Can I suggest the word "hex" for the letter X?

Question - can the word be in the subtitle/series name? For example will work for light since its A Novel of the Light Dragons?

Diane You can use hex for x. I was just going to say if the word has an x in the title than you can use it. Ex. eXTRA, EXPERIMENT. etc.
As for the other questions. The word should be in the title, so if it says Light Dragon Novel somewhere on the cover than you can use it.

Oh, you're killing me Jael. :) I so want to do this one, and I had so much fun putting together my list--that's my fave part of the challenges--but I'm not a huge PNR reader and there's a bunch of words on the list that I can't find anything but PNR or regular romance books to fit: charm, desire, embrace, passion, thirst & untamed.

I like Nalini Singh's psy-changeling series and she has a book coming out this year that fits "passion", and I have been wanting to try Larissa Ione's Demonica series & the 2nd book fits for "desire" but I can only take PNR in small doses & I'm really picky about it. So sadly, I'm out. Sorry! :(

No, it's not that, pretty much everything I read is paranormal, just not paranormal romance. I read a lot of UF, YA fantasy & straight fantasy, and I like a bit of romance in my books, but I'm really picky when it comes to Paranormal Romance, I like my romance more when it builds over time--otherwise known as sexual tension--like in UF series. I'm a glutton for punishment. :)

And I'm doing eight of your other challenges, so don't worry about me. ;)

There is a book called the The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection From the Living Dead for anyone needing help with that title/word. I mention it only because I plan on getting it one day. It sounds funny and gives you good advice on how to defend yourself against hordes!

Steph: I have World War Z. I like the style of writing. I read it off and on because its like reading non-fic. The flow is rich and condensed but I like the stories each character tells.

I liked this too, but you're right Kenjii, it would have been good to read it on & off because it does read like non-fic. But good non-fic--I loved how he brought current events into it and made it really feel like it was something that could happen.

Another funny zombie book is Zombie Haiku: Good Poetry for Your...brains. Some of them are hilarious. Here's a couple of my faves:

blood is really warm
it's like drinking hot chocolate
but with more screaming

biting into heads
is much harder than it looks.
the skull is feisty

It it wrong that my 10 year old son loves this book? We're weirdos.

Well, on goodreads, of course. :) He wanted to bring it to school one day and I was like, hmmm...I don't think that's a very good idea....

AH, how old are your boys? Mine is a very reluctant reader, so if he wants to read about zombies eating brains, well then, knock yourself out. I choose to focus on the "wants to read" part. :)

Right now he's liking the Choose Your Own Adventure books (when I force him to sit down & read.) We found them the last time we were at B&N and I got so excited--I remember them from when I was a kid back in the olden days. :)

He read The Capture for a book report last month and seemed to like it. We bought the next 2 in the series, talk to me at the end of the summer to see if I chained him down to read them.

My 10 year old is loving the Maximum Ride series. I started him with the graphic novel and he is on the 4th book now. Something to be said about short 3-5 page chapters. He is very excited to say that he read 19 chapters in 1 day.

Totally. When mine started the Guardians of Ga'Hoole book, he first checked how many chapters. Then he looked to see how many pages per chapter and then proceeded to start complaining about how long the chapters were. I'm going to have the check out Maximum Ride. :)

What's choose your own adventure book?

They're those books where the character will have a choice, but you get to make the choice. At the bottom of the page, it will give you 2 options, here's an example:

If you open the car hold door and try to salvage the gold, turn to page 41.

If you continue up the stairs to the well deck to find Jessica and see what's happening up there, turn to page 46.

There are tons of different endings, so when you make a wrong choice and get a "The End", you can go back and make different choices.

They're simple books, but we're taking baby steps. He will be a reader, damnit. :)

Start him off on Maximum Ride, it's the graphic novel. That caught my son's interest. It was available on Scholastic books at school. (Do you have that in the US?). Better get back on the subject of this thread....Maybe I'll try it.
