Celia Juliano Hi everyone, I'm Celia and I love cozy mysteries. ;) Right now I'm reading one of Susan Wittig Albert's Cottage Tales...some other favorites are Agatha Christie (Miss Marple),Jeanne M. Dams , Stephanie Barron, and Earlene Fowler. Often, though, series seem to lose their "magic" so I'm looking for new reads. This looks like a good group for that. :)

Welcome Celia and Southpaw!

message 1604: by Jeanine (new)

Jeanine (jjelizalde) I was adding "What's a Ghoul to Do?" to my currently reading when I saw this group. I love the cozies - nice little mysteries that are so much fun to read; and if they have a bit of the paranormal, even better! I live in Santee, Ca., a suburb of San Diego.

I also read, collected and loved the Trixie Belden books! I haven't even thought of those in ages. I always received them as gifts for birthdays etc. At one point I gave the collection to a friend for her daughter. Now I wish I hadn't since I have four granddaughters now who I'd have liked to pass the books to.

Hi Jeanine! I'm looking forward to loaning my Trixie books to my youngest niece in a couple years. She just turned seven and loves to read.

Wendy | 4 comments Just joined the group because I'd like to get back into reading mysteries. I loved Agatha Christie as I was growing up, so I'm going to start by re-reading a few Hercule Poirot novels.

Ed Clancy | 3 comments Hi, I'm Ed from Chicago. I have been a cozy fan for as long as I can remember. I have read hundreds of cozies because they are my favorite by far. What appeals to me about the traditional mystery (cozy)is that in the typical cozy the "suspects" are ordinary-appearing "good people". The settings are "normal" settings of every day life, yet one of these people is a murderer! I think to me, this is what appeals to me rather than the more "hard-boiled" type of mystery where you have to figure out which lowlife did it.

I think you'd get a kick out of the MRS BUNDLE MYSTERY SERIES a cozy series set in Vermont https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mrs-Bu...

Sorry, Ed, I meant to post this Goodreads blog link, too. Enjoy the excerpts http://www.goodreads.com/author/show/...

Stephen I really like the picture you have used for the group. I want to crawl into it and relax.

I also like cozy's as they are nice civilized mysteries that are enjoyable and light reads.

message 1615: by Brenda (new)

Brenda Worley (mysfreak) | 7 comments This thread was in my email and although I have been on Goodreads for awhile, I'm not sure I've introduced myself. So here goes, and pardon me if I have I already done this ;)
I am Brenda, I live in the Pacific N.W., but I'm originally from Az. I view reading as a vacation or an escape from the daily grind. I love cozy mysteries, but I also read the opposite end of the spectrum, i.e.- Stephen King, Dean Koontz, etc. My favorite cozy authors are Joan Hess, and M.C. Beaton.
Lately I have been interested in WWII fiction concerning family life and also biographies/autobiographies about those persecuted by Hitler and his kind.

message 1618: by Emma (new)

Emma Jameson | 2 comments Hi, all! I am a longtime lover of cozy mysteries. Really, I like books of all types, but cozies appeal to me because each time I return to a series, it's like visiting old friends.

Some of my favorites are by M.C. Beaton, Alexander McCall Smith and Anne Perry. (Well, I don't know if that last counts, but I love her books and I always know 1/3 into them who did it. Don't much care, either. I just read them to catch up with the characters and the atmosphere.)

I also write books. I have one cozy called Ice Blue and another coming soon called Blue Murder.

Glad to be here!

Chris (chrislbro) | 4 comments I am new here too, and just finished a marathon of Jeanne M. Dams Dorothy Martin series and Deborah Crombie's James and Kincaid series. (Two months, all the books!) Can anyone help me to find another one (or many!) cozy mystery authors like these two wonderful authors?

message 1622: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Welcome, Chris! I'm not familiar with either author, but I'm sure someone will be along who can help you out.

Debra Goldstein (debrahgoldstein) | 19 comments Just catching up on recent comments and noticed the ones from Jeanine and Heather L. -- I hadn't thought about the Trixie Belden books in years! Many of the other newer posts mention ones I'm reading like the Alan Bradley books, but anyone have a feel how the old ones like the Trixie Belden series have held up?

message 1632: by southpaw285 (new)

southpaw285 Hi Linda

Welcome, Linda!

Debra: A few of us did a "buddy read" of the first three books in the Trixie Belden series a couple years ago. I enjoyed rereading them, and everyone seemed of the opinion that they were just as good as when we were kids.

message 1636: by Loulou (new)

Loulou (Louloureadingbooks) | 5 comments Hi, my name is Loulou. I just joined Goodreads and am in the process of filling the shelves with books I read and books I own: which is a huge task! I love cozy mysteries. Among my favorites: Cleo Coyle, Carolyn G. Hart, Jerrilyn Farmer and many more. I also read historical mysteries like Barbara Cleverly, Anne Perry and Victoria Thompson.Since getting a Kindle at Christmas my tbr pile is getting bigger and bigger. I hope to discover lots of new authors through this group!

Nancy Mehl (nancymehl) Hi, I'm Nancy Mehl. I write cozy mysteries and was somewhat involved with this group quite some time ago. Because of a really busy writing schedule, I scaled back my time with almost all of my online groups. I'm trying to get back into the "swing of things" and hope to reconnect here. This is a great group!

I love to read mysteries. My favorites authors are James Patterson, Lisa Scoreline, Sue Grafton and others. I am always looking for new authors or series to read. I do read the Sookie Steakhouse books and Stephanie Plums.

message 1650: by Liora (new)

Liora (chinquapin) | 67 comments My name is Liora and I love to read cozy mysteries. Right now I am reading An Uninvited Ghost (Haunted Guesthouse Mystery, #2) by E.J. Copperman by E.J. Cooperman and The Crediton Killings (Knights Templar, #4) by Michael Jecks by Michael Jecks, which, perhaps, is more of a historical mystery than a cozy. Some of my favorites are the Coffeehouse Mysteries by Cleo Coyle, the Puzzle Lady Mysteries by Parnell Hall, the Crochet Mysteries by Betty Hechtman, and the Midnight Louie Mysteries by Carole Nelson Douglas. Lately the historical mysteries have been calling to me, especially the medieval ones. I don't know anyone in my RL who reads cozies, so I am glad to have found this group.
