Welcome Jules & Sarah. Jules, what is SAHM? (Probably something I should know, but...I don't.) I just finished reading Cleo Coyle's latest. Sarah, I'm sorry you lost that job. A bookstore, no less!

Sarah: Congrats on the new job! We had flurries here today, too. Much too early for this. It puts me in mind of a few years ago, when we had 100+ for the season. Sure hope we don't top that record anytime soon!
Aha! Stay at home mom! Must remember that. (That's my past, now I'm a stay at home grandma. Would that be SAHG?)

One of my online friends is a member of this group, and since I enjoy reading mysteries so much, I thought I should join too. I live in New Zealand, and I'm always looking for new mysteries to read.
I look forward to chatting with you all.
Shelley

I am a fan of and writer of cozy mysteries and after I have had some time to get to know this group I will tell you more about the historical mysteries I write. But for now, this is just about about me.
I am a recently retired U.S. History and Women's history professor, but I knew I wanted to be a writer by high school, and I even wrote in my senior year book that I wanted to write "happy books." This reflected my love of light, romantic fiction laced with strong dollops of humor-which is how I would define cozies. I loved Miss Marple, fell in love with the Golden Age British mystery writers like Allingham and Tey (Brat Farrar was one of my all time favorites), and have reread the Dorothy Sayers Whimsy-Vane books every year since I discovered them in graduate school
While I am not a devote of the cat or cooking mysteries, I do love Donna Andrews, with her animal themed titles, the delicious new series by Louise Penny, and the Holmes-Russell series of Laurie King. I heard King call the kind of fiction she writes as frivolous, and I think this is a perfect description of cozy mysteries, because I believe we all need a little frivolity in our lives.
M. Louisa Locke
author of Maids of Misfortune and Uneasy Spirits, the first 2 books in the Victorian San Francisco Mystery series

Hi Heather! Yes, I did. I'm looking forward to adding to my reading pile.

I'm lucky enough to have a job that allows me to read for 90% of my shift. I absolutley love that I can start and finish a cozy before it's time to go home :) I hope to yet to know you all soon! :)

Thanks so much,
Allison Cesario Paton

My favorite reads are lighter mysteries and lighter paranormal mysteries or lighter paranormal romance, but I also read everything.
I live in Arizona, where my DH and I own a bookstore, The Well Red Coyote in Sedona, AZ. (When you own a general interest bookstore, you read soooo widely.) We live with our two pets, our Maine Coon cat, Philly, and our Cocker Spaniel, Annabelle, both named for characters in my books. Other than reading and writing, I like to cook and hike.

Welcome newcomers that I've probably missed. Drop out for a couple of days and new people keep popping up. But I recognize Kris Neri's name from Sisters in Crime. Welcome!

I am from Philadelphia and every year at this time (fall into winter) I get a hankerin' for cozy mysteries! The cozier, the better! I just joined Goodreads because of this group. I hope to get a whole arsenal of new authors/titles to check out! Can't wait!

Hi Kim and Shannon. Glad to see you here!

I wish though that my library had a bigger selection of cozies, but since it is funded partially by the government, I guess I will have to make due with what we have. I have seriously contemplated getting a nook or kindle and keep having pro and con conversations with myself about it. Love any suggestions anyone has about authors amd/or books!
For anyone looking for new authors or books coming out by their favorite authors I suggest going to fantasticfiction.com. They list books up to 4 months in advance of publishing, they also list all books that your favorite author has published and when they came out. They also give suggestions as to what other books you may like based on what your searching for.
