Elizabeth (nursenell) | 22 comments I joined Goodreads last January. I'm new to cozy mysteries this year. My gateway author was Nancy Atherton and her Aunt Dimity series. I've added Elaine Viets' dead end job, and mystery shopper series recently. I would like to add more authors this year.

My home state is NJ but I've been in the midwest more than half my life now. I lived in the Twin Cities for 23 years, and moved to the Northwoods of WI this past June.

I have 5 cats: Wexford, Kilkenny, Donegal, Galway, and Cork.

I'm a writer and an editor. I live in the Sarasota, Florida, area with my husband and my mews, our black cat, Maeve. I love books with cats in them. Any suggestions?

Patricia, I love cats too. You might try reading The Big Kitty, first in a new series. Also there's the "Cat in the Stacks" series, one of which is File M for Murder. Another cat series is the Black Cat Bookshop Mysteries, the first of which is Double-Booked for Death. I enjoyed all of these.

amen, sister! coffee is not bad for most of us, either. it is known to decrease active diabetes and gall bladder disease. nothing against you tea drinkers, mind. there is great tea out there, too, and I do trade off for a nice chai or rasberry now and then.

Susan | 44 comments Hello everyone, I am new to Cozy Mysteries, doing a 2013 Cozy Mystery challenge. My name is Susan by the way. Have gotten a few books downloaded and ready to go, can't wait to find out what good books there are in the group!

message 2159: by Louise (new)

Louise | 8 comments To the cat lovers -- I have four cats, Allegro (Allie), Babes, Gingerita and Poohbah and one Pembroke Welsh corgi, Mr Darcy! I first got interested in corgis because of the Rita Mae Brown Mrs Murphy series, so don't forget to check that out if you like cats (& dogs) and mysteries. Sometimes she writes a book that's a dud, so do try more than one of her books or start at the beginning. But most are a lot of fun!

Lynx (lynxreads) Hello Everyone! My name is Lynx, I'm an aspiring cozy mystery writer and film nerd. The great Agatha Christie started me when I was just a little girl and I've expanded from there. My favorites to read are any that take place from the Twenties to the Sixties, If anyone has any recommendations I'd love to hear them - especially ones taking place in the 196O's. Also a huge Old Hollywood fan and love reading autobiographies. Always love good conversation and can't wait to participate in the group! Happy New Year Everyone!

Rosemary Martin had a short-lived series with 3 books that took place in the '60s. The series was called "Murder-A-Go-Go" and the books were: It's a Mod, Mod, Mod, Mod Murder (Murder a-Go-Go, #1) by Rosemary Martin , Twist and Shout Murder (Murder A-Go-Go, #2) by Rosemary Martin and Secret Agent Girl (Murder A-Go-Go, #3) by Rosemary Martin .

Oh, I was born in Sarasota, went to high school there and lived just about my entire life just south. I love Sarasota! :) Am also a slave to my two cats and enjoy cozies with cats in them (although I can't get into the talking cats...). I'd recommend the series that starts with Curiosity Thrilled the Cat.

Beth | 616 comments I haven't checked this topic in a couple of weeks, with all the holiday doings, so I'm waaay behind on my welcomes. Welcome, Lynx, Alondra, Susan, Patricia, Elizabeth, Catherine, Cindy, Louise, Kristin, Kiersten, Rebecca, and Carol! Whew, lots of new members!

Cindy, I recommend Margaret Coel and Sandy Ault, western writers, to you.
Louise, I recommend historical mystery author Rhys Bowen for you.
And, for those of you looking for new-to-you mystery authors, I hope you'll check out my own two series.

Happy new year to you all!

message 2170: by Erica (new)

Erica | 1 comments Hi Everyone,

I'm Erica, and I was excited to find this group. I like to read lots of things, and cozy mysteries are definitely high on the list! My favorite authors (in no particular order) are Leslie Meier, Joanne Fluke, the Murder She Wrote series, and a new series I've recently happened upon by Elizabeth Duncan. I also really really love Margaret Maron, though she's not a cozy writer. And I'm not opposed to reading the Higgins Clark ladies either. I'm looking forward to finding out about new authors. Lately I've been looking for non-food based cozy's, so I'll be looking out for those titles.

message 2171: by Beth (new)

Beth | 616 comments Welcome to the group, Erica! I, too, like Margaret Maron's mysteries. You'll soon have a very long to-read list from becoming a member of this group. ;-)

message 2173: by Alannah (new)

Alannah Davis (catgirl02) | 23 comments Hello everyone! I've been hanging around the group for awhile now, so I figured it's about time to introduce myself. I'm Alannah, a mystery fanatic ever since I was old enough to pick up my first Nancy Drew. I live right in between Milwaukee and Chicago with my two cats, Cinica and Jake. My favorite overall mystery author is Ellery Queen; favorite cozy authors are Susan Wittig Albert, Carolyn Hart, Joan Hess, and Lilian Jackson Braun.

