K. (maddywoo) | 24 comments I can't choose one at the moment but in your opinion and experience what was a series you've read that made you wanna cringe?

Edit: I can think of a book. That is Dead Until Dark. The book was probably the most boring I have ever read..there were unnecessary fillers and the story dragged and so much other stuff. I gave it a pass because it was only the first book.

Cona Hartwig | 49 comments I just finished the book "The Forest of Hands and Teeth" by Carrie Ryan and it was too weird~!

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 173 comments I only made it through the first book of Amanda Ashley's "Night (whatever)" series. I just could NOT get into her reading. It's like reading a kindergarten PNR book. Bleh. Maybe it gets better after the first book but...meh.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I have tried Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr and I just couldn't get into it, I tried up until about page 100 so I gave it a fair shot, but I just didn't like it.

message 5: by Pam G (new)

Pam G (pgarey) I couldn't get into Alexandra Ivy's Guardians of Eternity, even though I really wanted to like it. I gave up 1/2 way thru the 2nd book in the series.

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

I really didn't care for Alyson Noel's Evermore, I wasn't even tempted to read the rest of the series. It just wasn't my thing.

Everyone raves about Lara Adrian's Midnight Breeds series, but I only read about half the first book. It wasn't bad, I think my mood just wasn't there at the time.

I tried and couldn't get through that one either. My Mom LOVES it so I really have it a go but I just couldn't get into it. :(

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) | 157 comments wings by aprilyn pike...worse thing i have ever read.

Jessa ♥ EvilDarkSide (metalgirl80) I know I'm probably in the minority here but I couldn't finish the House of Night series. I really, really tried. I even got to Book 3 but I just couldn't go any further. It's kind of hard to enjoy a series when you can't stand the female lead character. *shrugs*

message 10: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 453 comments Off the top of my head

For YA's: Rachel Caine's Morganville Vampires series. It was sooooo freaking boring. I gave up after the 2nd book made me comatose.

For PNR's: Anything by Jade Lee. She is freaking psycho & her plots? I could go on for days on how FUBAR they are.

**Danielle** Kindle Lover (smithson) | 3 comments I would have to say The Cassie Palmer Series by Karen Chance. She fustrates me to the point of throwing the book across the room.

message 12: by Heather (new)

Heather (sparkleyturtle) | 151 comments For me, it was the City of Bones series. Finished the first one, but I can't bring myself to go further.

message 13: by Phoenix (new)

Phoenix (phoenixapb) | 16 comments I couldn't stand Yasmine Galenorn's Sisters of the Moon series...I didn't even make it past the first few chapters of the first book. Although I must say it did temporarily cure my insomnia, I went from not being able to sleep at all to a complete narcoleptic state everytime I picked the book up.

Alyson Noel's Evermore I hated with unreasoning intensity...the book made me want to be violent I hated it that much. It was so bad I felt like my mind had been violated.

Malissa De La Cruz's Blue Blood series....I'm not even sure what exactly to say about this series except that if you're a fashion snob and enjoy reading waaay too many details and not enough story, go for it...I really tried to finish this series but I quit out of sheer frustration and disgust halfway through book four and I don't care if I ever finish it.

And last but not least Rachel Vincent's Shifter series. I liked the story line a lot, which is why I finished the series, but the lead female character made me want to rip her out of the book and smack her twice daily just for good measure.

see I liked the first two of the wicked lovely series, but I just got done reading Fragile Eternity, and I don't think I liked it as much. I will read the next book in the series just to see if it gets better, but if it doesn't and there are more to the series, I think I will call it quits on this series.

Haha, I dropped this series after the first book. XD Not worth my time or patience.

Oh and I can't stand the Wicked Lovely books either. There's something so superficial and fake about all the characters. At one point or another, I've hated every single character. And if I can't love the characters, what's there to enjoy?

message 16: by Deanne (new)

Deanne | 209 comments Vampire Kisses I thought they were the horrible!!!
As well as Vampire Diaries the first book was ok but it went downhill from there.

