Charmaine Clancy (charmaineclancy) | 3 comments Hi all!
I'm an Aussie reader/author who loves all mysteries. I was brought up on Christie and still love getting back into those, but also love these newer cozies which cross over hobbies/interests with murder. Anything with dogs in it is a big win for me, but I must admit I also like the cooking ones and my favourite cookie recipe is from Joanna Flunke (could be wrong about the surname). Oh, but I can't dismiss the great cat mysteries too, my cat loves interrupting my reading with those ones!
Another area I like to read is middle grade and YA mysteries (the market I write for) and am really happy to see a trend for girls' mysteries returning with modern day versions of Trixie Beldon and Nancy Drew.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Welcome Charmaine!

Ann♥♪♪♪♪ (musicisablessing) Hi Charmaine! :) I love Nancy Drew mysteries - definitely modern. :) Some things are always relevant and timeless. :) I just joined this group a couple of days ago and Goodreads a few months ago. :)

Beth | 616 comments Welcome to the group, Pat, Ann, Rhonda, Mandy (same name as my river ranger sleuth!), Karen, Annie, and Charmaine! You'll find suggestions for many wonderful mystery books here.

message 2405: by Amber (new)

Amber | 1 comments Hi! I'm Amber, and I'm new to the whole goodreads scene. I'm also horrible at introductions. I'm a graduate student from Minnesota, and I read mostly cozies and historical fiction when I'm not reading textbooks (which, unfortunately is most of the year, haha!). I appreciate cozies because they're fun, quick reads that I can usually manage to handle on top of those darn texts. I'm a huge fan of Laura Childs' series', Cleo Coyle's coffeeshop books, Rhys Bowen's series', and tons of others. Besides reading, in my spare time I try to scrapbook and love to bake. :)

message 2406: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone!!! My name is Vanessa and I'm a huge fan of reading. I swear, I swear I spend more time with my nose in a book than my nose into actual things that are going on around me! I joined GoodReads a couple of months ago, and I'm in love with this site. I also joined this group because I LOVE cozy mysteries - my favorite author being Heather Webber/ Heather Blake (Her Wishcraft series is the BEST!). I began really getting into mysteries last summer when I decided to re-read Agatha Christie's _And Then There Were None_. I haven't looked back since... I'm so glad to be a part of this group. :)

message 2407: by MaryAnn (new)

MaryAnn Kempher (mkempher) | 23 comments Hi Venessa, I'm a huge fan of Agatha Christie. I've read all (I think) of her Hercule Poirot series, next I'll start on Miss Marple. Forgive me for a tiny shameless self promo, but I've written a mystery novel, actually romantic mystery. If you like Agatha Christie and/or Jane Austen, you'll probably like Mocha, Moonlight, and Murder. That's it, I'm done. I'll never mention my book again. :) Promise. Welcome.

message 2408: by Rhonda (new)

Rhonda Gilliland | 26 comments My favorite mystery series growing up was Donna Parker. I think that's where I started judging books by the cover art. I also liked the Bobbsey Twins. I didn't read any other of the popular children's mysteries. I loved Harriet the Spy.

I loved the Donna Parker books! Had the whole series and read them multiple times!

message 2412: by Holly (new)

Holly (hbloomie) | 5 comments Hello everyone. I'm Holly and I have been coming to Goodreads since 2010 to read up on books I was interested in. I finally joined in 2012 and have been updating my shelves. I finished that and thought I should join a group in my favorite genre and this group looked perfect. I'm looking forward to reading everyones opinions on each 'Cozy'.

message 2417: by Emily (new)

Emily Hello all! I'm Emily. My favorite kind of mysteries (and I know it's dorky) are Nancy Drew Mysteries. I read the books, play the games, and watch the 1970s TV show! What I love most about mysteries is that they make you really think about what's going on and mentally piece the puzzle together. Mysteries are at their best when it's raining outside and the house is empty and you have either a cat on your lap or a cup of tea in your hand (or both!). So... yeah! :)

My name is Frances, and I am a retired high school English teacher. I just found cozy mysteries a couple of years ago and have read very little else since! My favorite author is Laura Childs. I love all three of her series, but my favorite is the Tea Shoppe Mysteries.

I just finished the first 13 Jane Jeffrey mysteries by Jill Churchill. They are totally entertaining. I am waiting for the library to get the last two in.

I am also a HUGE fan of Richard Castle's Nicki Heat mysteries. Even though they are not technically cozy mysteries, they are great!

