Do you feel lucky...are the dice on your side? For this task you will need to visit the website (3 Random Dice). The amount shown on the dice (+/- 10) will be the amount of pages that you will need to read for this task. I.E. if you rolled a 3,5,2 you would need to read a book between between 342 and 362 pages long (EXAMPLE: Son of a Witch (Wicked Years, #2)). You can only click on the link one time.

If you need suggestions OR have suggestions for books to read for this task post them here.

Cassandra The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins (528)?

I got 215. I'm going with Cat on a Hot Tin Roof.

message 5: by Nicole (new)

Nicole | 1295 comments You may want to kick me, but I was a little bummed about rolling 224. I kind of wanted to be forced to read a huge book since I tend to avoid them in the name of finishing the challenges. But still- most books I read are 300 and more!

message 6: by Felina (new)

Felina | 0 comments I got 513. I think the dice roll website likes 5's. :)

message 7: by Bluemoon (new)

Bluemoon (bluemoon286) | 1797 comments I agree with Felina it likes those 5's. I rolled 516. Not sure what I will read yet.

Elizabeth (Alaska) OK, you're making ME feel lucky. I got 442.

Cait, I enjoyed Cancer Ward and found it to be a rather quick read despite it's size. I'd recommend it.

Running with Scissors (320 pgs) is on your TBR list. It's an interesting book with a bit of humour.

Jamie (The Perpetual Page-Turner) (perpetualpageturner) | 306 comments Ah nice! Thanks! I wanted to fit that book into the challenge!!

message 19: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer (jml_417) I rolled 422 and finally found one on my TBR shelf that's at the upper limit - 432 pages - Sarah's Quilt: A Novel of Sarah Agnes Prine and the Arizona Territories, 1906. Talk about cutting it close! ;)

Elizabeth (Alaska) I moved Memoirs of a Geisha to this task (434 pages) and will find something else for the numerology task.

message 21: by Cindy AL (new)

Cindy AL (cangelmd) | 645 comments Jennifer!!! thank you thank you!!! I rolled 435 and couldn't find anything at my house. I read the sequel to Sarah's Quilt, The Star Garden: A Novel of Sarah Agnes Prine, for another challenge and it was great. I've been meaning to read sarah's Quilt and now I've got a good reason...you are now officially the best!

message 22: by Donna Jo (new)

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Oops, I lied. Actually, I just can't type, and it's 633 pages. Even my fingers are dyslexic today.

I'm happy I could help! :)

Have you read These Is My Words? It's the first book of the trilogy and I LOVED it. In case anyone else is interested, the PB version that I have is 384 pages.

Julia (bambbles) | 114 comments Arg! Frustrating!

I swear almost every romance novel i have clicked on from my TBR list is 384 pages! I rolled 262...

YES! Oh wonderful! I was looking for a place to put Wanderlust and Lipstick: The Essential Guide for Women Traveling Solo! 272 exactly! Just made it...

message 27: by Cindy AL (new)

Cindy AL (cangelmd) | 645 comments Not yet Jennifer, I'm reading them backwards, which is kind of bad because stuff happens :)! Star Garden is very good, though

With the right edition, one of these should work:
The Idiot 615 pages
The Portrait of a Lady 640 pages
The Once and Future King640 pages
Foucault's Pendulum 623 pages
The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay 639 pages
Shirley 624 pages

A Prayer for Owen Meany 637 pages

It helps to have books in a spreadsheet that has a column for number of pages.... :D

And since the last time I exported my books to excel, Goodreads has made it really really easy.

Go to Goodread's help page and look for the help topic for "import books". Under that topic is a link for "export your books". Clicking on it automatically exports all your books on your shelf to an excel file. The file has a column for titles and a column for pages, from there you can sort the whole sheet by number of pages & scroll to the relevant section to look at the corresponding titles.

message 36: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments I rolled 213 so 203-223 pages. Nothing on my owned tbr fits! The Boy Who Wore Striped Pajamas NEARLY fit but was over by ONE PAGE! 224 pages! AAAAAARRRRG :P

Liz M Tanja wrote: "I rolled 213 so 203-223 pages. Nothing on my owned tbr fits! The Boy Who Wore Striped Pajamas NEARLY fit but was over by ONE PAGE! 224 pages! AAAAAARRRRG :P"

This edition of The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas is 208 pages.

ETA: Which is probably not the edition you own.

In general for this task, it's best to check the pages of an actual copy, as Amazon (where goodread's gets the book data) doesn't have accurate page counts -- I assume there are "standard default sizes" for books and the data tends to reflect those page numbers.

message 38: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments I'll have to check the page count of the physical book that I own. :)

I thought there had to be an easier way to do it! I'll try itwith my stuff.

Use the website.

message 45: by Jennifer N. (new)

Jennifer N. | 421 comments Not to complain but I got 164. I'm not sure if I have any books that short on my TBR list.

Elizabeth (Alaska) Two Old Women: An Alaska Legend of Betrayal, Courage and Survival is 160 pages. Probably not on your TBR list, but it's certainly the right length.

Liz Jennifer N. wrote: "Not to complain but I got 164. I'm not sure if I have any books that short on my TBR list."

here are some that would work from my tbr, if that helps at all.
The Island of Dr. Moreau
A Trail of Broken Promises
Pudd'nhead Wilson

message 49: by Liz (new)

Liz I rolled a 225, so not tons of choices (I rerolled just for fun & ended up with a 324, which would have been a whole lot easier for me, but oh well!)

I'm considering these three from my tbr:
The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
Like Water for Chocolate
Same Kind of Different as Me

Liz, from my Read list, I can recommend:
All the Broken Pieces (224 pgs)

...gosh, you're right.....that's a hard number of pages to match. That's the only recommendation I have for you.
Hitchhiker's Guide is interesting.
