I love the Mortal Insturments and Cassie Palmer as well. I just think that it's different stokes for different folks. So don't be bummed, I am sure there are many series out there you can not stand but others love them.

ஐAndreaஐ (rosesrrblue) | 707 comments Thanks Deanne, and I know your right. Still you get a connection with the books you love and it's a lil dishartening to see that other's don't enjoy them the same :)
Althought it probably wouldn't be much fun if we all had the same opinion either

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I also really like the Cassie Palmer series as well, you are not alone : )

Your right though, life would become boring if everyone saw things the same way

I'm right there with ya on this one Lady Danielle! After reading the first one I am most definitely excited for Pride Mates though. It's chillin' on my Kindle waiting for me. :D

Keep reading the Midnight Breed's. The first one was probably the slowest one, they get better as you go!

I haven't read this series, but have read different opinions about it and have come to the conclusion that Anita is more than just a little wacked out! lol!

message 57: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Only 2 books in but I love Anita.

message 58: by Davina (new)

Davina D. | 103 comments Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunter series. I personally think her writing is very poor -- not befitting an author of her calibre.

I think they are excellent.

Andrea | 69 comments Damn, think I need to seriously re-think some of the books on my 'to read' shelf!! lol
I'm currently reading the Sookie series then BDB so I might have to stay away from YA after that!
Except for the last Vampire Academy book of course! awww so sad it's ending!! :(

message 63: by *Mrs. Brightside* (last edited Jun 24, 2010 04:55PM) (new)

*Mrs. Brightside* Um, I actually liked Evermore. It was good. But Blue Moon and Shadowland.. not worth the time! I actually just skipped to the end on both books so I could rate it. lol, Im starting to think that it should be a 2 star! And I didnt really like vampire kisses or something like that.. I liked the first book, but it started getting weird and not really interesting after that(downhill). I didnt like the twilight series too except Breaking Dawn!

message 64: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Andrea, I'd match someone who feels the same as you do about a lot of the books you read. Sometimes, I'll read someone's rave and think "Did I read the same book?" It's different tastes.

Karin Elisabeth (goodreadscomkarinelisabeth) | 34 comments Sandy wrote: "I couldn't get through the first Twilight book. Read about halfway through and had no desire to continue."

It's actually almost the same for me. I forced myself to read the first book (actually I read the beginning and the end and skimmed the rest) but I wasn't getting the mood. Actually I was simply bored. I assume it's because it's a YA book and though I am adult I don't seem to young enough any longer.

message 66: by tytti (last edited Jun 25, 2010 02:54AM) (new)

tytti | 45 comments I so agree that after reading BDB everything else just seems lame, boring or downright cheap copies.
I've been trying to read Pleasure Unbound Demonica book 1 but it's soooooooo weird. All these demons,half-demons, vampires, humans... Maybe I'm too judgemental, but I'm pretty sure I'm not going to buy the next one.

exactly and not everyone can like the same books it's all a matter of opinions. Me myself and the kid at heart that I am I love the YA series they're entertaining for me. I did enjoy the HON series but it's gets a little annoying, though I do keep reading them and own all of them. I love Mortal Instruments, and Vampire academy, though I haven't finished the Vampire Diaries yet, but will one day. it's just hasn't made it's way on the top of the TBR pile.

I also enjoy adult series for their own reasons. Sure I love the BDB series of course I do. But I also like the dark hunter's series, the demonica series, the lords of the underworld series. I enjoy them all for what they bring I am not judgemental on any series because it doesn't compare to the other series or what have you. I take what each author brings but this is just me. I enjoy the different aspects and worlds every book brings me.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments Yeah everyone likes different things, like someone said, it is what makes life interesting.

I also like lots of series for their own reasons, but I am a bit more judgemental then you Samantha! I do compare them and figure what I liked about one series and not another and what did what aspect best, I mean as original as some PNR is, there is always going to be an overlap of ideas.

message 69: by AH (new)

AH | 123 comments I read the House of Night series up to the latest book Burned. That's it, I am done with that series. Burned by Burned. And the sad part is that had Stevie Rae's story been earlier in the series, it might have been better.

The other series that I have stopped reading is Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I stopped after book 6. And the sad part is that I liked the first 5 books. Book 6 was just too repetitive for me.

message 70: by Tiny (new)

Tiny ♥Hearts (tinyhearts) I'm reading the Blue bloods series and the last book of immortal series oh gawd! When is it going to stop haha! I am holding on to a tiny thread trying to get through these books it's so blah Ima bout to scream, but my serious case of OCD can't seem to put them down because I have to finish the series grrr!

