I really liked this book, the world that is set up is a great one. It is hard to describe as there are new species of "people", demons, and monsters. Things are revealed slowly as like Helen, the main character, we are learning as she learns. This is somewhat confusing but allows you to feel what Helen does and you can imagine yourself in her place. I loved the people that are in Helen's life, Miss Mabel is a firecracker and you wish there was someone like her in your life, and Lex...more I really liked this book, the world that is set up is a great one. We are only shown a little of the guys and how they work within their world, I can only hope that more books will reveal more of them and their environment.People that are fans of JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood and Lara Ardian's Breed series should like this one
I'm only 30 pages in, but I'm already hooked. There's something interesting about it. I hope it continues to keep my attention.
Why is it that all of these authors pick words that take effort to pronounce instead of something that rolls of the tongue? The names for the races take effort.
I don't even try, just let my eyes recognize the word and go on. But you are right about it, and it drives me batty!!
I do the same thing.
So, I'm really liking the story so far. I love her style and her characters. However, I feel like there's so much going on the romance side that I frequently forget there's a plot running through the story. I know it's a paranormal romance book so it's a big emphasis and the plot is there...Is it just me? I might just be in a weird mood. I'm actually enjoying the plot so I'm not sure how I'm getting distracted from it.

I can't believe Thomas died! I love the intro scene in the dinner with Lexi fighting like crazy and the guy just loving every moment of it. I'm not sure what's up with the vamp like dude. There's something likable to him, but I don't trust him either.
The stories an interesting twist with the lifemate issue that Feehan and Sands are so popular because of. The fact that he can't let go of her (literally and figuratively) leads for some great moments. I must say I'm glad he grabbed her ankle in the bathtub. It's the safest place. =) I thought it was cute that he tried to be good.

I know what you mean Heather, about Thomas. I didn't expect that. I think the lifemate thing is popular due to how real life is. With divorce so prevalent it is nice to see this permanent pairing up.
I can't seem to finish it. I'm interested, but I just keep getting sidetracked re-watching True Blood.
Although, I'm pretty sure I get where her "vision" is going to come from. Does each book in the series focus on a new couple? Or stick with these two?

Each book focuses on a new couple and the second book expands on the community that they have built. The 3rd book just came out and it deals with Lexi and Zach. I am looking forward to that one!
I'm going to start on the book at lunch. From what you guys have said above, it sounds really good to me.
I'm interested to see what happens in book 2. I think what kept me enjoying the book instead of loving it, is that I need a more tangible bad guy. However, it looks like I'll get just that for the next story so I'm excited.
Miss Mabel was one of my favorite things about the book. I would love to have someone like her in my life or when I get that old to be Miss Mabel!
********** Spoilers maybe ******************I am merely on page 15 and not enjoying the story at all. I like the writing and want to give Shannon Butcher a chance, but this seems like hard core romance. Not my cup of tea. If some man blocked my exit, no matter how he good smelled or how he handsome he was, I would be irrate. Making such behavior romantic does not appeal to me. The men's attitude toward women (and humans) make me very uncomfortable. Even the sentence that stated the sentinels are protecting humans didn't soften Drake's behavior. "Give me your name, he ordered" and Helen promply gives it to him? I'd be calling 911. Miss Mable may be a bright spot.
***** Spoilers *********I'm on page 17 and Zach has Lexi pinned up against the counter, nearly bent over backwards. Zach is enjoying her desperate blows. "I'm willng to play if you want, honey. I don't mind if you like it rough." No, no, no, not for me.
I'm going with your 50 page rule, Darcy. Wait a minute, didn't you lower the number of pages you would read before putting the book down?
No, I've not read any of her books. I read the description of one of her books. Seemed to be a lot of passion!
It's a similar concept with the guy acting that way. There's a specific need on the guys part and it's not just sex. And they act like doofuses (?) because of it.
The book just started off wrong for me. I do have to remember that Shannon Butcher is a hard core romance writer who has stepped over to PNR.************ Spoiler *****************
I personally think that Helen is not bound by blood to that lying Logan. One cannot make a vow without knowing what one is vowing to. Full disclosure is necessary. I was hoping that Logan gets killed in this book. Stupid blood sucker!
I just recently picked up the first book in this series but haven't read it yet. I think I will avoid the spoilers on this...I'm bad at reading endings but I don't always want to know what happens before I've read the book.
Once you read it come back and post since it's one of the books that gets points. I need to go back and finish the rest of the series.
Heather wrote: "Once you read it come back and post since it's one of the books that gets points. I need to go back and finish the rest of the series."Ok thanks. It took a while before I found where it belonged for the points but found it. I will have to stick it in a challenge somewhere so I can get it read. Is there a time limit somewhere when to have read it by (i.e. end of year)? Since I don't think I was a member when it was a monthly read that is.
For this book, it's by the end of the year. Once you read, just come here and post that you finished. However, you don't get points for using the same book in a group read and a challenge read. You get more points if you just post here and use a diff book for a challenge.
Just finished the first book and loved it! The character world feels a bit different than the usual PNR fare. Plus, the story started right at page 1...no wading through tons of world building for things to pick up.I will definitely be reading more of this series.