As for coffee, I don't drink it regularly. I'm a little weird about coffee. I won't pay for it, but I'll drink it if someone treats me or offers it to me at their home. Strange, I know. Especially considering how much money I spend on Coca-Cola. ;-)

I don't like coffee, but I'm definitely a "Coke-a-holic"!

message 2176: by Emilia (new)

Emilia (bookbug2012) | 20 comments Hi Everyone:)
My name is Emilia, and I just recently discovered that the books I am reading since I was a kid are called "cosy/cozy mysteries"... well, better late than never I guess... my excuse is the fact that English is my second language, I started reading books in English just about 3-4 years ago...
anyways - I always loved that light type of mysteries, where there is a puzzle to solve and you can still have lots of laughter throughout the book :)
as to the favourite beverage - coffee, but... also a good cup of tea (green or white ;) ).

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Welcome Emilia! And Alannah, and Erica!

I can't stand coffee and stay away from soda, but I drink iced tea constantly - so much so that my ice maker can't actually keep up with me. :)

I love love love this series. I liked the first one, but I remember thinking the plot was kinda weird. Like most series, they get better with each book. (IMO)

what tea do you use for your iced tea? :) it works great with all sorts of green teas for me :) or white+fruit tea. just for me it is more summer drink ;)

I grew up on black tea on ice. I think I've had iced green tea before, but never white. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the fruit flavored ones - the times I've tried them they tasted too perfume-y?

Anyhoo, I pretty much just drink iced black tea - sometimes with fresh mint from my garden and never with lemon. Oh, and lightly sweetened with steevia (also in my garden). :)

I can't stand those that do not have actual dried fruit or nuts in it but have some fake aroma instead... but the good green (or white ;) ) tea - delicious :D summertime I make it with honey (or maple syrup) and ice - kids love it :D

message 2184: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melanieeastwood) My name is Melanie and I am into cozy mysteries with the sleuth being around 30ish. I am 36! :) I also love a little romance. Faves include: Stephanie Bond, Camilla Chafer, Gemma Halliday and my all time favorite character is Hannah Swenson. (Joanne Fluke) Fluke was the first cozy author I read, so she must remain my fave, although I am really into the romance mystery genre. Would love author suggestions!

Estelle Landry Hi! My name is Estelle and I love cozy mysteries. Can't wait to read your comments and your book recommendations :D

message 2186: by Jayne (new)

Jayne Ormerod | 11 comments I joined Goodreads last year but rarely checked in. But my New Year's Resolution for 2013 is to embrace Goodreads and all it has to offer.

I am a cozy mystery reader in a literary-fiction-loving world. I'm so happy to find others who share my interests. I hope to learn of new authors out there.

The cozies I have on my keeper shelf include Janet Evanovich, Lisa Lutz, Rhys Bowen, MC Beaton, Mary Daheim, Lillian Jackson Braun (well, her old stuff) and of course the entire Miss Marple collection by Agatha Christie. And I do have books 1-21 of the original Nancy Drew stories.

I also write humorous cozy mysteries, and many of the above mentioned authors have influenced my writing.

I live in Norfolk, Virginia where we are settling in after 19 moves in conjunction with my husband's career in the US Navy.

I look forward to getting to know you better. And, of course, adding to my TBR pile!

Death of a Hot Chick My protagonist is 29, recently widowed by the death of the rat, trying to ignore both a previous boyfriend and a ghost who wants to know who killed her.

message 2197: by Sylvia (new)

Sylvia Nash (sylviaanash) | 22 comments Hello. I'm new to "Cozy Mysteries" and sort of new to Goodreads. I posted a review last February, and then my mom's health plummeted. I began to get back to "things" around Oct-Nov but not to Goodreads yet.

I came back to Goodreads finally so I could start posting reviews again and saw they had author profiles (yes, I'm a new author), so I spent time getting that going.

Then I saw Goodreads had Groups. I know, I'm really behind in a lot of ways. Anyway, I decided I should belong to at least one group. I try to be careful about what I take on because of my caregiving responsibilities. When I saw Cozy Mysteries, I knew that had to be the one.

I'm not sure if I write cozies because that's what I read or vice versa. I just know I love cozies. I read other things to--thrillers, suspense, even an occasional romance (but I prefer it has some kind of mystery or suspense to it). But cozies are my preference.

I hail from West Tennessee but have lived in East Tennesse, Michigan, and California. I love my little corner of the world.

That's probably more than I should write--I tend to be longwinded sometimes--so I'll stop for now. I am looking forward to being a part of this group--especially as I noticed several of my favorite authors in other Intros as well.