I have been a member of Goodreads for a good while, but am just joining a book club.

message 2422: by Carol (new)

Carol | 3 comments I love cozy mysteries and miss Valerie Wolzen and Jill Churchill. I especially missed Charlotte MacLeod when she had to quit writing, her books are such good reading. I look forward to every Joan Hess book. I began with those Nancy Drew books back when a kid and then got hooked by Agatha Christie. I usually read a book a day now that I am widowed and retired so I am always trying new authors. I live in northern Illinois in a small town where the infamous mobster Al Capone would stop for lunch on his way to his lair in Wisconsin and yes I have eaten in the same inn/tavern.

message 2423: by MaryAnn (new)

MaryAnn Kempher (mkempher) | 23 comments A book a day? Wow! I love to read, but now that I'm a writer--I feel almost guilty if I read, because I probably should be writing. I too really love Agatha Christie, her and Jane Austen are my favorite authors and they are my role models, for lack of a better way of putting it.

Without coming on too strong, I hope, I'd like to recommend you take a look at my book: MOCHA, MOONLIGHT, AND MURDER. It's romantic suspense and I tell people that if they like Jane Austen and/or Agatha Christie, they'll like this book.

Welcome. :)

message 2424: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Chumley (kathleenchumley) | 13 comments Hello,
I'm Kathy, and I live in Central Florida with my husband, teenage son, a cat and a dog. I love mysteries, though I'm not sure all of the ones I read are considered cozies.

I recently started reading Agatha Christie, and am kind of surprised that I've never read her books considering my love for mystery novels.

I don't know that I have a favorite cozy writer. I confess that sometimes I get tired of the formula and don't finish a series. I recently did that with Susan Whittig Albert's books. I really enjoyed them, but needed a break.

I'm hoping to be an active member of this group.

message 2425: by MaryAnn (new)

MaryAnn Kempher (mkempher) | 23 comments Hi Kathy. Wondering where abouts you live? I live in Brandon/Valrico. :)

My book MOCHA, MOONLIGHT, AND MURDER does not follow a typical formula. At least I don't think so. My favorite authors are Jane Austen and Agatha Christie. I tried to make my story a nice mixture of both genres.

Don't worry, this is the last time I'll mention my book. But it is a huge part of who I am, and you do say you like Agatha Christie.

Anyhoo-welcome. :)

message 2426: by MaryJo (new)

MaryJo Dawson | 857 comments Hello Mary Ann, welcome. I too am a Christie fan, as well as a fan of several other British mystery writers of that time line.
I have mentioned this before - but you weren't here - that Stephanie Barron has written some mysteries that feature Jane Austen as the sleuth! I've enjoyed them,
find them very "period," and well written.
perhaps you'd like to try them.

message 2427: by Cheri (new)

Cheri Baker (cheribaker) Hi everyone. my name is Cheri and I live in Seattle. I love cozies, particular those with a humorous angle and those that are set in the workplace. Looking forward to discovering more good books here.

message 2430: by Linda Langford (new)

Linda Langford (lindalchattingaboutcozies) Hi! My name is Linda Langford. I'm from East Texas...Lufkin, to be exact! I started reading more cozy mysteries in the last year, and I find so many great stories available to read on my Kindle. Currently, I am reading an advance copy of THE CAT SITTER'S CRADLE by Blaize & John Clement. It is an excellent read...book 8 of the Dixie Hemingway Mystery series. Ya'll be sure and buy y'all's copy because you won't want to miss this one!! So happy I joined this group! Thanks!!

Deanna | 4 comments Hi, I am Deanna from Virginia. I worked in a used book store 10 years ago and was attracted to the cozy mysteries by the book covers. I started with Earlene Fowler then moved on to Janet Evanovich. As of today I have a data base full of authors and books. I divide my time between reading, spending time in the kitchen and my sewing room.

Barb | 3 comments Hi. Just retired in Feb 2013 because I have fibro. Reading has been my sanity. I love to knit and cross stitch but the fibro has limited how much I can do them. I have a great husband, am Mom of 5, Gram of 6 and servant to 2 cats.

message 2433: by Dorie (last edited Jul 05, 2013 11:17AM) (new)

Dorie (dorieann) | 33 comments Hello all, I've not always liked cozy mysteries, preferring the more modern mysteries. But the last few years my reading tastes have changed and expanded and I enjoy them a lot now. I think it's because the older I get the more I appreciate books that make you feel good. I'm looking forward to discovering some new authors here.

Beth | 616 comments Wow, it's been too long since I checked this thread! Here's a warm welcome to Emily, Frances, Michelle, Carol, Kathy, Cheri, Duncan, Linda, Deanna, Barb and Dorie. Love your sense of humor, Duncan, and Barb, I hope the fibro isn't giving you much pain. Be forewarned, your to-read lists are about to balloon!

message 2435: by Barb (new)

Barb | 3 comments Hi: Been reading and knitting a long time. Was really happy to find "knitting mysteries" by Sally Goldenbaum, Maggie Sefton and Anne Canadeo. And yes I can read and knit unless I'm working on a fair isle pattern (big smile). It drives my husband crazy that I can do it too. I was diagnosed with fibro last Nov. and retired from my job in Feb. 2013 because of the "fibro fog". Gives me more time to read....YEAH!

message 2437: by Catie (new)

Catie Rhodes (catie_rhodes) I'm Catie. I was born and spent the first 30 years of my life in East Texas. It interested me to see someone a few comments up from my hometown (Lufkin). What a coincidence.

