Where to start???
After years of hearing my friends at another discussion forum rave about Discworld, I finally dove in. I am reading the books in publication order and am not up to the latest ones yet, but I LOVE them. I laugh out loud every time I read him, yet I always come away with a new perspective on something.
I am not reading _Nation_ but may pick it up, depending on the discussion here.

You should check out the Johnny Maxwell books. They're good too. Not so much the Bromelaid books, though.
There's also television film version of some of the Discworld books. There are cartoons of Wyrd Sisters and Soul Music. Hokey animantion, but the witches were nailed. Live action version of Hogfather (with David Warner no less) as well as The Color of Magic (with Sean Astin as Twoflower and the man who plays Det. Frost as Rincewind). Both are out on DVD in the states.
But you really should read Nation; I think it's his best work.
I adore the Discworld books that I've read, though I haven't read them all and have been reading them in sort of random order depending on which ones appeal at any given moment.
My favorites are Hogfather, The Truth, and Lords and Ladies. And Soul Music. And Pyramids. Ok, it's hard to pick a favorite.
I also absolutely love Good Omens, which he co-authored with Neil Gaiman, another of my favorite authors.
