What is a tag?
Think of a tag as a keyword or category label. Tags can both help you find items on the Amazon site as well as provide an easy way for you to "remember" and classify items for later recall. They are essentially keywords associated with your book.
What you need to do:
Under the Product Details section of a book's Amazon page you will see "Tags customers associated with this product"
Simply agree with (click on) the tags already there or add your own. That is it, pretty simple.
You should do this for your book and every book you view on Amazon.
This is a way to advertise your book because the books with the most "tags" for certain keywords are featured throughout communitites on Amazon.

In my opinion the less frequent ones. You want your keywords or "tags" to be as focused as possible. So if your book is a family drama clearly pick that over family. This way you are targeting a more specific genre and you should also always make sure there is a tag in the form of your name. This starts an automatic community all about you! Once your book hits the big time this can really benefit you ;)

Can you help?
Gary

I posted this elsewhere, but this sems to be the more appropriate place. I tried to register to be able to tag and could not find my book. I wrote to Amazon and got this reply. Can you make sense of it for me. Thanks
Hello,
I?ve researched "From Spice to Eternity" and confirmed that it is currently only available from Marketplace sellers on our website. We do not have inventory of your title. If you would like to have your books listed on Amazon.com, please contact your publisher to ensure they offer Amazon.com as a distribution channel. As Author Central is an online feature that isn't directly related to inventory or stocking of book, we aren't able to assist with fulfilling orders for books. I'm sorry for any concerns this may cause.
If you own the rights to your books or are self-published, you may also consider enrolling your books through our Advantage program:
http://advantage.amazon.com/gp/vendor...
Thank you again for contacting Author Central.
Did I solve your problem?

If your publisher will not list your book on Amazon ( or you are self-published) you can list your book through the Amazon Marketplace they make available.
Check out how to do this at this link:

Below is also some information on how to sell signed copies of your book via this channel.
----------------SELL A SIGNED COPY OF YOUR BOOK ON AMAZON-----------------
Differentiating yourself on Amazon can be a daunting task. But here is a way for you to separate yourself from the pack. You can personally sell a signed copy of your book via Amazon. Amazon makes it simple and efficient for users like you to offer products you may have strait from you doorstep.
At this time I would like for you to consider this option, and below I will explain to you in detail how to go about this. The benefit of having as signed version of your book on Amazon is that you can personally connect with you readers and you can also offer your book at a price for less than what Amazon offers. This could be a great way to boost your sales, providing there is a demand for your work. If you feel Amazon offers your book at an unreasonably high price you can, through Amazon’s Marketplace, list and sell YOUR book for a fraction of the cost. Of course you want to make a profit as well so I would not suggest selling your book for nothing but you can significantly reduce the price. Or if you feel a signed copy is more valuable you can raise the price. It is all up to you. Just make note Amazon will take a percentage of whatever profit you make.
Below is a complete set of instructions on how to go about listing your book on Amazon as well as notable information I have deemed relevant.
First you need to login in to Amazon and go directly to your book’s Amazon page.
On the right hand side of the screen under the Add to Cart and Add to Wish list button you will see a box that says: Have one to sell? Sell yours here. Click this button.
You will brought to a page where you must select the condition of the book, for most of you it should be NEW and then you will be asked to make a Condition Note. Here is where you want to say something along the lines of – This is a signed copy of the book provided by the author. You have up to 2000 characters so you can make this as long or short as you want
Next you will be asked to pick a price for what you want to sell this for. You can go higher or lower than what Amazon asks for but remember they will take a portion of your profits. You will also be asked how many copies you have- I suggest having 5 signed copies on hand.
Please note you will have to cover all shipping costs but Amazon will re-reimburse you for this. You will be prompted to select all shipping avenues you will provide shipping for.
You must have a credit card in order to do this as Amazon will need this as sort of an “insurance policy” to make sure everything is always covered.
To see a list of all fees Amazon will charge please visit http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custome.... I do not have any control over this, if you want to get a copy of your book online in this way you must deal with Amazon directly.
Now once you enter your credit card information and a permanent address continue to follow the steps. Amazon will ask for a number where they can call you to verify all of this activity. It is easiest to just give them your cell number. You will immediately be called by an automated phone service asking for a pin number which Amazon will provide to you on your screen. Enter this and you are done.
To manage your items when you login you will see a YOUR ACCOUNT button in blue on the top left hand screen, right above where you go to view your profile. Click this. Then on the next page on the right hand screen you will see YOUR OTHER ACCOUNTS and below this will be YOUR SELLER ACCOUNT. Click YOUR SELLER ACOUNT and this is where you can check up/alter prices, inventory, etc.
To see an example of this please visit http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listin...
Here you can see 14 different people offer new versions of the book for sale in the marketplace. The book I listed is under Strategic Book Group. Yours will be similar.

I was going to reply and when I signed in here, I see that you have been helped. I might add that there are people on Amazon selling the books I have written as well and many other authors and most likely they haven't and can't write a book of their own. They advertise many author's books and don't bother to buy one until they sell it as used and then they quickly buy one to resell. You won't have any trouble getting your book listed. You can also list your books with their Kindle program and that is as simple as 1-2-3. I don't really care for Kindle, but I listed O'Bannon Castle the day before yesterday just for a sales test, and it is free to do so and all you have to do is follow the simple directions and it is on. You can see my book which has only been on Kindle for a day or so. By going to Amazon and pulling down the tab for Kindle and then typing in the title in the second blank. All the rest of my books are paperback and go back thirty years.
Good luck Dr Robert E McGinnis

I believe you will find that you Social S number is your tax ID in your case.

Hey everyone! This is Kait the creator of this group discussion. I am so glad to see everyone's continued use of this forum as I truly wanted to help provide authors with a "go to" community where they can discuss their book(s) and all things Amazon freely. I have often found that the Amazon Discussion Boards can be a not so friendly place and unfortunately many authors fall victim to "cyber-bulling". None of that here!
For the last few weeks I was attending the Taipei International Book Fair in Taiwan and let me tell you the desire to distribute foreign books into the U.S (as well as bring American "English" books into their region) is HUGE! It is all very exciting. One thing I noted which I felt everyone should know is that Amazon is the go to site for Foreign Rights buyers! Yup you heard me. Basically foreign publishing companies are realizing the value of Amazon and how it can essentially be used as a search engine when looking for new titles for rights purchasing. Having an amazon presence is more crucial now than ever as the site will only grow in the proceeding month/years in popularity.
That being said I wanted to let you all know I have created a blog to which I will be making 2 new posts a week all relating to Amazon. This blog will cover marketing tips, facts, and general information about Amazon. My aim is to help educate authors on using Amazon as this site should be treated by an author just as you would Facebook or Twitter. Social Media baby! ITS HERE TO STAY! Below is the link to my new blog! Hope you enjoy it and please feel free to leave comments!