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments The Vampire Diaries I would have to say is the worst series I've read followed by the House of Night. I read all the the VD's except for the last book. I just can't bring myself to pick it up. As for the HON books, I forced myself to read them and I have to say I cannot stand Zoey or Stevie Ray and I find myself rooting for the bad guys LOL.

message 18: by K. (new)

K. (maddywoo) | 24 comments I've heard nothing but bad things about the HON series. I decided I will not read them because I'm not even clear on what it's about. Plus I'm a little past YA romance novels.

message 19: by Sandy (new)

Sandy | 449 comments I couldn't get through the first Twilight book. Read about halfway through and had no desire to continue.

message 20: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) | 157 comments the vampire diaries...one of the worst books ive ever read. they r soooo boring. when people say that TVD is better than twilight and lots of other YA series im like wht the hell were u reading, it must of not been TVD. and the return series is worst the orignal.

also...evermore was really good but the 2-3 were really bad. ill go check out the fourth but not anytime soon. if this book isnt as good as the first i dont think i will continue wit the series.

completely agree wit you. HON is dragging on. i really liked it when i started reading it...but i think that right now random and pointless things r going on and i hate some of the POV there r doing.

TVD boring crap ive ever read.

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I am glad I am not the only one who didn't like Wicked Lovely, I think I am like you Kristin YA romance novels just annoy me or I find them completely boring. I gave up on the Vampire Diaries when one of the vampire characters got all weepy about killing a rabbit or something right at the beginning. I mean I don't like the though of dead animals and I am not a sadist or anything I was just thinking You're a vampire for gods sake, man up! But then I had just finished reading the BDB books so everyone looked wimpy in comparison!

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments I gave up on the VD's when it was announced vampires don't have sex. Really? Lame.
The only YA series I think I enjoyed was the Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead.

message 24: by K. (new)

K. (maddywoo) | 24 comments HAHA! You know, that might be it for us. The BDB series spoiled me to death, after I hooked up with that I knew better than to pick up another YA romance novel cause I knew I wouldn't be satisfied ever again.

hahaha. i knoe. i was like WTF? vampires dont have sex?? theres something very wrong wit that!

vampire academy is amazing though! loved it!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I never even got that far with VD's to know about the no sex thing, I am glad now that I didn't continue!

BDB does spoil you with all that manly goodness (ummm Wrath) I find after I read them everything else pales in comparison!

So yes, 2 mins silence for the death of YA romance in my bookshelf LOL

message 27: by Laura (new)

Laura House of Night is by far my least favorite series, although I have read them all and will likely read the rest until the series is done. Even though the books annoy me, I feel like I have to finish the series. Most of the time I just want to strangle the characters.

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments Yea, totally spoiled by the BDB and the wonderful loving that comes with it! ;) I have no patience for no-sex-having-vampires when they are in fact the epitome of sex and beauty and all that is good and bad at the same time! Thank God the VD TV series doesn't follow the books on the no sex aspect. ;)

You have no idea how happy I am to hear that. Here I thought I was only one who had zero tolerance for no sex having amongst supes!!! Especially vampires, that's like a broken commandment!!

message 32: by Kelleigh (new)

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) Malissa De La Cruz's Blue Blood series - Horrible!

Laurie (barksbooks) (barklesswagmore) I second Yasmine Galenorn's Sisters of the Moon series. Very unlikable and annoying characters

But these two YA paranormals were insufferable. Tantalize (Tantalize, #1) by Cynthia Leitich Smith Eternal by Cynthia Leitich Smith

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 461 comments I didn't care for The Immortals series. The first book by Jennifer Ashley was okay. I did not like the second book by Robin T. Popp. Too much focus on witchcraft and paganism and invoking the God and Goddess through sex. I decided this series is not for me, although I want to read Tain's book just to see what happens with him.

message 35: by Regina (last edited Jun 24, 2010 07:33AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) I am pretty over YA too. If I find out something is YA (unless it is exceptional) then I take it off my TR shelf.

I have to say the worst is Once Bitten by Kalayna Price. I couldn't get past the first 50 or so pages and I felt horrible b/c I won the second one from librarything.com as an early review. Oh well. HOrribly written, unlikeable heroine, stupid choices and events happening.

There are two series that I won't continue on. First, this series is so ridiculously formulaic (even though I liked the initial ones) and that is the Breed series by Adrian. I enjoyed the first 4. Barely could finish the fifth. There are no surprises, the plot and world building is completely secondary to the romance but the romance follows a formula that is the exact same in each book. So by book 5 I couldn't take it anymore.

