What are you reading in June 2010?
I'm currently working my way through The Curse of the Mistwraith to prepare for the book for this months read, and have House of Chains and Midnight Tides checked out from the library.
I need to finish The Curse of the Mistwraith to get to The Ships of Merior and then I'm really looking forward to reading the new author pick of The Second Coming. I would also like to read the 3rd book of Greg Keyes series: The Blood Knight.

What a weird book....
I read Under Heaven almost as soon as it was released and absolutely loved it. Right now I am reading a non-fantasy book, Infidel.
Currently I'm working on Acacia: The War with the Mein, so far so good! After that I plan on trying out some Janny Wurts, either The Curse of the Mistwraith or Daughter of the Empire (since I like Feist as well). Unless someone has a better starter for her to recommend! I'm open to suggestion.
Under Heaven is magnificent. I have a few stories left in Warriors, most notably the one by George R. R. Martin, which I've saved for last. Most of the stories are quite good.
I'm also (slowly and savouring every story) working my way through Songs of a Dead Dreamer. It is glorious, of course, but I would have expected no less.
When those are done, it is time to finally read Kraken, one of my most anticipated reads this year.
My wish list is:Under Heaven
Boneshaker
We Have Always Lived in the Castle
The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie
The House on Mango Street
Will start The Shadow Rising-Wheel of Time book 4 (Robert Jordan), followed by Guard!Guard! (Terry Pratchett).
Just finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. Somewhat predictable to me as a lifelong reader on American folklore, and the story is stretched over a long summer - unnecessarily I felt - but still a good read.
Under HeavenThe Ships of Merior
The Second Coming
Septem Sermones ad Mortuos
The Charnel Prince
and if there is time
Next
The Red Wolf Conspiracy
Has anyone read the Red Wolf? Was it good?
I'm looking forward to Under Heaven, and Tigana. I am also going to read the selection - Sailing to Sarantium, but haven't gotten it yet, as I have a stack of 'to reads' on my end table beside my recliner that is reaching the proportions of a Dagwood sandwich! In spite of that pile, I started Janny's Mistwraith series and can't stop! I'm addicted! I'm starting Traitor's Knot, and then Stormed Fortress, as well as David's book Second Coming.I also have more Carol Berg on my list, Son of Avonar. I get a little rush when I think about wading through all of that!
I'm about to start Troy: Fall of Kings by david gemmell, the concluding volume of his Troy series.I loved the other two and have high hopes for this one as well, though it was written by his wife.
Sarah wrote: "I'm about to start Troy: Fall of Kings by david gemmell, the concluding volume of his Troy series.I loved the other two and have high hopes for this one as well, though it was writte..."
Going word is she didn't lose a stitch. The reader who recommended this series to me said it was probably Gemmel's best work. I've read the first two, and agree it's top notch. The third is on my wish list, but I do trust the heads up that the third volume is splendidly done.
Janny wrote: "Sarah wrote: "I'm about to start Troy: Fall of Kings by david gemmell, the concluding volume of his Troy series.I loved the other two and have high hopes for this one as well, though..."
I'm about 70 pages through and so far find it as good as the others.
These books keep me constatnly surprised even when I know how the legend of Troy ends.
I'm currently reading the name of the wind and loving every word of it!And going to order the hardcover edition of The Dragon Keeper and dragon haven of Robin Hobb. Have heard so much good about her and now I'm gonna experience it for my self:) hopefully they will get here before the month is over.
Under Heaven is also on my "very-soon-to-read" list:)
Tina wrote: "I'm currently reading the name of the wind and loving every word of it!And going to order the hardcover edition of The Dragon Keeper and [book:dragon haven|7011403..."
If you haven't read Hobb before, I'd suggest you don't start with the Rain Wild Chronicles. They wouldn't be nearly as good without her other books first! It's best to start with the Farseer series or the Liveship one.
Currently I'm reading: The Curse of the Mistwraith (which is one of the most pleasant literary surprises I've had in a while...I can't put it down) and Red Seas Under Red Skies (I don't think I can get enough of the Gentlemen Bastards). I have The Curse of Chalion on hold at the library. I've never read Bujold before and I've heard a lot of good stuff about her so I'm excited about this one. I should get it any day now. My wish list for June (if I have time) is as follows:
The Second Coming
Dragon Haven
The Desert Spear
The Steel Remains (Has anyone read this one? Any thoughts/opinions?)
Acacia: The War with the Mein
Before They Are Hanged
The Ships of Merior
I get all aquiver with excitement just thinking about it. So much to read, so little time....
Thanks Dawn, going to follow your advise and buy some of her earlier works first:)Going to read The farseer trilogy this month then:
Assassin's Apprentice, Royal Assassin and Assassin's Quest
Found some cheap pockets, too bad I can't get a hold of hardcover. Cuz I just know that Robin Hobb's books is one of them authors I want to have in hardcover.
Tina wrote: "Found some cheap pockets, too bad I can't get a hold of hardcover. Cuz I just know that Robin Hobb's books is one of them authors I want to have in hardcover. ."How do you know? You have not read her books yet.
I loved the Farseer and Liveship Traders trilogies. I even re-read both of them half an year ago before reading the Tawny Man...
Hated the Tawny Man trilogy. Some of the worst fantasy I have read in the last 5 years.
