message 301: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Thanks for all the info Regina! My hubby just got me a kindle and I wasn't sure how I was going to manage everything. I usually borrow books from the library, but it can become a burden. I don't mind buying some books that I really like (usually in paperback), but I never pay full price. This will help with the financial burden, as the cost kindle books (even at paperback prices) can add up.

One more question, what about documents emailed to your kindle? Are those considered hard loaded? Do those stay on the kindle when you deregister, or do they disappear and reappear?

message 302: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) The only things that disappear and reappear are the folders/collections. Any books or documents not in a folder/collection doesnt disappear and reappear. But it is really a non-problem bc as soon as you re register to your account the collections/folders come back. So nothing is lost!

message 303: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) Regina sounds like a kindle expert, you should go work for them LOL

message 304: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Lol!!! It all sounds much harder than it is. It is actually simple, I do it multiple times a week. :) I think I may have explained it poorly.

Anyway did I mention how much I LOVE amazon?

message 305: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) haha. AMAZON ROCKS! =D

message 306: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Thanks again!

message 307: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I hope it helps. :)

Kel (Faerie-bookworm) (faerie-bookworm) | 38 comments The only thing I don't like about the Kindle so far is that I can't use it to borrow books from the library. I got a Pandigital for Xmas and I LOVE it.

message 309: by Jerry (new)

Jerry (jersysman) | 2 comments I just want to say that I have a Nook Color and I love it!! I am learning more and more about it. Not only is it a good eReader, but it can also become a very decent tablet and able to run most of the Android Apps that are out there.

message 310: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Owning a Kindle could get really expensive, especially since I can get books for less using coupons. Does anyone know if it's possible to get coupons to buy kindle edition books? If so, how and where?

Christen (GoldiloxReads) | 78 comments I don't know about coupons, but they have specials just like anything else. Foe example, I found How To Marry a Millionaire Vampire (Love at Stake, #1) by Kerrelyn Sparks for free for my Kindle and I found Richelle Mead Dark Swan Bundle Iron Crowned, Storm Born, & Thorn Queen by Richelle Mead for 9.99. I have also downloaded a bunch of 99 cent books as well.

message 313: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Theresa, try the account sharing from above. Also, the free classics and checking out inkmesh.com and ereaderiq.com for freebies. I also check out kobo, sony and B&N (through inkmesh.com) for freebies. Those freebies often don't have DRM, so I am able to use Calibre to convert it to read on my Kindle.

As far as coupons, I have friends who do swagbucks -- and you can earn Amazon gift certificates.

And of course you can still check out books from the library. :) I go back and forth between that.

Where did you find "How to Marry a Vampire Millionaire" for free?? I would love to get this book for my Kindle.

message 315: by AH (new)

AH Cindi, all the booksellers post ebook freebies. Some last an hour, some last a day, some last a week. Check out Borders, Kobo, Amazon, Sony and B&N for their freebies.

message 316: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) I have been trying to keep track of Amazon's freebies, but the problem is there are specific books I want to read. I have had a couple of friends share books that I don't mind reading, but are not on my original TBR. I have also been keeping track of free kindle books on www.ereaderiq.com and have selected a few free books, but still none are on my TBR. I have added some books to my TBR because friends shared them with me. Anyway, I will start checking out free books for the other ereaders as well. Thanks for the tips everyone?

BTW, what is swaybacks and how do you "earn" Amazon gift certificates?

I thought library epub books were not DRM-free, thus not convertible to mobi format.

message 318: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Woohoo! Amazon launching library book lending for kindles! That was the only thing lacking from kindle. I hope it doesn't take them too long to get a good selection of books for the library.

message 319: by Regina (last edited Apr 20, 2011 09:13AM) (new)

Regina (reginar) @ Theersa, sorry I miss typed -- swagbucks -- it is a website/program if you google it you can find the info. I can't access the website from work, so I can't link to it. Sorry!

@ Theresa -- I meant you can check out paper/old fashioned books from the library, lol. :)

I just came here to post the new announcement! Great news, I am very excited about the lending and the teaming up with overdrive. :)

ETA: nope I didn't mistype (just checked), but lol -- swagbucks is a weird word isn't it? :) I have not done it but know several friends that routinely do it.

message 320: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) I'm really excited about kindle on overdrive. Before I got my kindle, I was researching and found that people were speculating that Amazon would eventually jump on the library book band wagon, but I didn't expect it to be this soon. This is a great move, because more people will buy kindle, and because of the way Amazon is offering the library books, people have the option to buy a book after they've read it. I know that sounds silly, but that's usually how I decide to buy a book. I usually read series, so I check out the first book from the library and if I love it I buy the entire series. Now, if they could just make the kindle books more affordable! I usually don't spend more than $5 a book, because I buy paperback from Borders. Borders has those 33- 40% coupons and reward bucks! I wish Amazon did something like that!

message 321: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I didn't think it would happen so soon either!

message 322: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) So glad I went with the kindle. For like 5 minutes I was contemplating the nook so I could get library epubs.

