Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Hi -

I just joined and I'm so happy to find this many people who enjoy cozy mysteries too. I love Agatha Christie, M.C. Beaton (especially the Hamish McBeth series)and enjoy Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series. So many more, of course, and I'm always open to new authors. Glad to have found you all ~ Caroline

Duffy Brown | 33 comments I just joined the group too. So thrilled to find you all. Started my mystery reading with Nancy Drew when I was a kid and haven't stopped. Love Sherlock Holmes and thrilled BBC has their new series with contemporary Sherlock and Watson. So much fun. Currently really Threaded for Trouble.

Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Nancy Drew! That made me smile. I have moved so many times over the years and the one thing that has gone everywhere with me is my collection of Nancy Drew books. They've certainly been packed and unpacked many times. :)

message 1904: by Betsy (new)

Betsy (mistymtladi) | 44 comments An interesting tidbit for you... Nancy Drew was written by many authors. One famous cozy writer wrote several books for them. But once she had Nancy cry in her series and was told;" Our Nancy doesn't cry" She then decided to write her own series and the rest is cozy history.

Welcome Duffy and Caroline!

message 1906: by Duffy (new)

Duffy Brown | 33 comments Somehow my Nancy Drew books got lost when my parents moved so now I'm in the process of recollecting the old ones. Fun of visit antique shops when on vacation etc. I even got some with the old dust jackets. Nancy and I spent a lot of summer together and getting the latest ND for Christmas was the best present ever.

Welcome Maribeth and Kate."

Well Sarah Caudwell did briefly introduce the protagonist as 'Harriet', but it is true that she flies by that and doesn't really talk about herself at all.... so she acts as the detective but barely a character in the book... but as you said, it isn't a problem because the puzzle is outside of herself (not directly affecting her life).

I'm behind in saying "Hi" to welcome new ones, so I'll just say, "Hi, All". Great place to be. Good books and good posts on this group.

message 1911: by Wanda (new)

Wanda | 8 comments Hi!!

I'm Wanda and I LOVE mysteries--started with Ellery Queen when I was 10 or 11 and lived next door to our public library. I also Love Agatha Christie (and others that just won't come to mind right now).

message 1912: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Welcome Wanda - Ellery Queen and Agatha Christie were some of my earliest mystery reads as well.

message 1913: by Deb (new)

Deb Fullerton (dfuller401) | 1 comments Hi, I am Deb. I love cozies, especially the funny ones like the Spellman series by Lisa Lutz and the Donna Andrews series. Also, I just discovered Louise Penny who writes the Inspector Gamache mysteries. Love those!

message 1914: by Sue (new)

Sue | 1 comments Hi, I'm Sue. I recently started with Goodreads, and decided to browse the groups. Using the keyword "cat" found this group, which I had to join. I love cozy mysteries, especially those with cats and dogs. And librarians! I have 3 inside cats and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi, and I'm a library director at a community college in southeastern Colorado. I must confess that as a young teen, I spent many a summer day sitting on our screened-porch in Illinois reading Nancy Drew.

message 1915: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Welcome Sue - I had to smile at your comment about reading Nancy Drew during the summer. As a child, my idea of playing outside meant grabbing a Nancy Drew and reading outside. Welcome to the board ~ Caroline

Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Hi Wanda and Deb ~ I'm pretty new here too. My to-be-read list is getting long with all these great recommendations. I think you'll like it here ~ Caroline

Alan Welcome Sue. Alan Zacher, author of I'm No P. I.

message 1919: by Stacey (new)

Stacey (honeybride) Hi everyone! Another newbie here. I'm staceykitty and I live in the charming small town of Springville, AL. I'm so glad I found this group. I read all sorts of books but cozies are #1 on my list! I'm so glad I found some people who share my enthusiasm for cozies because I love to discuss them! I'll start reading the group books next month, because I'm one of "those people" who has at least 4 books going at a time, and I'll never finish the July books (that would make 6 books at once and that's too much even for me. haha). They're on my to-read shelf though! I posted last night about my first cozy in that thread and I loved reading your posts. I can't wait to get to know all of you! (Oh, and be warned, I love to talk and it shows in my posts. I can be long-winded. haha!)

I recently published my first novel, FALSE IMPRESSIONS, a mystery with a hint of romance. I love to read and hope to catch up on my to-read list, though I can't help adding to it every time I visit GR!

Hello to the cozy readers new since I last said 'Hi!' - Wanda, Deb, Sue, Staceykitty, Tina, and Sandra. Sanda, be sure to visit the Cozy section where the authors all toot their horns. And everyone else - that's a good place to find new authors. (I really should copy the link somewhere - I keep forgetting it.)

message 1930: by CL (new)

CL (clphillips787) | 2 comments Howdy,

I'm new to the group, live in the People's Republic of South Austin, and love reading all different kinds of mysteries. I started out with A.A. Fair and Erle Stanley Gardner, and then moved onto Agatha Christie, soon followed by every mystery book I could find in our small library.

I'm always looking for suggestions for new reads, and really love my Kindle because I can carry so many books at one time.

Take care,

Welcome Michael...you are in the right place to be introduced to many, many good selections and you are in good company with the members of Goodreads. And, by the way, I Love Agatha, and I am down to T with Sue Grafton.

message 1937: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Welcome Mike - Agatha Christie was my intro to the world of cozies as a child, and I still love her work.

message 1938: by Caroline (new)

Caroline (carolinem67) | 30 comments Welcome Mike...and I have to agree that Agatha Christie is the best. If I let enough time go by between reading and rereading any of her books I'll have forgotten who the murderer actually was - great writing!

message 1939: by [deleted user] (new)

Hello Mike. I've never been able to figure out Agatha Christie's mysteries before she does, but I keep trying.

message 1941: by Heather (new)

Heather Hello! I used to be a SciFi fan, but my journey through the book world led me to the wonderful mystery genre. My first ever mystery book was The Cat Who Could Read Backwards by Lillian Jackson Braun. I then began to read other books like Murder had a Little Lamb and Curiosity Thrilled the Cat. I've tried to read some SciFi, but my heart lies with mystery books. Although I'm not always right in my guesses as who the killer is in a book, the books are still great reads and humorous. I loooove books with cats in, so naturally, Curiosity Thrilled The Cat is my favorite book. Sofie Kelly wrote it and I have all three of her books.

message 1942: by DonnaCarol (new)

DonnaCarol | 316 comments Rita Mae Brown & Sneaky Pie Brown has a "cat" series out called :
Mrs. Murphy Mysteries. If you haven't tried these, you may like them. There are a lot of cozies with cats as characters but not as prominent in the stories; such as "The Booktown Mystery" series by Lorna Barrett. But she includes the cats quite often in her stories. oh, and Welcome to the group Heather.

message 1943: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Hi Heather, I would second the Mrs. Murphy series. I've only read a couple of them, but really enjoyed them. Another good cat series is Miranda James' "Cat in the Stacks" series, starting with Murder Past Due.

Beth | 616 comments I've been busy with three manuscripts at various phases of production (first turn-in, edit requests from editor, galley proof), so I've been remiss at welcoming new members. Welcome to you all, but especially the brand new newbies, Heather, Mike, CL, Nash, Sandra, Tina and Stacey. Your to-read piles are going to grow!
