TV We've Just Watched discussion
Cancelled/Series Ended

Haven
I found my husband watching the premier episode and it got me hooked. It made me want to go try the SK that it is based on but from the looks of it, Colorado Kid is just a novelet? I guess originally published with a bunch of other short stories from other authors?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Colo...The Colorado Kid is a mystery novel written by Stephen King for the Hard Case Crime imprint, published in 2005. The book was issued in one paperback-only edition by the specialty crime and mystery publishing house.
Roxy, it doesn't appear to be in collections of short stories. I haven't read it, so I don't know for sure. I read the plot summary and it doesn't appeal to me.
Thanks, Jackie. Perhaps I just misunderstood the description. I may have to get it from the library.
I tried to like this show, but i'm not sure if i'll keep watching or not. I love Eric Balfour and he's been in a few shows i've liked, but they always get the ax. I was hoping this one would be good to/for him, but i just don't know.
It's kind of sucking, IMO. I don't think I can watch much more of it. It'll go the way of Warehouse 13 and Sanctuary for me...dropped with no regrets. Unless it gets significantly better real quick.
I feel you on that one. My only regret will be not seeing Eric Balfour in anything. Did you ever watch Conviction? I liked it a lot, but it didn't make it through one season. Damn i hope he gets something good.
No, didn't see that one. That's the problem with picking up new shows, they get cancelled before the season's finished. It really infuriates me. I'm reluctant to try anything new.
Oh! My hubby and I thought Conviction was awesome! So pissed when that got the boot after a short first season. Thought it was a good change up to the usual L&O pattern.I'm behind on my Haven episodes. I've seen the chick in something before, not sure what, but there is something about her that makes me want to watch her. I am worried that all the little quirks they discovered will never be explained in anyway....just a town full of misfits. That would bug me. that is about how they've ended every episode so far; figure out who the weird thing comes from and thats it. No why.
Yes, Roxy, that's what annoying me too. Maybe at the end of the season they'll give us something. Emily Rose was in Brothers & Sisters. She worked as Tommy's assistant and she slept with him. I think she was a friend of Rebecca's.
Roxy Conviction was just getting good when those asses took it off. That's part of why i almost didn't start anything new for the summer. But summer shows usually make it through the summer. Like Unknown Persons should tell all at summers end. Done, over, no worries if it comes back or not. Have you seen the preview of the new L&O show? L&O Los Angeles, i've seen the logo but not any of the cast. Not sure if i'll watch it or not.
I started watching Haven and feel the same way as Jackie. It's lacking in something and it's not pulling me in. The same with Warehouse 13. I was watching that the first season and now I could care less if I see it or not. Not sure why. It's weird how some shows can draw you in and some, not so much. I think the characters are too lackluster for me.
I agree. They lack chemistry or something. Haven kind of feels that way to me too. I think it's the male cop that works with the female lead. He seems so dull. She's okay, but not good enough to hold the show together.
And they throw Eric's character here and there with something smart to say, and then he's off. Half the time i can't figure out way he's even there in the first place.
Now he owns the restaurant so that may put him in more storylines. I think they're trying to get him and Audrey hooked up. Otherwise he has no importance in the story.
Jackie said: "Emily Rose was in Brothers & Sisters...."That's it! Thanks, Jackie. I remember being torn, didn't like Tommy cheating but there was something about the actress I liked.
Ok, the last episode was strange even for haven. Not only was the taxadermist stuffed but so was his mother?! Good golly! That made my head spin a little. Lots of questions. One can only assume that each was stuffed after they'd had children? Doesn't anyone notice the lack of heartbeat? Guess the family doesn't believe in going to the doctor much. On the plus side....they probably don't get sick! And yet they've got to be as afraid of fire as the Scarecrow!
Totally weird! What's annoying me now is, they keep referring to The Troubles, yet not another word about it. Obviously it's similar in nature as to what's happening now, but I think it'd be cool to give specifics and to know exactly when The Troubles happened last and if this is an ongoing cycle and why this happens only in this town. These random weird events mean nothing unless it's part of a larger pattern. But we have to get into some of that to make this show interesting IMO.
I agree. That was a weird episode. I had to rewind the part where she said the mother was stuffed too because it didn't make sense to me. I think I like the old werewolf tales with a new spin on them better than stuffed animals. WTF?