I read many genres, including cozy mysteries. Most recently, I read COLLATERAL CASUALTIES, A Kate Huntington Mystery. My favorites in the genre are probably Leann Sweeney's Yellow Rose Mysteries and Charlaine Harris's Harper Connelly Mysteries. I also liked the Julie Collins, PI series by Lori G. Armstrong. I think a few of the titles I mentioned border on Not Cozy. But they were close enough for me.

Currently in my TBR (to be read) pile are The Monarch and Dangerous and Unseemly: A Concordia Wells Mystery.

Nice to meet you all.

message 2438: by Veronica (new)

Veronica (readingonthefly) Hi, I'm Veronica. I live in Texas with my husband and our four children. I started out reading mysteries as a child (Nancy Drew, of course) and then I crossed over to science fiction and both traditional and urban fantasy, which is what I've mostly been reading these last few years. I only recently discovered Cozy mysteries so I'm having fun seeing all the books/series that others have read and recommended. My TBR list is exploding!

message 2439: by Leigh (new)

Leigh Perry (tonilpkelner) Hi, I'm Toni. Except when I'm Leigh.

In other words, I'm Toni L.P. Kelner, cozy reader and writer of 11 cozy mysteries. But starting in September, my first book in a new series comes out under the pen name Leigh Perry.

Though I'm originally from North Carolina, I moved to Massachusetts 26 years ago, and in the throes of homesickness, started writing a Southern-based mystery. Though I'd read a lot of mysteries, most of them were classics, and I decided I need to read the current stuff. And most of what I loved was cozy! (Maron, Hart, McCrumb, Charlaine Harris, and...and...lots more.) So my book became a cozy, and I've been cozy ever since.

Okay, sometimes I get noir for short stories, but those are just flings.

I live north of Boston with my husband Steve, our daughters, and two guinea pigs.

Catie and Veronica, we get a lot of Texas visitors here in Breckenridge, Colorado. They escape the heat in the summer and enjoy skiing in the winter.

Good to see you here, Toni!!!

message 2443: by Iris (new)

Iris Smale (irisoriginals) | 3 comments My name is Iris and I live in Alabama. I'm older than dirt and love to read cozy mysteries. I spend my "down time" either reading or cross stitching. Particularly love reading on my Kindle - but some of my favorite authors either don't offer Kindle books or are too expensive for me.

I'm a widow with 4 grown kids, 8 grandkids, 3 cats and a tiny teacup toy poodle who is my best friend.

I've tried a number of the free Kindle books - found some really good ones and some not so much. Just started with my local library online but not nearly as good a selection as I'd like.

I've been on goodreads for awhile but haven't participated in the discussions until now. Do have my ebooks organized here as the Kindle Fire doesn't offer any way to organize them.

message 2446: by Richard (new)

Richard Houston | 13 comments I just got an email from Goodreads telling me I better introduce myself or be banned. Well maybe that's a stretch, but here goes: Like Iris above, I too am older than dirt, but until recently didn't know it. I suppose that's why I thought I could write a book.

I lived in Colorado most of my life and worked my gray-cells to the end of their synapses writing software for Fortune 500 companies and NASA. Writing should be a cinch after that -- right. Well even though I can't complain about sales (my book's an amazon best selling mystery); you Goodread readers are killing me with your reviews.

So much for that topic, or I will be banned for self-promotion. The dirt that holds these old bones together is approaching seventy years. No, that's not quite right. The dirt is much older than that, but the body it's using is going on seventy and starting to fall apart. I've been reading mysteries for nearly half a century now and only recently discovered how much I like Cozies. Am I getting soft in my old age? I always thought they were for women. Men are supposed to be tough and macho -- right? Well guys, if any are reading this, you've been missing out on some really cool stories. I'm so tired of gratuitous sex and violence, and if I have to read one more book where every adjective starts with the letter F, I'm going to step on my glasses and never read again. Thank the Lord for cozies. I don't care what Maxium thinks of me.

Cate Price (cateprice) | 3 comments Hi everyone,

I'm Cate Price and I'm a debut author with a sewing-notions-themed mystery series for Berkley Prime Crime. I live near Philadelphia with two wonderful rescue dogs.

I first fell in love with cozies when my mum introduced me to Diane Mott Davidson and her culinary mysteries. My current favorites are Lucy Burdette, Cleo Coyle, M.C. Beaton, Laura Childs and Janet Evanovich (if she's considered cozy?).

Very nice to be here on Goodreads! I've already discovered lots of new books to add to my "want-to-read" list.

two of the local fans of my own cozies who have left me great reviews are men over 60.... it is a new age indeed!