HAH funny u guys should say that! It's true once you go BDB you can't seem to go back to anything else. there seems to be no other book that gives me satisfaction anymore haha! Unless its a BDB book lol

message 71: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (mrsworldwidewebb) Isn't it funny how everyone has different opinions?? I always like to think.... WOW... People are different.. Anyway, I liked HON UNTIL the last book.. LOL I do not have to have "sex", in fact my imagination is better than an author's any day!! (guess I am old school) BUT if HON does not get better I will never read again.. This last book TURNED me off.. LOL I also had to put down down some of the first person books.. I don't like them as much.. The only ones I enjoyed in first person was Jeanine Frost.. LOL Anyway there is my *two cents* for what it was worth. LOL

I understand about Anita Blake but I read them all and there were some that were truly difficult to get through but I still read them. I took like a year break from her and I just picked up Skin Trade and I really liked, I found it very much like her early Anita Blake.
I still have not read Burned, I will read it its just that the HON series was not so good from me so I will get to it when I get to it, it could be years.LOL

Burned by Burned - I love that! I feel the same way!

message 75: by Tracy (new)

Tracy | 24 comments For me it's Christine Feehan's "Dark Series". I just couldn't stand the overbearing males and the weak whiny females. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a "Alpha Male" types; however, the Carpathians were just too over the top for me.

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments Tracy, I agree! I couldn't get through book 1. My g/f gave me the whole set to read and did nothing but rave about them. I hated to give them back a week later saying I couldn't get in to them.

Ok, I agree with the Anita Blake remark. I think that I actually made it to book 7, but after that, it was a novella's worth of story--and I think I'm being extremely generous with that estimate--and the rest is just filler for the erotica that she wants to write. And I mourn for those early works because, well, lets face it LKH is one of the best PN/UF writers out there, but she's just stopped writing that for the erotica.

And I find that I do compare books to the BDB--mostly going, "Well, that's not a good book, but it sure is miles BETTER than BDB"

message 78: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Lol Ann about BDB. I enjoy her story but have issues with Ward's writing.

Yes there are going to be an overlap in Ideas. And to each and every series everyone will have their own opinions on everything they read, it's the great thing that makes us human. :)

Yeah I keep hearing that Burned is not great! But like the rest of you, my OCD on books is telling me I gotta read it. But if it's as bad as you all say it is it will probably sit in my bookcase collecting dust for the rest of it's life or until I go donate it or something.

we all have series OCD. We can't not finish a series.

message 83: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Harris | 77 comments It is taking all of my strength to finish book 1 of the Dresden Files. I liked the book for about a hundred pages, then it just got stale. Is there any reason for me to read book 2?

Twilight isn't a great series. The last book ruins it. The ending was so disappointing to me that it took away from the whole series.

message 84: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) | 157 comments i love the first three twilight books but the last one...omg. wht did she do to the series. they were sooo many things in there so completely screwed up! the only part i liked was the beginning to the honeymoon...such much of the rest did not make sense. not looking forward to the breaking dawn movie except maybe the first half.

For me, the Dresden Files is one of the BEST series out there, but I guess it's just like everything in the world, might not be for everyone.

Martina the Book Fairy (book_fairy) | 442 comments I've read almost everything mentioned so far on this thread, and while I must admit that some are below average, the only thing I found so terrible that I stopped reading it is Minion, the first book of the Vampire Huntress Novels by L.A. Banks.

Minion (Vampire Huntress Legend, #1) by L.A. Banks

The premise of her entire world, not to mention the language drove me absolutely batty. I quit about 50 pages from the end. Ugh!

message 89: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh lord, I forgot all about that series! I never finished the first one either, no one was likable, and the language was awful! Never tried anything else by that author, because I was so put of by Minion.

message 90: by Ann aka Iftcan (new)

Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) | 2659 comments Mod
Lisa--Storm Front has a double problem with it. Its not only the first book in a series--which is ALWAYS slow, plodding and repetative, its also the very first novel that Butcher sold. The stories get better and better as you go along--and as HE went along, learning more and getting stronger in his craft.

Now, having said that--I will admit to having re-read every single one of the Dresden Files books EXCEPT for that first one. I went to the next book simply because I found the IDEA worth giving him a second chance.

message 91: by ~~*Julie (new)

~~*Julie Kawalec-pearson (jewel77) | 66 comments I too had a problem finishing stormfront. I keep hearing great things about the series and i absolutely loved a short story about harry --- so i can't decide if I want to continue the series.....

message 92: by Brindle (new)

Brindle Chase (brindle_chase) | 10 comments So many of my favorite series are listed here. *lol* I don't hate any of them. There are some I liked more than others of course, and a few that just didn't grab me, but I though they were pretty good.

Of all the series listed here, I guess my least favorite would be the Twilight series. I only got through the 1st book. Unlike most reviews I've read, I thought the movie was better than the book. But they were both nicely done. The story just didn't fit me, but then again, I'm about as far from the intended demographic as you can get, so it's to be expected. *lol*

I heard the Anita Blake series took a real "turn" after the 5th or 6th book. Wonder why she did that? Everyone pretty much liked the first ones and afterwards, like you said they turned into more erotica than story.