Jackie - the one lady who, crap sorry I can't remember anyone's names, cute-officer-dude ended up asking out did go into a little ditty about either the troubles or magic; about it being in the town, in the soil, all around them.
Roxy, too little info. I think it's an intriguing idea, The Troubles, full of mystery. I don't mind it unfolding slowly, but not this slow, LOLMagic (or whatever it is) being 'in the soil' reminds me of King's Pet Sematary, one his his better novels. Kept me enthralled til the very end.
I wouldn't expect much with the first season. Shows like this usually do a lite, no mentioned or followed often, on going story to keep you wanting a little more but mainly work on stand alone episodes so anyone can pick up the show at any time. I'm trying to hang in because I enjoy watching some of the actors and am a little intrigued.
plus, I can DVR it and watch it whenever. Not sure if I would stick around if I had to watch it live.
I wouldn't watch anything live. The commercials annoy the hell outta me. Plus I love the pause button in case I have to do something, then I don't miss anything. I think I'd marry my DVR if I weren't married already, LOL
LOL! My husband & I got our DVR when our first child was born, 5 years ago. We fell in love with that pause button too. "I can't hear what's happening because the baby is crying! Hold on! I can pause it while feed and change him and he quiets down!" LOL
I love early Stephen King and this series definitely has some classic King characterization and creepiness, however, I'll agree that the series isn't as well-written as I would have liked. So far it's just creepy enough for me and yet my 12-yr-old can watch it and still sleep well at night.I definitely think the taxidermist episode was one of the best and creepiest... if more of the episodes could meet that episode's creep factor, I think it will win more fans!
Lets hope that if this show makes it to season 2 they will encorporate more on going story. You can only tolerate stand-alone episodes for so long.Oh! I know what I wanted to chat about.....the most recent episode, Dark Man. SPOILER ALERT if you have not watched it yet.
So, eh, the blind guy for whatever reason (because there are no reasons in Haven) has a shadow that can leave his body and well kill people. So what do they do, barracade the guy in his house for presumably the rest of his life?! What? I'm not sure what I'd expect them to do but doesn't that seem drastic? I'd see the last 2 minutes of the show before I got to see the whole thing so when I saw the boarded up house I assumed the episode was about a werewolf.
I agree, Roxy. When it got to the end and that was their solution, I thought How Freakin Unrealistic! So this guy has absolutely no life now, a complete shut in? Which really doesn't solve the problem anyway. If he listens to the news, can't he get angry? Get an annoying phone call? Oops, there goes the shadow again. I hate when there's a stupid ending and this one was utterly stupid.
Its like they said,"eh he's blind and can't get past the death of his wife. Might as well make him a shut-in." Oh brother!
It's bad enough they made him a prisoner in his own house but it's for nothing. And that's what's stupid.
Yeah, I agree that was really weird. Does it mean his shadow can't escape a boarded up house? And the poor guy is stuck there until he dies? This show is one of the weirdest show I have ever seen. I think that's why I am still watching it, but if things get stupid, I will just give up. They did hint that Nathan is connected to the Troubles (his girlfriend said something about him being connected to it when she left).
The endings are sometimes like they ran out of creative steam...."eh, just admit his shadow disconnects some how & board him up." Show over.
I watched that episode a few days ago, and thought the same as you all do. How does he get food, money to pay bills, fresh air, human contact? I get why he had the evil shadow, but that was the most unrealistic ending i do believe i've ever seen. I thought this show was getting better, and for the most part it is, but that ending sucked. Did old boy feel her kiss his check? It looked like he did.
Yeah, I caught that at the end too when she kissed his cheek. I don't know. This show is so weird, I'm not sure what to make of it.
Lori, I think he felt it. And now he'll want to be with her. I would really like, for once, to not have the two main characters of a show hook up, it's so predictable and boring. I thought Audrey would be with Duke, that's an interesting pairing. And that Nathan would be with the French girl. Guess not, now she left and he can feel Audrey. Bor-ing.
I agree. This last episode was better than the last couple of episodes. It made some sense and gave us some more clues to the Troubles.
I didn't see the whole bday party episode yet but I did see the last half. I'm so bummed that the Dr/M.E. was killed. I really liked her! Thought she would be a big help to Audrey. I suppose now her daughter will take over her position?
