Michele | 38 comments hello! I'm going to reintroduce myself. I've been a member for quite a while, but inactive due to illness. I'm now returning & very excited to do so!
I'm Michele from PA, living in SC, Myrtle Beach.
My mom was a librarian until 2000, and a mystery lover! I grew up on MC Beatob, Agatha Christie, and Martha Grimes and LOTS cozy mysteries!!! As soon as one came to the library I was all over it -lol!
I love the Haley Randolph series and coffee house along with Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness mysteries, and OH! I could go on!
I also like biography and chic lit.
I have 3 cats and 2 dogs that are my family, and love animals!
I'm a newly retired journalist for Tribune Media. Not yet 50.....so still looking for a PT job.
Please friend me if you like writing and chatting!
Thank you all! Great to be back!

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) Hi Michele, welcome back! So glad you are doing better. Spent a year under the weather myself, so I can empathize. I'm Susan Jo from SE KS. I have 4 cats, 1 dog and a husband with Alzheimer's so I'm kind of a prisoner in my own home. Fortunately, I like to read, albeit very slowly because of dyslexia. I look forward to chatting with you and getting your recommendations.

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) Hi Jeannie, welcome. Where in Colorado? I moved to Kansas from Colorado Springs in 2006. I sure miss Colorado.

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Welcome Jeannie!

message 1758: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Cochran | 11 comments I am going to try and introduce myself again. For some reason there was a problem posting my last comment. Perhaps I said a naughty word.

My name is Kelly. I discovered goodreads because I am a new author. I wish it hadn't taken me so long to find this place.

Diane Mott Davidson was my first introduction into Cozies. I enjoy her novels very much. I was also lucky enough to sit at her table for a luncheon at a conference in Colorado a long time ago and she is very nice.

I am pretty much a rule follower, mostly because I don't like getting in trouble. So, I won't talk about my book here, but hope to share it with others after I have become a more active part of the community.

I am not sure how you make friends here, since Michael, my only friend, approached me. So if you would like to be my friend, that would be great, just come and knock on my door.

message 1759: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Cochran | 11 comments I just wanted to add that I have 3 dogs!

message 1760: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Cochran | 11 comments Hi Susan Jo. I used to live in Colorado Springs too. I lived there for three years in the mid-90's, up in Briargate. The thing I remember most about my first time there was not being able to breathe!

Robin (goodreadscomtriviagoddessl) | 630 comments Hi, everyone, my name is Robin, I live in Hawaii. I have been a goodreads member for some time, am now just getting back to posting due to life getting in the way, and the end of the school year.

message 1764: by Brittany S. (new)

Brittany S. (brittanysbooksandbeyond) Hi to all! My name is Brittany and I've been on GoodReads since 2010, but this is actually the first group I've joined. I love cozy mysteries and have been reading tons of them lately and thought this would be a great place to find a bunch of great recommendations.
I'm in the Chicagoland area (western 'burbs), 25 years old, and rekindled my love for reading a couple years ago so now that is one of my main hobbies.
Favorite authors are: Janet Evanovich, JD Robb, Joanne Fluke, Lisa Lutz, Meg Cabot, and so many more great new ones that I'm finding just recently.

I also just started a blog which so far is mostly cozy mystery reviews, but I am trying to branch out here and there so there's some other mysteries, chick lit, and dystopia that's mostly on my bookshelves right now. I'm always open to suggestions! If you're interested, I'd love anyone's feedback on my blog:
"The Book Addict's Guide to Reading": http://www.b311scram.wordpress.com

Thanks!!

Hello everybody. I've been here a while, but my computer feed has been acting up, not sending anything through to my e-mail, so I feel almost like a newbie myself. This group is a great place to hang out.

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) Welcome Robin and Brittany. Welcome back Norma.

message 1767: by Barb (new)

Barb Hi all! I don't know how I missed this group before, but since I'm addicted to cozies, I *had to join :) I'm Barb, from south-central PA. I work at our local public library and read almost anything, but I grew up reading mysteries, and they're still my favorites.