Second, is the Riley Jensen series. I am stopping this for a different reason. I enjoyed Full Moon Rising (Riley Jenson Guardian, #1) by Keri Arthur and I even enjoyed the second one Kissing Sin (Riley Jenson Guardian, #2) by Keri Arthur , I like the world building, the writing and the mystery. I like the characters -- and the heroine. I don't need an HEA and I am not bothered at all by promiscuity (no moral issue with me at all). But I find the sex actually boring and not interesing and improbable. I have put this in several places on GR, but there is a series of scenes in Kissing Sin where Riley (the heroine) has sex with 4 different partners over a period of about 6 hours and one of the partners she has is behind the back of a guy who loves her (Quinn) and is a semi-betrayal of him since THEY ARE AT A PARTY TOGETHER!! I actually would have accepted 2 partners in a 6 hour period or 4 partners all at once, lol, but 4 different partners (2 werewolves, 1 horse shifter (!!), and a vamp with whom she gives blood -- shouldn't she be tired?) in such a short period of time I think is laughable and ridiculous. And she is on a quasi-governmental mission to find bad doers. And one of the sexscapades lasts over 2 hours. I was seriously laughing out loud and had to tell my husband. It just broke the spell for me. I am not looking for reality, obviously -- but somethings are beyond acceptance. I am sad b/c I actually wonder what is going to happen regarding the mystery they are trying to solve and then I feel bad for the betrayed vamp Quinn. I *may* read this down the road after I have had a break. So this seris is in a different category of the two above.

Lacy♪ ♫Movements of a Demigod ♪ ♫ (lb3553) | 238 comments I wasn't fond of the Children of the Goddess Series by RG Alexander. Regina in the Sun (Children of the Goddess, #1) by R.G. Alexander This book was just too much like porn for my taste. It was all sex and no substance.

message 37: by Michelle (new)

Michelle (fireweaver) Jessa, you are clearly not alone here - the house of night books started off weak and got worse as they wore on. Laura, let us all give you permission to stop reading them. the heroine is an idiot, the best teacher evar/evil priestess is infinitely more interesting, and those books are shockingly sex-negative (every chick that so much as thinks about sex is branded 'a slut' for the rest of the series). also, glamorous tulsa?? nope.

vampire diaries is easily the worst, though. it was a challenge to limp through that first book (well, actually, i guess it was the first 2, bound in one book). it got interesting literally in the last chapter, but meh.

message 38: by Mairead (new)

Mairead | 164 comments The only HON books could stand was the second one, and that's because of Heath. I stopped after 4, and I'm not going back. Zoey is just one of those Characters I would never tire of hitting in the face with a sledgehammer. the reasons are threefold:
1) she thinks she's better than everyone. She's not.
2) She's a whiny whiny whiny whiny Biatch!
3) Every male she encounters falls instantly in love with her, which is stupid since she's such a strap/wagon!

I have lots more reasons, but Isn't that reason enough to hate her?
I really don't like Sookie Stackhouse. I drags on forever, and nothing happens. The only character I like is Eric, and I can just watch the TV (which is infintely better) for him!

Done and Done.

message 39: by Kelleigh (new)

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) What do you mean when you say HON books?

*Read again*

Also, Luce in Fallen gets on my nerves. Once again, Cam is the only great Character. He's awesome, and Daniel is just such a drip. Maybe the sequel will be better, but honestly, it couldn't get any worse.
Why are female protags so irritating? The only one I've loved Is Rose Hathaway, and when she screwed with Adrian's feelings in Blood promise? Not so much love for her!

message 41: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I don't think the problem is female protaganists, but the authors. :) In my opinion there is such a huge explosion of UF and PNR books -- I am guessing many people just want to throw there hat in the arena. I personally prefer female heroines, and books written by women.

Fani *loves angst* (fanip) Mairead wrote: "Also, Luce in Fallen gets on my nerves. Once again, Cam is the only great Character. He's awesome, and Daniel is just such a drip. Maybe the sequel will be better, but honestly, it couldn't get any worse.

I agree so much! I kept wishing Luce would end up with Cam, instead of boring Daniel who did nothing except being pretty. And Luce annoyed me so much; she didn't do anything in the entire book.

message 43: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'll third Yasmine Galenorn and I'll second Amanda Ashley. I've only read one book from each but didn't care for either of them. I didn't like Cheyenne McCray too.

message 46: by Anna (new)

Anna (annab1984) | 44 comments I haven't come across an adult series yet that didn't have some redeeming quailites, but Vampire Kisses is ridiculous. The first book is awful, and it just gets worse. On the other hand, it is totally appropriate for the entire young adult spectrum, so I'd recommend it for 11 to 14 year olds. Also, I don't know that I really gave Vampire Diaries a fair shot, but I read the first one, and it just didn't grab me.
