Hey, you know what my book pile looks like...

Good book.Off on a tangent, it makes me think of Glen Cook's Black Company series. Have you read it? IMO, one of the best mercenary books written and well worth the read. Especially as there are around 6 more related books after the initial series.

The Black Company , Oh my...near and dear to my soul... every time I see it mentioned I get giddy:)

Oh too funny! But I dearly agree. I have gone through so many copies of the 4 books by reading, loaning and just giving them away.
In fact, all I currently have is a very beat up hardcover omnibus of the first 3 books.
Time to search the used book shops again.

I did end up enjoying The Black Company but it did take me a while to "get into it." I almost gave up because I have a "100 page rule" but people I respect told me to keep going and I'm glad I did.

I've 3 or so SFBC omnibuses of this, started it once and could not get into it at all. I could not abide the dialogue style at the time. So many like it though, I'm planning on another try.
Is this Fantasy or Sci-Fi?

Its dark fantasy as Glen Cook I think was one of the first to write gritty dark fantasy starting with his Dread Empire in the early 70s in short stories, but the Black Company is his most famous. It had a great influence on Erikson's writing.
I love the Black Company series, especially the last book, Soldier Lives. Its so epic how he ends the series.

Dinosaurs and Time Travel :-) should be right up my street.

I've been wanting to read that series. Is it good?

Very good so far - lots of interesting characters and time travel scenarios, and an interesting ongoing arch across the books

Thanks I'll see if I can find it at my library now.

We had company (plus the Olympics are on). SO I still have lots of Kate to read!

How's that for 'Olympic?'

Fantasy Olympics? Would that be like Freestyle Prophecy? Symbolic Hurdles? Dungeoneering Relay, using The One Ring instead of a stick?

Go for the Gold! Read books/themes A, B, C, D
What country are you from/represent? Read an author from that country or a book set in that country.
Series Sprint!* You and a friend (or several friends) all read a series at the same time. First one who finishes gets a virtual cookie. ;-)

LOL. Yeah, that wouldn't be a fair race with those two.

Wow that brings back the memories - I used to watch that show.

I think the reason I waited was that the earlier story was so solid, it was hard to re-connect to the new sets of characters.
Once I got involved, it was very enjoyable. Wells has a sharp hand at keeping the action on the boil.

Too Many Curses by A Lee Martinez. Martinez writes some of the most hilarious fiction out there. He covers all genres with this one being Urban Fantasy.
Mind Storm by K M Ruiz is the Science Fiction novel I am reading as well.
I generally have 2-3 books going at once.

King seems to be going for plot over characters this time which is unusual for him but a good read so far.

I need to stop. I'm going through them too fast!"
Do it, do it, do it! Then you can just re-read them when you are ready. Aren't they fabulous?
I'm taking a break from fantasy and reading some detective fiction--Lawrence Block's Matthew Scudder series. Great characters and fast reads.