Some of my favorite cozy authors are Laura Childs, Cleo Coyle, Susan Wittig Albert, Nancy Atherton, Carola Dunn, Nero Blanc, Lorna Barrett/Lorraine Bartlett, and Carola Dunn. I could go on and on, but I'll stop here.

message 1768: by Susan Jo (new)

message 1772: by DonnaCarol (new)

DonnaCarol | 316 comments Hi. My name is DonnaCarol(you can pick one:) and I have been a member for about 2 hours. I fell in love with books when my fifth grade teacher read us Charlottes Web. (of course, I cried ) I was hooked on mysteries after reading Nancy Drew. I have enjoyed Agatha Christie, J.Evanovich,Mary Dahem,Susan W.Albert, Jill Churchill,D.M. Davidson among many others. The newest one on my list is Kate Carlisle. Love her bibliophile series. I am a few years behind on reading and knowing what is new out there for cozy reading. I lost my son in 2007 and could not focus to read until a year ago. It feels sooo good to pick up a book and lose myself. (Sometimes we can find ourselves between those pages) I have wished for a while now to find fellow "Cozy" fans to communicate with so I know I will enjoy this site. And to whomever keeps all of this going and so well organized............HIGH FIVE and many thanks.

message 1773: by DonnaCarol (new)

DonnaCarol | 316 comments OH..... I also have a Son, one dog, 2 indoor cats, 3 outside cats, and FIVE new Easter Kittens. Age:...50'ish. And I love calling North Carolina my home. (small town girl).Would LOVE hearing from anyone that would like to communicate.

message 1774: by Susan Jo (new)

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) Hi Donnacarol, I'm Susan Jo from Kansas. I have 1 son in Houston, 1 dog and 4 inside cats. My husband has Alzheimer's so I am basically a state-at-home. At this time my entertainment is this computer and my books. I'm retired and in my mid 60's. I love to read but I have dyslexia so it is very slow going. I'm a big city girl so this small town is not my cup of tea but.....I try to get as much exercise as I can and escape into my books and crafts.

So glad you found this group. Welcome!

DonnaCarol | 316 comments Thank you for the welcome, Susan Jo. Remember it isn't the time getting to the end, it's enjoying the process. Life can be too fast paced anyway at times. I admire your drive to not let your dyslexia keep you from something you enjoy.
Which are your favorite Cozy Mysteries.? Can you recommend any new ones? My list is a bit dated.

message 1778: by Susan Jo (new)

Susan Jo Grassi (susanjo) Donna,

Beth Groundwater is a GR author and writes great mysteries based in Colorado (I moved from CO to KS because of my husband's health). M. Ruth Myers has written romances but just wrote a zinger of a cozy mystery. Robert Thornhill is writer of KC,MO mysteries. They're hilarious with a touch of bawdiness. Then there's Barbara Fleming who writes about a DCPD LT. These are all Goodreads authors. I also love the ones you mentioned along with Tess Gerritsen, Paul Doherty, Michael Jenks and many, many more. If it's a cozy and/or historical, I'm there. I made myself of a list of writers and am trying to find the first in each series to read and see if I want to continue. So far, I haven't found anyone I don't like. If I can't die until I read all my books, I should out live Methuselah by a few centuries.

Thanks so much for that great list of recommendations. I am for sure going to try some of these. I will let you know when I pick one and how I like it. LOL. I know how that is about outliving Methuselah to be able to complete our "to read lists". Trouble is , these new authors, like Kelly Cochran, comes out with these books that HAVE to go on the list. I guess we better get to reading. (& I hope your husband is doing well.)

Thanks, Susan Jo, for the recommendation! I was on an east coast book tour last week, so I'm behind on my Goodreads groups. I'm trying to catch up again before I leave on another trip, this time a vacation!

Welcome Barb, Andrea, DonnaCarol and Sharon. Kelly, there's one list for authors to put their works up. It's also a good place for readers to visit to find new authors.

In addition to checking out the author section, be sure to look at the group's bookshelf (link in right sidebar) and the "Featured Author" section. You're sure to find lots of new-to-you authors mentioned both places.
