Candace Carter | 0 comments Hello! I'm new here and happy to join other cozy mystery readers. I enjoy reading Caroline Graham (DCI Barnaby), Louise Penny (Inspector Gamache), Cynthia Harrod-Eagles (Bill Slider), G.M. Malliet (DCI St. Just), Ann Granger (Markby/Mitchell), Ngaio Marsh (Inspector Alleyn), Agatha Christie (of course!), Jacqueline Winspear (Maisie Dobbs), and the list goes on. I prefer English mysteries but do read others.

Welcome Ursula. Also Erin - the cozy mystery has one section where author members sign in (a good place to discover new ones). Damaskcat (did I get that right?) I much prefer cozy over violence too. I especially hate being in the villain's viewpoint. Welcome Lisa from Provo. Also Candace. Do you like historical English mysteries? I've just discovered author Charles Finch with his laid-back style, very English.

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments Welcome to Ursula, Erin, Damaskcat, Lisa, and Candance.

I don't choose to read many thrillers because of the graphic violence. Lisa, I lived in the Provo/Orem areas for 35 years and have a daughter who is living in Spanish Fork (a really small town). I enjoy the Cynthia Harrod-Eagles historical Moreland series. I think I'm on 20 something. Only recently did I realize how many English mysteries I read during the year. Nearly a third of all my books :). You'll all find lots of books to feed your cozy reading habit. Happy reading and sharing.

Candace Carter | 0 comments Thanks for the welcome! Norma, I do read some historical English cozies. I'll check out the author you mentioned.

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Hi everyone, I have been a cozy mystery reader for years, and have been on this goodreads site for a few years now. My favorite authors are M. C. Beaton, Sue Grafton, to name a few. I too, despise graphic depictions of violence in any form in mysteries.

Kelly (kellyjp) | 4 comments My name is Kelly and some of my favorite cozy mystery writers are; Diane Mott Davidson, Kate Collins, Leslie Meier, Dorothy Howell, Lorna Barrett, Karen E. Olson and JoAnna Carl. Always looking for new authors to read.

M C Beaton is one of my favourite authors. I have yet to try Sue Grafton but have A is for Alibi in my Kindle.

Thanks for the welcome - I'm sure I'm going to love it here. :-)

Dave Newell (davenewell) Hi everyone! I'm still fairly new to Goodreads. I enjoy a good mystery, but I'm particularly interested in them now I've written a Hitchcock-style mystery. I'm still in the editing phase of it, but it's been a very fun experience.

Looking forward to connecting with all of you and looking at your recommendations!

Hi Cheryl! I am new to the group too but Welcome! We have something in common other than our new group......I grew up and graduated from high school in Lincoln Park, Downriver Detroit (many years ago). Sharon

Cathy Spencer (cm_spencer) | 38 comments Hi All. My name is Cathy and I'm from Calgary, Alberta. I like the mystery classic authors such as Agatha Christie and Dorothy Sayers (I'm a big Peter Wimsey fan), plus lots of newer authors, such as Robert B. Parker, Elizabeth Peters, and Janet Evanovich. Has there been discussion of Ms. Evanovich's "One for the Money?" I liked Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum, and while I'm a Debbie Reyonold's fan, I just didn't see her as the grandmother. Anyway, I'm a little confused about how this site works.

message 2020: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Spencer (cm_spencer) | 38 comments Hi - it's Catherine again. I've just been reading back through some of the posts and see that other people enjoy the British cozy. Has anyone found any new authors comparable to Agatha Christie or Dorothy Sayers?

message 2021: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Welcome to all the new members :)

Cathy - I think it takes a bit of practice to get used to the site but once you do it will feel easy to navigate. I'd recommend just poking around - you'll find lots of recommendations for new books to try.

Lori | 11 comments My name is Lori and I enjoy a good cozy mystery! I may have already introduced myself and forgotten. I'm going through a phase where I am trying out many different cozy authors, and this group has helped me choose them by reading some of the comments here. My all-time favorite contemporary cozy writer is Anne George (RIP). Some others include recent finds--Ellery Adams, Jenn McKinlay, and Lorna Barrett (also L.L. Bartlett).

Glad to meet you, Isabele. You sound like the kind of person I would like to be.

message 2030: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 1 comments I don't think I've ever introduced myself. I've been a mystery reader for 35 years and love Elizabeth Peters, Laurie King, Elizabeth George, Dorothy Sayers, and on and on and on. I'd never considered the category "cozy" until 20 years ago when in New York I bought my mother a birthday gift of a new mystery a month from a now defunct (sadly) mystery bookstore and the owner asked me about genre. A defining moment!! It also turns out Mom likes her mysteries higher on the challenge scale than I do (who knew!!).

Love discovering new authors especially mystery writers. Your book club caught my attention straight away. Can't wait to get stuck into all those recommended reads and hopefully make some new freinds!

message 2034: by Nathania (new)

Nathania Ma (nanyahime) Hi, my name is Nathania and I love murder mysteries and young adult novels. I'm wondering if anyone can recommend some good cozy mysteries with main characters in their late teens or early twenties?

message 2035: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Nathania -- There is the Nancy Drew series by Caroline Keene - I particularly like the older editions (they have been rewritten over the years).
A lot of Mary Stewart's heroines are in their early 20's.

I saw an advertisement on Goodreads site for one that falls into the YA (young adult) category. The title is "Unspoken" and the author is Sarah Rees Brennan. I don't read the YA books but I have to say, I want to read this one. You may find it interesting. I have seen many posts on the cozy site referring to the YA category so you may want to browse through the past posts & scan them for those that read YA and liked them.

message 2044: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi. My name is Elaina. I discovered a love for mysteries when I picked up the first book in the In Death series. Now I'm continuously on a search for more.

message 2045: by Sue (new)

I read a fair amount of YA, but I mostly prefer my YA to be urban fantasy so if there's a mystery as part of the story it's usually secondary.

Hi,
Harlan Coban has written Shelter - YA mystery. To check the book trailer to see if its' cozy enough , you can visit his website.Coban usaully writes adult novels -most of his Bolitar novels would probably classify as cozy.

Stephen Kaminski | 13 comments Hi all,

I just joined goodreads. I live in Arlington, VA (US) and my favorite cozy author is M.C. Beaton.

My first cozy was just published but I'll save promo for a later date when I'm a bit more established and I'll put it in the proper folder.

This group seems wonderful!

I love Coben's Myron Bolitar books, but would never consider them "cozy". Absolutely nothing "cozy" about Win!! LOL