Have not read the latest duology yet. The Tawny Man has really turned me off of Robin Hobb :( She used to be my at top 5 of my favourite writers.
hmm, so far...The Nixie's Song
A Giant Problem
The Wyrm King
Eragon
Eldest
Many Waters
Emperor Mage
The Red Tent
The Realms of the Gods
Wicked Lovely
Fablehaven
Rise of the Evening Star
The War of Mists
The Hunger Games
The Fionavar Tapestry
on book 3 in the Fionovar Tapestry, which I highly recommend to all.
Sarah, while I appreciate gratuitous sex & violence in a novel from time to time, I thought that Morgan went overboard with The Steel Remains. Mostly the sex. It really felt more like shock value than plot value.Aside from that, the story does pick up and the novel has a nice finish.
I finished
by Andrew Davidson yesterday.Incredible love story. Not for faint-hearted though. Fantastic book.
My thoughts
The next one is
by Guy Gavriel KayAlthough, it is a bit difficult to concentrate on it after The Gargoyle.
Wow the gargoyle. I only read the first chapter,my friend was reading it and handed it to me on the bus. One chapter.
One.
I was amazed.
Haven't read the rest, maybe it deteriorates after the first. but Arthur is correct.Twice.1 NOT for the faint of heart. Even the first chapter. 2 Don't let the first chapter throw you, I have a feeling you would be really missing something.
I am flying through The Emerald Storm by Michael J. Sullivan
I must say it is keeping my up way past my bedtime because it is so interesting! I love the characters and the story just keeps getting better and better with each book in this wonderful series!
Just finished The Emerald Storm last night. I really enjoyed it, and always I'm looking forward to the next book. :)
Needless to say, as usual, I've deviated from my plan. Finished the Mistwraith series with much sorrow to be done until the next book comes out. Needed some light reading after that, so listened to On the Grind, and am now listening to A River in the Sky, with the delightful Amelia Peabody. Also read Magic Bleeds, a quickie. Yesterday started To Ride Hell's Chasm, as I just couldn't stay away from Janny. I think I'll read Jerusalem Fire next.
Currently re-reading His Dark Materials then moving on to The Name of the Wind which I'm looking forward too immensely.
Finished my wild ride with Kay and the Ninth Driver with Lord of Emperors (my review). Now I'm returning to finish, in the next hour or so, another book club read: The Second ComingAfter that, not sure what's next. I should read another Kay book, Under Heaven, but after reading Brooke's review, I may want to separate myself from the Sarantine Mosaic a bit before tackling a similar version in Asia. I've got a couple of anthologies to rush through, on short loan from the library so that could do the trick.
I read Agent of Change. I'm now reading Warchild and The Curse of the Mistwraith.I have to wonder why it is that when I do a search through the add book/author link that rarely does the book I want show up first. For example I did the search for Warchild and Charlie Wilson's War comes up first. Could it be that some titles get preferential treatment? :)
Jeff wrote: "I have to wonder why it is that when I do a search through the add book/a..."@Jeff: I always use the ISBN for the book I'm wanting to reference. That way I always get the book edition and cover I want to display and link to.
Just finished The Emerald Storm and started on Elantris then I'll be moving on to read Janny Wurts series starting with The Curse of the Mistwraith
Barbm1020 wrote: "Just finished The Physick Book of Deliverance Dane. Somewhat predictable to me as a lifelong reader on American folklore, and the story is stretched over a long summer - unnecessarily I felt - but..."I agree completely.
So far I've finished The Angel Experiment, Going Postal, and Making Money. I'm currently reading The Mysterious Benedict Society, Magic for Marigold, and Manja. I go on vacation next week and will be bringing the other Maximum Ride books with me. :)
Currently reading Elantris and Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. Captain's Fury is next in queue.
So far I've read The Curse of the Mistwraith, Breath and Bone and I'm now taking a break from the standard fantasy and reading A Great and Terrible Beauty.
Melissa wrote: "So far I've read The Curse of the Mistwraith, Breath and Bone and I'm now taking a break from the standard fantasy and reading A Great and Terrible Beauty."I hope you read Flesh and Spirit first!
I like Carol Berg's first trilogy a lot but her Lighthouse duology (Flesh and Spirit / Breath and Bone) blew me away! Amazing books.
Jeff wrote: "I like Carol Berg's first trilogy a lot but her Lighthouse duology (Flesh and Spirit / Breath and Bone) blew me away! Amazing books."Me, too! I just loved them.
Melissa wrote: "Sandra AKA Sleo wrote: I hope you read Flesh and Spirit first! oh absolutely!"
Oh good! I hope you liked them. :)
I finished The Second Coming (my review) yesterday morning before driving an hour to my grandmother's funeral. Not the best type of book to read right before attending such a function. :)Since I can't renew an Interlibrary Loan, I'll have to quickly finish The Solaris Book of New Fantasy so I can return it Monday. If I get that anthology done today (and I hope to), my next book club read is The Last Stormlord.
So glad I have a lazy Saturday to spend indoors where it's cool. Outside, in Kansas for the next several days, it will be highly humid and in the mid to upper 90s. Yuck! And it's not even officially summer yet!

So sorry about your grandmother. I'm reading The Last Stormlord also. Is that for this group of Beyond Reality?
I have a very sick dog that I'm staying home with. :( But will get lots of reading done, hopefully. Will finish Jerusalem Fire and hopefully The Passage which I'm listening to, but it's interminably long. Not your average vampire story, lol.
