thanks Marisa, Tammy and Heather for the welcome. Glad to be here. Marisa, you can get an idea of how Victoria Thompson writes by going to amazon.com, put in her name and you can see the reviews for her books. I would definitely start off with her first one. She also has her own website.

@BookWorm - I read the first Kate Daniels and wasn't too impressed (though I can't remember why exactly). Not sure if I want to continue as my TBR pile is way taller than me as it is!

My name is Michelle, and I'm a Jersey girl living in the Southwest. I miss real Italian and Chinese food from back East!
My favorite series right now is the CoffeeHouse Mysteries..they make me feel like I'm home.
This looked like a fun group to join :)

What draws me to traditional mysteries is the feeling I get that, no matter what horrific things happen in the course of the plot, some kind of normalcy is restored at the end. (Unlike what often happens in life!)

Michelle, welcome to you too. You can the girl outta Jersey, but you can't take Jersey outta the girl! :-P
Welcome David. I understand how you feel about normalcy in real life. I would that life were like cozy mysteries (minus the murders, of course).

Hi Mary! Some people don't like the term "cozy" but it's fine by me. Another phrase could be "comfort read" (I heard someone else say that around here).
I think you'll all enjoy this discussion forum. Check out all the topics and just holler if you have questions. : )

When I'm not reading, I work on my beading or on one of the UFOs in my knitting basket. Since I retired a couple of years ago, I have a lot more time to indulge my hobbies.
Hi, Sandra, welcome! I think you an me are alike in readings. I love JAK (I've already pre-ordered her next work as Jayne Castle and I want a dust-bunny), I read a lot of Andre Norton (I fondly remember witch world) and I've been reading a lot of PNR/UF before reading again cozy.
I'm sure your TBR is going to grow a lot (lucky you, you're retired).
I'm sure your TBR is going to grow a lot (lucky you, you're retired).

Unfortunately, my TBR pile is no longer a pile. It's a mountain. Occasionally I clean it out and discover a couple of books I bought a long time ago and never got around to reading.
I did a reread of some of my Andre Norton's, and they held up very well. Her Witch World books were always my favorite.

You will love retirement! I did feel a little weird when the new school year started, and I wasn't a part of it; but I got over that in a hurry. I've read a couple of the Peggy Lee Garden mysteries and enjoyed them, but I haven't tried the new series yet. I guess I'll have to add that to my list. It sounds really interesting.

I have all my Dark Shadows books, too! There are 2 of them that I still pull out and read every now and again. I had the whole set of comic books, too, but finally decided to sell them on eBay a couple of years ago. I was amazed at what they sold for!

Thanks for the kind offer. I had to go out to the mall this morning before I read your message for a lesson on my new IMac (happy dance!), and I stopped at the bookstore before I left. I picked up A Timely Vision along with a Patricia Briggs book. I guess I know what I'm doing tonight!

I picked up a book called The Hob's Bargain by Patricia Briggs (copyright 2001). I have her Cry Wolf. It was okay. I thought I'd try something else by her since everyone seems to love her stuff, but I just haven't gotten that excited about it. The Hob's Bargain sounded interesting enough from the back cover blurb that I was willing to overlook the first person narration which I really don't care for at all. I guess I'll find out.

Oh, and hello new peeps! :)

Welcome Teresa. This is a good place to be if you're not a big reader. This group is fun and everyone is so nice and encouraging in the discussions. Also, there are some cool reading challenges that are going on and that might be fun for you too.
Happy Reading!

I haven't read any of the Stieg Larsson books, but they're popular with a lot of people on my Mystery/Thriller board. They were also the cover story for EW magazine this week.

Oh, and hello new peeps! :)"
No, I haven't read the anthology On the Prowl. When I decided to read Cry Wolf for a challenge, I was advised to read the first story which was in the anthology. And of course, the anthology was nowhere to be found since it had been published the year before. My local UBS hasn't had it in either. I would like to read the short story since it sets up the characters and their situation, but it's not really necessary. And I have been known to read a series totally out of order. It doesn't bother me.

My name is Peg and I recently joined. I live in northern New Jersey. I love reading cozy mysteries and my favorite author is Victoria Thompson. I am presently reading her newest, Murder on Lexington Avenue. Has anyone read her books yet?
