The kinds of problems you have described were happening before that update, but now don't happen that I have seen. If you have the update already (with the web browser, games, and wifi buttons added), can you just plug in your nook when the battery gets low? I think you can actually still read while it is charging. It doesn't have to be off.

The bizzare thing is I did have the update but each time this happened it was like the update never occured at all. The version was back to 1.2 and I had to update it again
UPDATE * I brought it in and they said that it was a problem with the case I purchased and they said that the magnet was messing with the nook. The thing that seems sketchy is that half their cases have magnets so why would they manufacture an accessory for a product when it's known to cause problems....So 50$ later on a new case, they said if the problem persists that ill be supplied with a new unit. so well see......
Hmmm. Very interesting. Haven't heard that one before. The cases LOOK great though. Which one did you have? Was it the Hutton envelope one or the Easel?
I just got my nook. I haven't had the issue that you're having, but I'm having an issue with losing my internet connectivity while I'm browsing for new books. We have wireless internet at our house and I'm wondering if that's the issue. I says "Loading..." for like 5 minutes then, it says "Network Unavailable". It's really annoying!

Brittany, have you checked to see similar problems on the B&N message boards for the nook on the B&N site? Lots of people have the problem with the nook freezing when the battery gets really low, but I haven't seen the issue of the pictures, music and contacts being gone. But definitely check in with the "gurus" on the board, who seem to know much more about the technical stuff that the actual B&N personnel!
When I was talking to both CS and the manager in the store about my router which with the laptop I have full signal and when I try to connect with the nook the signal is all over the place they both told me with wifi which is what you are using that happens. It gets knocked around with people in the area with cell phones, or on their computers they don't even have to have the same company as you do. It sounded strange. One told me that if I hook it up though the computer when I'm home I will have a full signal then. The other CS guy said that if it bothers me too much to turn off the wifi and just go though AT&T which is in the area but then I wouldn't be able to go on internet. The manager said he wouldn't switch he would just deal with it and as I mentioned earlier hook though computer. I realized one thing the two people I talked to didn't seem to agree with what the other told me. Me I felt better seeing a person and talking f2f then talking over the phone to CS. I bought mine on tuesday and wednesday it froze. I was told both ways but the holding power button down for a few minutes then back on and whatever else seemed to work. The manager said the other with the battery is what he would do if the holding the power button didn't work.
