait, because there was a huge gap between books 3 and 4... And lots of impatient readers! LOL
I can only imagine that there were a lot of impatient readers, lol. I was *sorta* one of them... I stopped at book 4 but that was just getting published and he was making "I'm not finishing this" noises.I was thinking of the 10+ year gaps that a lot of authors like. One good example (not getting on GRRM) is Auel's The Clan of the Cave Bear series. She started that series before I was born I think...she's just now getting ready to release the final book in the series...I caught up to her publishing schedule in high school (or earlier).
Oh, by the way, MrsJ - you can enter for a chance to win a copy of Auel's latest here: http://read-it-forward.crownpublishin... :)
Becky wrote: "I've never read any of Auel's books... but I do mean to one day. A friend of mine loves them. :)"They were pretty good from what I remember. My major issue with them is the main female character, Ayla. She's just a little too unbelieveable for words. I'm a fantasy reader and even I was like, "Come on!!! Really??!" Once you get past the eye rolling and you hold yourself back from tossing the book across the room, you'll enjoy yourself.
I love King, but can't get into his Gunslinger books for some reason. I enjoyed the first one. It was strange and, at some points, exciting. But the second and third books fell flat upon my mind. I have a friend in real life who keeps urging me on to finish the series. I might, but my tbr pile is massive with books that I prefer to read.
There is a desire to finish the series, though. Who knows. Maybe one day.
Wow... I think you're the only person I've ever heard say that they like the first book more than the 2nd and 3rd. If you didn't like those two, you probably wouldn't like the rest of the series much better...

I really enjoyed the Gunslinger - have you ever read the Poem "Childe Roland to the Dark Tower Came?" http://www.darktowercompendium.com/po... It's a great poem and I think that I loved the series more because I'd already read this poem.
I didn't really get into the Dark Tower series until book 5 and 6. I liked the first three, the fourth even more... But 5 was where I became hooked and it crossed the line into book love.
I really didn't like the 2nd and 3rd of the gunslinger series. Maybe I'll be like Nicki and like the rest much better!
One book that I am not going to rushing to buy and read is The Wise Man's Fear, read a spoiler of the book that makes me hate Kovthe even more as a character. Now reading The Dragons of Eden: Speculations on the Evolution of Human Intelligence then on to what I have been waiting for getting it on Thursday, The Collected Stories: The Legend of Drizzt, as excited to read this book as those reading The Wise Man's Fear. Afterwards then We Have Always Lived in the Castle.
Kevin, you know that by bringing up WMF so often, you're only calling more attention to the book, right? LOL
Becky wrote: "Kevin, you know that by bringing up WMF so often, you're only calling more attention to the book, right? LOL"There needs to be two sides of a coin, I am just trying to provide the tails to everyone's head.
I will definately give Gunslinger another go. I just have to get through some of my tbr books that I'm excited about first.
Strangely enough, I bought a audio book of the Gunslinger for my husband just a few days ago. He hasn't started it yet. I hope he likes it.
I just finished Things Fall Apart, started on Saturday now just finished, going to try and finish the sequel No Longer At Ease tomorrow, put Dragons of Eden on hold until Saturday.
I've always disliked Things Fall Apart. It's a good book - don't get me wrong - but it's so sad and unjust. It frustrates me and I hate to be frustrated in my personal reading.
MrsJoseph wrote: "I've always disliked Things Fall Apart. It's a good book - don't get me wrong - but it's so sad and unjust. It frustrates me and I hate to be frustrated in my personal reading."I know what you mean.
Nicki, I really enjoyed Sabriel. I bought the rest of the series, and some other books by Nix.I just finished Iron Kissed by Patricia Briggs, and I loved it. Started Hellboy: The Ice Wolves by Mark Chadbourn.
I love Iron Kissed, but then love all the books in that series.I am reading The Iron Duke and plan to move on to A Clash of Kings now that there is a release date for A Dance with Dragons
Laurel, if you haven't tried to continue in the series it's definitely worth it. I had a hard time getting into Gunslinger as well, but the rest of the series is amazing as a whole. It's definitely worth it to just move on to the second book, despite issues with the first.
Sorry, I did mean Iron Duke. Forgive my eternal confusion.MrsJoseph, I can't wait to see what you think.
I just read Leviathan and Behemoth by Scott Westerfield, and loved them -- just a shame the story is clearly not yet finished! Now reading Best Served Cold; I'm halfway through that and loving it.
After that, I think I'll give A Game Of Thrones another try. I found it hard going last time.
For some reason I decided to read The Belgariad series by David Eddings. I've finished Pawn of Prophecy and Queen of Sorcery. I just started on Magician's Gambit today. I read a couple of really horrible PNR's this weekend.
MrsJoseph wrote: "For some reason I decided to read The Belgariad series by David Eddings. I've finished Pawn of Prophecy and Queen of Sorcery. I just started on [book:Magician's Gambit..."The followup series is just as good as the Belgariad and his Sparhawk books are great too.
I enjoyed the Belgariad a lot when I read it, the Malloreon follow-up series almost as much, but I couldn't get into the Sparhawk ones at all. Eddings' best attributes were dialog (he could have written successful sitcoms, snappy as it was), characterisation, and very identifiable character voices. Likewise sitcom characters, they are a bit exaggerated, but enjoyably so.
I enjoyed the Mallorean but not as much as the Belgariad. I'm not as big of a fan of the Sparhawk novels because I felt it was a copy of the Belgariad/Mallorean series. I *think* I have all of the first 3 books but not the second.
Just got from Audible, 4 this time because 2 of them were on special for $4.95. Great deal on audios! I'm really looking forward to listening to all these. Great books! I have to get through these thick Fantasy monthly reads. Halfway through The Blade Itself. Good story. The Idiot
Ayn Rand and the World She Made
The Elegant Universe: Superstrings, Hidden Dimensions, and the Quest for the Ultimate Theory
The Hidden Reality: Parallel Universes and the Deep Laws of the Cosmos
I'm finally starting my re-read of Name of the Wind today!!! I'm so excited. My copy of WMF is ready and waiting when I finish.. Yay :)
Finished The Blade Itself. I would highly recommend it for Fantasy fans who like a lot of action. It's a fun book, although I'm realizing that I can't take a purely good tale that doesn't bend my cracked mind, especially if it's 500-1000 pages. So...I'm laying off Fantasy for a little bit. Also finished within 24 hours, Perfume: The Story of a Murderer. Now, this is my kind of book! Recommended by my friend Sparkle, who is trying to get me to read Spinoza again. My review for Perfume is at:
http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
I'm starting Fear of Knowledge: Against Relativism and Constructivism, a monthly read at the Philosophy forum, next. It's not Spinoza, but I think I'll learn something.

She did some strange but wonderful books. Some of it is rather disturbing but it's always good. I would recommend ...all of them but Blood Child is a little strange.
