message 369: by Debby (last edited Dec 18, 2008 03:41PM) (new)

Debby | 3804 comments My husband just bought the perfect gift for me - a 2 1/2 year old female pug. She was the runt of her litter, so she only weighs 10 lbs. She is petite and absolutely adorable. We've named her Lucy Blue. Our pug, Eddie, died 2 years ago on 12/23/06 and lately I'd been longing for another pug, but a female this time. My husband found the perfect pug for me! That's love!!

If you could give a Christmas miracle to a friend or family member, what would it be?

(I have to say, if it was in my ability, I'd heal my friend's 2 children who are both dying of a genetic disorder called MPSIII. Check out familymctravels.blogspot.com

message 370: by Petra X (new)

Petra X (petra-x) I read about your friend's family and looked up the syndrome and links. I am so sorry, it must be unimaginably difficult to live day-to-day and be positive and cheerful. I really admire your friend.

message 372: by Debby (new)

Debby | 3804 comments Petra, Thanks for your interest, kind words and for looking at Shannon's blog and web info on MPSIII. I know Matt & Shannon appreciate any and all thoughts and prayers for them and their children, Waverly & Oliver. What they are living through is really beyond anything I can imagine - knowing both of your children will die of this genetic disorder. They are so very courageous and dedicated to making the time the kids have left, the best it can be.

For anyone interested in what Petra is referring to - check out post #400 on the bottom of page 8.

Petra X (petra-x) Years ago when I did market research (into dog food), I had to visit the families twice a week for three months. One of the families had two sons, both with Duchenne's Disease, a type of muscular dystrophy that is always fatal but not usually until the mid-late teens. It doesn't affect the brain at all so the children are totally aware of their deterioration but are unable to do anything about it and the family are more and more involved in even minute care and grow closer than ever to these children. I watched one of them deteriorate to the point of view of needing a respirator and saw how the mother was always cheerful, always thinking up things to do. I really feel for your friend's family and although I cannot imagine how they feel, I do know the lengths they must go to to cope.
