I love that my library has the eBooks of the Dresden Files books, but the wait list can be murder."

Why should there be a wait list for ebooks? You'd think that would be the advantage of borrowing ebooks from the library. Oh well. Just don't start bumping off those ahead of you. Lol.

message 5403: by Traci (new)

Traci Finally reading The Forge of Darkness. Loving it so far.

message 5404: by [deleted user] (new)

Just started Death Flu - won it in giveaways, need to review it. In between I do light fantasy reading: The Complete Chronicles of Conan. Very impressed with author's ability to create a believable world with interesting history.

Pedro António | 25 comments Just finished Winter's Heart and wow was I impressed with it. Maybe my standards were a bit low after how slow the first two thirds of The Path of Daggers but I found that Robert Jordan finally got the pacing right with this one and it was an absolute pleasure to read from start to end. You can check my full review here .

Going to read Fevre Dream next. A Song of Ice and Fire is all I've read from George R.R. Martin, and since we'll have a LONG time to wait for the next entry in the series it seems as good a time as any to check out what else he's written!
It'll probably also help in preparing myself for Crossroads of Twilight, maybe my expectations for it will be so low I'll be the one person to actually enjoy it? (wishful thinking!)

message 5406: by Traci (new)

Traci Lol. I'm hoping the same thing when I get to the later WoT books. My expectations are very low. Maybe that'll work in my favor? Plus we don't have that long wait for the next book. That's what happened with A Feast for Crows for me. Most fans of A Song of Ice and Fire hate this book, but I loved it.

I had been postponing A Feast for Crows for the longest time, until it was about a week before A Dance With Dragons was released. I knew I had to read it fast in order to start dance as soon as it was released, and knew for a fact that the vast majority of people hated it, so my expectations were really low when I started. Maybe it was that, but I absolutely loved it and actually enjoyed it quite a lot more than dance itself.

Hopefully the same will happen with Crossroads of Twilight!

That's another series that I need to get back to ... read the first two, liked them very well but just haven't gotten back to the others yet.

Too many books, not enough time!

message 5412: by Pedro (new)

Pedro António | 25 comments Just finished The Gathering Storm and wow. I'm absolutely speechless. I have no idea how hard it must've been to continue the series by picking it up at book 12, but Brandon Sanderson did an amazing job with it, possibly telling the story better than Robert Jordan himself, in my opinion. Feel free to read my full review here.

Immensely excited to start Towers of Midnight now. I might actually still be on track to start A Memory of Light on release day if I can manage to find the time to read!

message 5413: by Chris (new)

Chris West (clwest28) | 3 comments I am currently in the middle of a bunch of series. Some of which I am awaiting the next book to be released. I am awaiting The Daylight War to continue in the Demon Cycle series.
I am also looking forward to the next installment by Rowena Cory Daniells of her King Rolen's Kin series to see how the plot goes for the remaining royal family of Rolencia.
I need to continue into The Twilight Herald so I can get further in that series. As well as Dragon Rule, as I really enjoyed Knight's perspective of a series for dragons.
The series that I have currently gotten wrapped up in is The Chronicles of the Necromancer by Gail Z Martin. I seem to enjoy the story lines where the spare heir gets thrown into having to save their kingdom.

Now, if anyone has any other suggestions for series, I would greatly appreciate a message and will check them out.

message 5416: by Pedro (new)

Pedro António | 25 comments Just finished Towers of Midnight so I have finally caught up, for today anyway. (curse you Portugal and your slowness!)
I went in knowing it would most likely spend a considerable amount of time setting up for A Memory of Light and that's what I got... plus a LOT of Perrin, which felt really unnecessary as he's mostly inconsequencial in the grand scheme of things. I wasn't in love with the alternating timelines either, and while I did enjoy the book, I excepted it to be quite a bit better than it ended up being. Feel free to read my full review here.

I'll be reading A Memory of Light as soon as I can get my hands on the book, and New Spring in the meantime.

Pedro António | 25 comments Just finished New Spring and... I guess my expectations were a bit too high for what it ended up being. The concept was amazing, but not the execution.
It has some good moments, but when you get a short story's worth of content out of a novel that stands at over 400 pages... yeah. Worth it for people who absolutely need to read everything WoT, but that's about it. Feel free to read my full review here.

My copy of A Memory of Light will probably be delivered tomorrow, so I'll be dead to the world for a few days following that. Can't wait!

Speaking of A Memeory of Light, my copy from Amazon never came, even though it was said that it was delivered by Fedex yesterday when I was not home. This was the first time they used Fedex. I'm going to get a replacement, hopefully it will not happen again. I'm just glad I got a copy on Monday, which I will return next week, sine it was at full price.

The last battle is a whole chapter, which last for about 200 pages, which may be the longest chapter in history.

Pedro António | 25 comments Just finished A Memory of Light and unfortunately I can't say I particularly liked it. It felt rushed at times and overall I don't think like this is the finale such a long series deserved. Feel free to read my full review here.

Next up I'll be reading The Pear Shaped Man and Old Man's War.

Pedro António | 25 comments Scott wrote: "I just finished A Memory of Light. I thought the book in general was awesome, but I am struggling a little with the epilogue and finale ending."

That's exactly how I felt about it. The whole novel is very good and lives up to the expectations I had, but the epilogue made absolutely no sense.

Read The Pear Shaped Man and I must say George R.R. Martin definitely does creepy well. It was a really satisfying short story that'll probably make me steer clear away from cheetos or any type of snacks for a very, very long time. Feel free to check out my review here.

Also read Old Man's War and while sci-fi is generally not my cup of tea I really enjoyed all the philosophical questions the book invokes and while some minor annoyances prevent it from being amazing, it was a really good novel and I'm looking forward to reading more of the series. You can read my full review here.

Next up I'll be reading The Damnation Game because... well, because random.org said 289 and that was its number in my to read list!

Pedro António | 25 comments Finished The Damnation Game and wow, I hadn't read something this bad in a long time. It couldn't scare me so it tried to gross me out, and when that failed it just bored me - with remarkable success. You can read my full review here.

I'll be reading The Ghost Brigades as I really enjoyed Old Man's War and truly need something good to read so I can forget The Damnation Game ever existed.

Lol. That's funny.

I'm reading The Sword of Shannara, and it's taking me a while. It's hard to get into it, for some reason...

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) I'm currently reading 14 by Peter Clines... and I'm not sure what I think. It started well, but the middle's a bit slow, and I don't know how I feel about where it's heading.

Well......I was reading Among Others (not finished)

:/

I was then planning to start The Way of Shadows.

But find myself reading Philippa Ballantine's, Chasing the Bard.

It's the first book of her's that I have read, and I should have started sooner! I'm hooked.

Pedro António | 25 comments Narmin wrote: "I'm reading The Hobbit. I must be one of the few people on Earth who hasn't read this yet."

I only read it last month as well, so you're not alone in that! I truly wish I had read it as a kid. Not because I didn't enjoy it - I really did - but because it'd have kindled my interest in fantasy and reading in general much earlier.

Just finished The Ghost Brigades and wow, I'm speechless. As much as I enjoyed Old Man's War I didn't think the sequel would be this much better in every sense. I'm generally very reticent about giving 5 stars to a book but this time there really wasn't much thinking about it. Can't wait to pick up the third! Feel free to read my full review here.

I'll be reading Sharp Objects next. I really need to start trimming down my horror to read list.
