Hi Vicki ... I'm a teacher too in New Zealand ... I teach high school Maths ... :)
It is currently winter school holiday break .... so I'm just loving having the time to read ...
Are you on summer holidays yet?

Hi Valerie,
Mysteries I got into that are both paranormal and cozy are those written by Victoria Laurie. The author ,like her character Abby,is a professional medium.
There was also another set of mysteries by an author whose last name began with "H" who had a group of FBI special unit detectives. Maybe someone else on this site will recognize this blurb and give you an author name. I believe the series was called the Bishop series. I thought it might be an easier transistion to mysteries if you could combine a favorite genre with a new one,so I listed these.
I love Sharyn McCrumb, although she is not a cozy writer per say,she does have two wonderful characters who have "the sight". Old Rattler and Nora Bonesteel are two of my favorite characters in fiction. For a charming Applachian tale Ghost Riders will introduce you to Old Rattler.

My name is Betsy and I'm 59 years old and have no idea how I got to be this old so soon.Like others on this site,I'm an across the map reader but tend to stick to mysteries, the most current fiction, and pop sociology.
I live in a small tourist town in WVa,Berkeley Springs-home to America's first spa and as advertisements say: Many people can say George Washington slept here, but we can say George Washington bathed here. In the mile long state park they have a stone crevice where supposedly George took his bath in the bubbling hot streams.

Yes, Helen I am on summer break. Looking forward to the extra time to read. Hope you enjoy your winter holiday! And welcome to the group also.
Welcome to Betsy and Valorie also.

The author is Kay Hooper. They are three trilogies which are related. Suspense with romance and paranormal elements, very good books (at least for me).

Betsy, I'm 62, but don't feel it - in my mind, at least. The joints tell a different story.

Christina, as a scrapbooker, are you familiar with Joanna Campbell Slan's scrapbooking mystery series? I bet you'd like it!

Hi Kim! I'm in Cedar Park--guess that baby is about here!!! Congrats!

My favorite cozy authors:
Elizabeth Peters--Love Amelia Peabody and Vicky Bliss!!!
Kaye C. Hill -- hardly anyone knows this one; she's with a small press in the UK. Writes wonderful little cozies with that English style. Lots of fun.
Let's see...I also love Virginia Lanier, although hers aren't really cozies. Little more real life than that, but just excellent reads.
Oh! Anne George--just love that southern humor and the little old ladies solving the crimes (and they really aren't *that* old either.) Fun!
Glad to be here and looking for books!
Maria

I'm a Kay Hooper fan as well!

Welcome Mary and it so cool that you visited and gifted the library! I can't wait to check out your books---I love talk radio!

I like her books a lot too. And my mother (the two ones which have been translated into Spanish :( )

I love PNR. I'll have to try some of the paranormal mysteries out there. I know I enjoy Amanda Quick's Arcane Society novels, and they always feature mysteries.

Caitlin & Sandra - my husband does read some, but doesn't get why I have to have so many books around. They are comfort. I do get rid of most of my books after I've read them though. I should stop buying, but it's hard to do that.

Martha: I truly understand. I have over 3000 sq ft in the house that I live in and literally have books almost everywhere. What aren't on shelves are in boxes several layers high. My house bid was finally accepted in Phoenix (AZ), we close on Monday. The house I am buying has not quite 1700 sq ft. As has been discussed in another thread my s.o. is a hoarder so between his problem and my book addiction trying to pack "lite" should be interesting.

Martha, that sounds amazing. I would love to see it! Since I was a little girl I have always wanted a two story book room!
