Hi: I am kind of new to this type introduction, but as an author, writer, retired professor, Doctor of Chiropractics, and Grandfather, I am thrilled to below to this group. I hope I can contribute and wanted to introduce my mystery books: Moochie's Place and The Blankenschipf Curse to the members.

Thanks. Jim Murdock

Silvia | 1 comments Hi, I'm Silvia from New York. My first Cozy was Dorothy Cannell "The Thin Woman" then I discovered Agatha Raisin (which to date is my all time favorite character) in MC Beaton's "Quiche of Death". My favorites are the English Mysteries.

I love cozies because they give me the suspense without the gore. My family recently took a trip to London and my daughter surprised me with a day trip to the Cotswold. I was so excited it was as though I was going to meet up with an old friend. Its so funny the murder plot in these books are interesting but the relationships, and sense of community these books portray is what really keeps me coming back.

Tina | 12 comments Hi, my name is Tina. I love cozy mysteries and am a big fan of culinary mysteries and any cozies that have to do with book stores and books and libraries. Please add me if you love to read cozies like I do. I'm always looking for new cozies and cozy mystery authors.

Stephanie | 2 comments Hi everyone. I've been a cozy mystery reader for several years now. My mom has read mysteries as long as I can remember (about 2 a week). Though not as avid as my mother I still manage to find time to read between taking care of my three daughters ages 7, 3 and 6 months. My favorite authors are Cleo Coyle (Alice Kimberly), Maggie Sefton, Joanne Fluke, Lori Avocato, the list goes on. I live in a small town and usually have to request for books to be sent to my library so I'm always looking for new authors to try. In fact, my 7 year old just started on her first mystery book!

Cata Hi! I'm Catarina and I am 20-years-old. From this gener, the only books I've read were written by Agatha Chritie- I just love her and still have plenty of her books to read ^^

Nice to meet you all :)

Hi Stephanie,

If you like Maggie Sefton, you will probably like Mary Kruger and Sally Goldenbaum. One of my all time favorites is Tim Myers. If you have a Nook, I would be happy to lend you some cozy mysteries.

There are several authors I like for culinary mysteries. Have you tried Livia J. Washburn, Miranda Bliss, Joanna Fluke, Claudia Bishop, Tamar Myers, or Diane Motts Davidson?

message 1964: by Joanna (new)

Joanna | 8 comments Hi, I'm Joanna, and I've read mysteries since I was about 8 years old starting with Trixie Belden, The Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew. Currently, I enjoy Jacqueline Winspear's Maisie Dobbs, MC Beaton's Agatha Raisin (she's some kind of nut, isn't she?), Rhys Bowen's Molly Murphy and Royal Spyness series and have more recently found Alice Duncan's Daisy Gumm series and Carola Dunn's Daisy Dalrymple. As you can tell I lean toward the British cosies. Daisy Gumm as an American series is a bit refreshing and the books aren't quite as mysterious. There is a debate in the reviews if they are really mysteries or just what.

I've read many others as well, but too many to list here.

Hi, Jim, Silvia, Josephine, Tina, Stephanie, Traci, Catarina, and Joanna. (Whew, a lot of new ones.) Jim and everyone looking for new authors - there's a discussion especially for authors to introduce themselves. Good place to find new ones to read. Stephanie, you can download a free Kindle or Nook on your computer and get books through their sites, or through smashwords.com. Many are $2.99 or less. Of course, it's always nice to add books to the public library.

message 1966: by Marshall (new)

Marshall Chamberlain | 3 comments Hello, Marshall Chamberlain here, just starting to get serious about exposing my thrillers to readers. For the last fourteen years I've elected to write rather than market. But with my new thriller, "The Apothecary", in the editing process, I'm going all in. I'll be busy with the editing and developing an Internet Fiction Book Promotion Plan to launch the new novel near year's end.

All my works are mysteries at their heart, flavored by a little "Indian Jones", and I'm told some of Nelson DeMille's style may have crept in. There's also a scent of Michael Crichton present. Please check out my website for excerpts, synopses and book trailers at http://www.gracepublishing.org.

Cheers !

Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Hi Joanna and welcome :) Have you read any of M.C. Beathon's Hamish McBeth series set in the Scottish Highlands? I love those! I haven't read any of her Agatha Raisin series yet. Our reading tastes sound very alike - I enjoy Jacqueline Winspear and Rhys Bownen's series that you mentioned as well. I'll look at the Daisy Gumm series - thanks for the tip!
Caroline

Yes, I have read Hamish McBeth books but not them all. My mother really liked them so I have quite a few at my house now that she's passed away. My husband and I also watched from Netflix the BBC or ITV show based on them. Hamish can be a bit bizarre but Agatha is even more eccentric and not very nice at all sometimes.

Sharon Michael | 92 comments Joanna and Marshall, glad to meet both of you.

Joanna, you may be interested in a new cozy author/series I've found and like very much, the Corinna Chapman series by Kerry Greenwood, which starts with Earthly DelightsGreat characters and interesting plotlines that avoid the 'dumb blonde' syndrome (you know, the dizty blonde that always opens the door into the cellar after she's told not to!) For an atypical British cozy you may want to add the Miss Seeton books by Heron Carvic to your list, very British . They are a stand-by re-read for me and I still giggle at the opening scene in the first bookPicture Miss Seeton every time, a true classic!

Marshall, your books sound as if they would be very much in the A/A line that I like, always looking for action/archaelogy/alien storylines. The Indiana Jones movies are among the handful of movies I've liked in the last 20 years or so and I've always been an Alastair MacLean and Desmond Bagley fan. Was very pleased to see that The Ice Cap and the Rift is currently a free download.

message 1971: by Cassie (new)

Cassie Hi everybody!

I'm Cassie, and I have been sampling many different cozy mystery series in the last couple of years. I read many other genres, particularly history and classic fiction, but really anything. Outside of books, I love taking care of my dogs, and also occasionally my friend's dogs if she and her husband are out of town. I also like to try new recipes, and volunteer at the historical society in town. Looking forward to lots of great book chats!

Sharon Michael | 92 comments Nice to meet you Cassie. If you like dogs, you may like the cozy I just finished A Shot in the Bark by C.A. Newsome first book by the author and first of a series, I believe. The author gets her 'dog details' right, which I do notice as I'm a 20-year veteran of dog shows and dog training.

Two additional books that I've liked very much with a dog related theme, though more in the mystery/thriller genre with a bit of supernatural, are by Iris Johansen, Dark Summer and The Search

aprill (seaisme) Hi! I'm Sabrina but I prefer Aprill (it's my nickname). The name Sabrina's too girly, that's why. But I do love the witch stuff. I'm 20yo, from the Philippines. I just graduated college, and I read random books since I was a little kiddo. I buy books every time I pass by a bookstore (literally). We have a library at home and I just love reading 'cause it takes me to another world and the characters keep me company. (PS: also looking for friends; I'm the only girl in our generation in our family tree, literally, no brothers/ male cousins; and books and mirrors and dogs are my best buds at home. See how much a loner I am?) :)

Welcome, Aprill. I did some humanitarian work in the Philippines during 2008-09 in Quezon City, Rizal, and San Jose. Had an interesting time. Read alot of books about the country then and was glad I finished the last (then) Twilight book that was out. Beautiful people with big smiles and very polite and friendly.

Nicole Hello everyone.
I am Nicole, 36 years old and living in Germany.
I love to read since I started school. And just like Dipanjan I don't like libraries but have to own the books. But thanks to Kindle I do not need an extra apartment for my books.
I love cozy mysteries, do not have a particular favourite series but at the moment I love the books by M. C. Beaton most, especially Hamish Macbeth.
Looking forward to find new books to read here.

Nicole I think the 367 books in my flat are enough for now. The only books I always buy are the first editions of Jasper Fforde. These I have to have in my shelf. Everything else either ebook or paperback, whatever is available.

I've recently just hit 1050 physical books (not counting my partners books - I keep threatening to make his 'disappear' to make more room for mine. lol) I've already taken over the 'guest room'... we'll have to build up pretty soon! :D

Damaskcat Hi everyone

I've just joined the group and I love cosy mysteries. I really dislike crime stories where the emphasis is on the violence and the graphic descriptions.
