Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Hi, Everybody. My name is Lisa.

I should have joined this group when it was new. There is no way I can catch up, so I'll mark all as read and read the new posts I have time to read. I'll probably be a lurker but I'll join in if/when I can.

I've been a fan of mysteries, especially cozy mysteries ever since I started reading books for fun at age 7 or 8. I go through stages where my main genre is cozy mysteries, but I have really eclectic taste in books so I also enjoy many other genres.

I'm from San Francisco, USA, on Pacific/Goodreads time.

Bandmama (aka Lucy) - Claiming Mitch as mine | 121 comments Hello All. My name is Lucy and I have to admit I've been stalking you guys for a month or so. I grew up on Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys books so I've always loved a good mystery. Over the last year or two I've started migrating more and more to a cozy mystery style of writing. Like so many others Joanne Fluke was my first and I've got many more books to read to catch up on that series. I've also enjoyed Cleo Coyle's Coffee House Series, Laura Child's Tea Shop Murders and Charlaine Harris' Aurora Teagarden. Reading through all of your comments though my goodness it's like Cozy Heaven in here! What to get next? Juliet Blackwell, Bailey Cates, Earlene Fowler, Melissa Ramirez. I am a Nook junkie but may have to plan a HUGE trip to my neighborhood Half-Priced Books soon! I'm looking forward to reading with you all.

Taylor (taylors21) | 18 comments Welcome aboard Lucy! I also read Nancy Drew growing up. Mysteries/suspense and thrillers are my favorite types of books to read!
They sell used books for like $1, or even less at a book store in Marshfield! I used to go there every weekend! Let me know if you want any book recommendations!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Hi Lisa - I recognize you from the librarians group! Welcome! :)

Welcome too, Bandmama! :)

Bandmama (aka Lucy) - Claiming Mitch as mine | 121 comments Thank you Taylor. I'm always open for recommendations! I read J.A. Jance novels for years - all of her series are excellent along with Patricia Cornwell and James Patterson until I sort of scared myself late one night lol. Half-Priced Books is pretty close to $1 a paperback (sometimes a little more). My problem is I've become a Nook snob but, so far, several of the series I'm reading or want to read aren't available yet in e-reader format.

message 2206: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Thank you, Jennifer. Yes, I recognize you from I think Librarians and Feedback.

Do you ever check books out of the library? I have a Kindle, I still rent out books though. Kindle books can be expensive!

Bandmama (aka Lucy) - Claiming Mitch as mine | 121 comments For Taylor -

Yes I'm very fortunate to have several decent libraries nearby. I'm going to have to fill in Laura Child's Tea Shop Series this way because only books One,Two,and Three are available in the series before it jumps to book 7 or 8 in e-reader format. It's all good :)

message 2209: by Taylor (new)

Taylor (taylors21) | 18 comments For Bandmama-

I just googled her Agony of the Leaves book, that sounds good. I may look into reading those.

Also, you should rea The Tea Rose series by Jennifer Donnelly. Really good books. There are 3 in the series.

Beth | 616 comments Wow, lots of newbies since I checked this topic! Welcome to the group, Lucy, Lisa, Bruce, Stephen, Sylvia, and Taylor! And Lucy, group stalking is most welcome, as is topic stalking. Just don't let it get personal. ;-)

Of course you are long-winded! (We all are, especially in first drafts, and what else is a post here?) And I'm with Beth - a lot of newbies since I checked too. Welcome all.

Don't worry Beth. I won't stalk too much without chiming in. You are such a sweet group that it's difficult not to say something and be a part of it every now and then :-).

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) Thanks for the welcome, Beth.

message 2215: by Raane3yahoo.com (new)

Raane3yahoo.com Hello, I'm Christine. This is the first group I have joined. I do love the cozies, and when I saw your very inviting image, I knew I'd have to join!

I live in New England and our New England winters are custom made for cozies and hot chocolate!

message 2216: by Vera (last edited Jan 30, 2013 07:14PM) (new)

Vera M. Hello, I'm Vera, i live in rochester, NY and I love goodreads, it has given me so many more authors to check out. I do like all kinds of suspense, romance, mystery type books and I love the cozy mysteries. When I saw the line about the coffee/tea/cocoa and a dog/cat I thought this is a great group! And then I saw what u have for the January read and had to join.

message 2217: by Diane (new)

Diane Vallere Hi, I'm Diane. I've been a GR member for a few years now but am just discovering the groups now. Like Bandmama, I grew up with child sleuths. Mine were Trixie Belden, Connie Blair, and the Three Investigators (to this day I believe any junk yard hides a trailer called "Headquarters"). I rediscovered my love of mysteries when I read One for the Money and now split my time between reading and writing cozies humorous mystery series.

Taylor (taylors21) | 18 comments Welcome Christine, Vera and Diane! Looking forward to discussing books with all of you!

Terri (mrsjtbrown) | 12 comments Hi everyone! My name is Terri. I just joined Goodreads a few days ago. I joined this group today. I live in Thomasville, NC. I'm married to a wonderful man and we have 3 children. Two boys age 17 and 2 1/2 and a girl that is 12. I enjoy reading different types of books. I mustly read horror, mystery and thriller. I look forward to all the great things to come from joining this group and Goodreaders.

