Introduce yourself - archived

My home state is NJ but I've been in the midwest more than half my life now. I lived in the Twin Cities for 23 years, and moved to the Northwoods of WI this past June.
I have 5 cats: Wexford, Kilkenny, Donegal, Galway, and Cork.

I'm a writer and an editor. I live in the Sarasota, Florida, area with my husband and my mews, our black cat, Maeve. I love books with cats in them. Any suggestions?

Patricia, I love cats too. You might try reading The Big Kitty, first in a new series. Also there's the "Cat in the Stacks" series, one of which is File M for Murder. Another cat series is the Black Cat Bookshop Mysteries, the first of which is Double-Booked for Death. I enjoyed all of these.

Love hazelnut... Really love all kinds of coffee! nothing like coffee and a good book!!"
amen, sister! coffee is not bad for most of us, either. it is known to decrease active diabetes and gall bladder disease. nothing against you tea drinkers, mind. there is great tea out there, too, and I do trade off for a nice chai or rasberry now and then.

You've come to the right place, Alondra! We love to talk about mysteries ~

Rosemary Martin had a short-lived series with 3 books that took place in the '60s. The series was called "Murder-A-Go-Go" and the books were:

Thank you, I read those a few years back! There the only ones I managed to find in that decade, I was hoping to find some more!

Oh, I was born in Sarasota, went to high school there and lived just about my entire life just south. I love Sarasota! :) Am also a slave to my two cats and enjoy cozies with cats in them (although I can't get into the talking cats...). I'd recommend the series that starts with Curiosity Thrilled the Cat.

George Baxt also has an Old Hollywood S..."
Thank you!!! I've gotta check out Kaminisky's ones! I've read one George Baxt and want to check out his others but I've found them really hard to come by.

Cindy, I recommend Margaret Coel and Sandy Ault, western writers, to you.
Louise, I recommend historical mystery author Rhys Bowen for you.
And, for those of you looking for new-to-you mystery authors, I hope you'll check out my own two series.
Happy new year to you all!

I'm Erica, and I was excited to find this group. I like to read lots of things, and cozy mysteries are definitely high on the list! My favorite authors (in no particular order) are Leslie Meier, Joanne Fluke, the Murder She Wrote series, and a new series I've recently happened upon by Elizabeth Duncan. I also really really love Margaret Maron, though she's not a cozy writer. And I'm not opposed to reading the Higgins Clark ladies either. I'm looking forward to finding out about new authors. Lately I've been looking for non-food based cozy's, so I'll be looking out for those titles.

As for coffee, I don't drink it regularly. I'm a little weird about coffee. I won't pay for it, but I'll drink it if someone treats me or offers it to me at their home. Strange, I know. Especially considering how much money I spend on Coca-Cola. ;-)

I don't like coffee, but I'm definitely a "Coke-a-holic"!

My name is Emilia, and I just recently discovered that the books I am reading since I was a kid are called "cosy/cozy mysteries"... well, better late than never I guess... my excuse is the fact that English is my second language, I started reading books in English just about 3-4 years ago...
anyways - I always loved that light type of mysteries, where there is a puzzle to solve and you can still have lots of laughter throughout the book :)
as to the favourite beverage - coffee, but... also a good cup of tea (green or white ;) ).

I can't stand coffee and stay away from soda, but I drink iced tea constantly - so much so that my ice maker can't actually keep up with me. :)

I love love love this series. I liked the first one, but I remember thinking the plot was kinda weird. Like most series, they get better with each book. (IMO)

what tea do you use for your iced tea? :) it works great with all sorts of green teas for me :) or white+fruit tea. just for me it is more summer drink ;)

I grew up on black tea on ice. I think I've had iced green tea before, but never white. I have to say I'm not a huge fan of the fruit flavored ones - the times I've tried them they tasted too perfume-y?
Anyhoo, I pretty much just drink iced black tea - sometimes with fresh mint from my garden and never with lemon. Oh, and lightly sweetened with steevia (also in my garden). :)

I can't stand those that do not have actual dried fruit or nuts in it but have some fake aroma instead... but the good green (or white ;) ) tea - delicious :D summertime I make it with honey (or maple syrup) and ice - kids love it :D

I am a cozy mystery reader in a literary-fiction-loving world. I'm so happy to find others who share my interests. I hope to learn of new authors out there.
The cozies I have on my keeper shelf include Janet Evanovich, Lisa Lutz, Rhys Bowen, MC Beaton, Mary Daheim, Lillian Jackson Braun (well, her old stuff) and of course the entire Miss Marple collection by Agatha Christie. And I do have books 1-21 of the original Nancy Drew stories.
I also write humorous cozy mysteries, and many of the above mentioned authors have influenced my writing.
I live in Norfolk, Virginia where we are settling in after 19 moves in conjunction with my husband's career in the US Navy.
I look forward to getting to know you better. And, of course, adding to my TBR pile!
Melanie wrote: "My name is Melanie and I am into cozy mysteries with the sleuth being around 30ish. I am 36! :) I also love a little romance. Faves include: Stephanie Bond, Camilla Chafer, Gemma Halliday and..." Since you invited author suggesions, I'd like to suggest one of my mysteries,
Death of a Hot Chick My protagonist is 29, recently widowed by the death of the rat, trying to ignore both a previous boyfriend and a ghost who wants to know who killed her.
(I hope it's okay to mention this.)

Welcome Jayne! I think it is really great, in spite of moving so much, that you have a cozy mystery library of your own especially Agatha Christie. :-D Welcome to the group!

Welcome Taylor! :-D

I came back to Goodreads finally so I could start posting reviews again and saw they had author profiles (yes, I'm a new author), so I spent time getting that going.
Then I saw Goodreads had Groups. I know, I'm really behind in a lot of ways. Anyway, I decided I should belong to at least one group. I try to be careful about what I take on because of my caregiving responsibilities. When I saw Cozy Mysteries, I knew that had to be the one.
I'm not sure if I write cozies because that's what I read or vice versa. I just know I love cozies. I read other things to--thrillers, suspense, even an occasional romance (but I prefer it has some kind of mystery or suspense to it). But cozies are my preference.
I hail from West Tennessee but have lived in East Tennesse, Michigan, and California. I love my little corner of the world.
That's probably more than I should write--I tend to be longwinded sometimes--so I'll stop for now. I am looking forward to being a part of this group--especially as I noticed several of my favorite authors in other Intros as well.