Kel (Faerie-bookworm) (faerie-bookworm) | 38 comments Theresa wrote: "So glad I went with the kindle. For like 5 minutes I was contemplating the nook so I could get library epubs."

I got a Pandigital for Christmas, I wanted the Kindle but I borrow most of my book so I couldn't get Kindle. I'm so excited now, my hubby can have mine and I'll get the kindle!! YAY!! I hope it happens soon.

message 324: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) On May 3rd they're launching that kindle w/ ads. It's only $114 and it has ads on screen saver and @ bottom of home page, but it saves you $25, plus they offer you grreat deals on Amazon. That deal, on top of the library book lending is going to increase sales.

message 325: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Agreed.

message 326: by Robert (new)

Robert Clear (robertclear) | 5 comments I read that ebook sales will soon comprise 20% of the US book market, so it looks like there's plenty of hope for Kindle. Over here in the UK traditional books are still holding firm, although increasing numbers of people can be seen clutching ebook readers on trains.

message 327: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Regina, is there a way to find out if there is a limit on the number of licenses a book has? My friends and I are considering forming a group to share books, but I'm not sure if we need to limit the number of people who can participate in the sharing.

I just noticed this and I realized that my auto spell check changes swagbucks to swaybacks and I missed it. LOL! Sometimes auto spell check can be a pain.

message 329: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Hi Theresa! It is different for each book. It is on the book page - either under the title or in the details. There is a lot of discusion about this on the kindle forums on amazon. Some have unlimited licenses and others are 4 or 6. I havent seen less than 4. Also. If a kindle deregisters from an acct the book stays on the kindle but the awesome thing is that the license number rebounds back as if the book was returned.

Autocorrect can really mess stuff up!!!

message 330: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Oh, so if my friends and I are just registering and de-registering to "share" ebooks, we can do it on an unlimited number of kindles?

message 331: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) YuP. :)

message 332: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Cool! Thanks! You are a Kindle Goddess!

message 333: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) haha, nah just had one or two for awhile. good luck!

message 334: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Kindle library lending is available today! Check out your local overdrive site!

message 335: by Diane (new)

Diane | 70 comments Got a Kindle with Wi-Fi and 3G for my birthday from my Dad. I like having the choice to choose between reading paper and ebooks. But I will never ever give up my large collection of hard and paper back books for just ebooks, they each hold memories of the day I bought or got given them.
Saying that I'm going to ask for a gift card for Amazon for Christmas this year.

Thank you so much for those links!

message 337: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Enjoy!!! :)

message 338: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Did you see the announcement by Amazon today? It is becoming a sort-of lender for certain titles and only for people who own a kindle device (apps won't work for this):

The Amazon Info about it.

The Press Release.

I have paged through about 55 pages on my kindle looking for books (there are 860 pages) and I found 8 books so far I would be interested in. I am guesing the titles will change.

message 339: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) I just love Amazon! I noticed it's limited to prime members, I'm sure that will be an incentive for readers to upgrade. I hope they are books the library doesn't already loan out. Thanks for sharing!

message 340: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) There are some limitations, one book per month per acct and not all publishers are involed. I do love Amazon too. :) For me, it is an easy thing b/c we have had Prime for years so it is not an added expense at all, just a bonus. But I know for others it may be an added expense. I just order alot from amazon and we do movie and tv show streaming from amazon.

message 341: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) Yes, prime is definitely worth it if you shop w/ Amazon a lot. Its great to have an added benefit. I totally forgot about streaming movies. We've always had netflix and just recently cancelled it. Now we can start taking advantage of this prime feature.

When I get on a computer, I will peruse the books available for this new lending fearture. I'm assuming it will be the same books that are currwntly lendable.

message 342: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Theresa, unfortunately I haven't found a way to broswe the books on the computer, only on my kindle -- the above links show how.

I do prefer what is available through Netflix, but I am guessing the Amazon selection will grow with time.

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) We've been with Netflix for almost 3 years now and have only one complaint...they need more CBS shows. We're thinking of adding Amazon Prime to suppliment Netflix and since I have my first eReader, the Kindle Fire, shipping Nov. 15th I think I may just sign up.

message 344: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) With Kindle Fire and Christmas shopping coming up you should definitely try it! I think you get a free month of Amazon Prime with the Kindle Fire I believe.

message 345: by Theresa (new)

Theresa (thesa) I just figured out that you can share books from the Kindle owner's lending library the same way you would if you purchased them!