Bandmama (aka Lucy) - Claiming Mitch as mine | 121 comments Hi Terri. Wow 17, 2 1/2 and 12. What a group you've got going there. Mine are 19 and 14 so I can talk, right?

message 2222: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi everyone. I started posting in this group without introducing myself. My name is Vicky. I live in Washington state. I use to read a variety of books however for some reason lately I seem to prefer mysteries. I tend to prefer the lighter types versus really violent ones so I joined this group.

Hi Bandmama! Well, my youngest was a complete surprise. After Abby, I got sick and found out I had a rare bladder condition that has no cure. We were told there was no way I could have any more children. We were told that in 2006. I had to stop working and go on disability. (I wasn't happy about that, but between the pain and medicine, I had no choice.)
Well in October 2009, I found out I was pregnant. Talk about a miracle!

Oh my gosh yes a miracle! You doing OK or better now? Just goes to show that sometimes the Big Man upstairs knows a little more than the doctors do huh? That's an awesome story.

Welcome, Vicky. If you prefer "light mysteries" you've come to the right place! Your TBR (that's To Be Read) pile will grow exponentially based on recommendations here. It's true what they say, so many books so little time!

I am a HUGE fan of cozies and am aspiring to write in that genre as soon as I get over my insecurities with the "blank page". I am excited to join this group. Thank you.

Welcome to the group LaurenAnn. I wish you the best of luck with your writing! When you do get your book written, I'm sure a lot of people in this group, including myself, would love to read it.

LaurenAnn, echoing the "welcomes" and a reminder to you that every single author since the beginning of time started with a blank page! it is easily conquered by simply typing. You can always delete it later. In fact, I have more in my "deleted" file than I do in my finished works. Good luck!

Out of curiosity, who are your favorite cozy authors?

message 2231: by Vera (new)

Vera M. Yes just write and write whatever comes to mind. There always editing to go back and add, delete, change something later. And just writing it lets the story unfold itself and maybe spark more ideas. Sometimes I do a separate thing where I'll write some ideas, or something about a character to get ideas or even just a poem or something just to get my creative juices flowing :) and I am sure many of us would love to read your book! Always looking for new authors to read :)

message 2232: by Jennifer (last edited Feb 07, 2013 08:13AM) (new)

Jennifer Oko (jenniferoko) Hi, I am an author of a new mystery novel Head Case that fits the "cozy" genre well, but it wasn't until very recently that I even knew the genre existed! So, a happy meeting of the pages, so to speak. I look forward to hearing about other great books, and of course hope you might check out mine as well.
Other than my own book, I've always loved a nice Agatha Christie, and some of my more contemporary favorites include all of Lisa Lutz's work: The Spellman Files, and Gone Girl (not sure how Cozy that one is, though). I am about to read Front Page Fatality.
Thanks!

Alicia (AtlantiaReads) (orangepeacock313) | 3 comments Hi,
My name is Alicia and me and my mom are just starting a book blog dedicated to reviewing Cozy Mysteries! I have read a couple Cozies and really enjoyed them so I saw this as a great way to start reading more of them. I came across this group when I was searching Cozy Mysteries on Google. I'm really glad I found this group cause it looks like a great community and I can't wait to get involved! :)

If anyone is interested you can check out my blog at

Robin Nolet | 33 comments I think aside from Austen, mysteries are my favorite genre, cozy included. A few of my favorite authors include Robert Parker (great dialogue!), Dick Francis (the master of short and sweet descriptions), PD James(the BEST...I NEVER know who did it until the end!),Janet Evanovich(Jersey girl), Rita Mae Brown(love the animals!), Diane Mott Davidson(love the food!), CJ Box (it's beautiful-and scary-in the mountains!)Also curious why readers like particular books and authors.

message 2235: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Welcome Robin - like your list of favorites! I am also a Dick Francis fan - I like the fact that most of his books are stand-alones, and all the different ways horses play a role in the lives of the characters.

message 2236: by Robin (new)

Robin Nolet | 33 comments Agreed,Leslie! And I am not a 'horse person', so at first I wasn't sure I would enjoy them, but it didn't matter. In fact, discovering the horse world was a nice little extra along with the murder!

message 2237: by MaryJo (new)

MaryJo Dawson | 857 comments you can add me to the list of admirers of Dick Francis' talent. although I didn't subscribe to his philosphy all the time, his heroes were very admirable, his plots fascinating, and just generally he wrote a great story.
did you like the later ones in colaboration with his son as well?

Leslie MaryJo wrote: "you can add me to the list of admirers of Dick Francis' talent. although I didn't subscribe to his philosphy all the time, his heroes were very admirable, his plots fascinating, and just generally..."

I thought they were enjoyable but not as good as the earlier ones.

message 2239: by MaryJo (new)

MaryJo Dawson | 857 comments Leslie, you and I agree on the colaboration novels between Dick Francis and his son, not quite as good.
Dick Francis died a couple of years ago.... lived to be over eighty.

Jennifer (jenn214571) | 9 comments Hi, I'm Jennifer and I'm a bookaholic :-)

I have been reading the discussions boards here for the last couple of weeks, so I figured should introduce myself.

Currently I am recovering from ankle surgery, so I have had lots of free time on my hands to read. I have picked up a lot of new books that I discovered due to this group so thank you for pointing me towards more great books.

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Welcome Jennifer!
