Yes, but when you're on a plane, you might have to carry more than one book. AND you can't instantly download. BUT you can read during takeoff and landing. I better take both. Best of both worlds!

LOL, Jeanette! I know what you mean. All the "insider" terminology can be confusing. Glad you've been getting cozy for years!

Welcome, Deborah! Great description! Cozies give you a breather. Pure entertainment.

Welcome, Lindy! This is a fun group. I'm a relatively new member, too. I joined a few weeks ago, but I've been under deadline so I haven't been able to post much. Seems like I'm always under deadline! LOL

Welcome, Julia! I'm a California girl, too.

My two books, so far, A Murder in the Grand Canyon, and The Loggia Crystal are both on Amazon in Kindle format, but I downloaded the app for my smartphone and one for the laptop to be able to check them out. Any thoughts on the type of device?

I bought a netbook. It's the same size as Kindle only folded. The keyboard is not full-sized. There's no monthly connect (we use our regular internet service and it has wi-fi.) Works great. I use Kindle for PC and also Nook for PC so I can buy from either store. I've also downloaded the Sony for PC, but that was a bit more cumbersome and I haven't read any actual books on it.

The netbook on a cruise isn't as useful as other places--no wi-fi except when you're in port and the cruise ship charges a HUGE amount of money (something like 30 bucks an hour) for connect time. Either one would work for a cruise--preloaded with books. Since the netbook wouldn't be very useful for email or other things on a cruise, I'd take a Kindle over the netbook in that particular case!

You'll find lots of great cozy mystery reading suggestions here. Maggie, I'm in awe of your reading prowess. I'm lucky if I can read one book a week, with writing and promotion taking up so much of my time. Janet, there are a lot of good historical mysteries, so you can combine your two reading interests nicely.

That's pretty much me--I have a laptop and the netbook. There are definitely places where a Kindle (or other reader) would be preferable, but all-in-all the netbook works great for those situations. I do read at home on the Kindle for PC on my laptop. There's such great bargains out there and I love the instant book.
Do you use www.DailyCheapReads.com ? If not, check it out. It's a great site for bargains. They've announced a fun little "March Madness" poll that I'm looking forward too as well (it's really just picking favorite books from a pile or "guessing" which ones would be best.) I used to do a March Madness thing on another site and had to try and READ them all, but this sounds like more fun!!!

Who are your favorite UF? (There's probably a better thread to ask this...but I'm lazy...pls forgive.) I love UF. Ilona Andrews, John Levitt, Early Sookie Stackhouse (and the Lily Bard series for mystery by Harris too).
Maria

Ilona Andrews is not any romance...the first couple. There's some romantic tension in a few spots through each and in book 3. I'm saving the rest. I want to wait until the writer team (husband and wife) have more out, although I already own the ones that are out. Yes, I'm a hoarding type!
John Levitt is much more focused on mystery than any romance, although his poor, sometimes a little ... geeky? character does kind of try for a girlfriend a couple of times. (He kinda stinks at it.)
I don't think there's any romance in Simon Green (not the ones I've read.) You might like Dresden Files too, although I think the "logic" in some of the character choices ... well, it doesn't work for me. I'm told the logic flaws get better, but I've only tried the first two. No romance in the ones I tried and I haven't heard of any in the whole series.
Yeah, I read Anita and LOVED the first 3 or 4. And then and then. Don't read anything by her anymore.
M

Amen to that. I had to give up on Laurell K. Hamilton. I like an actual STORY, not just pages of erotica. Plus, personally, I find reading about someone's sex life, graphically, to be faintly ridiculous. :)

Only faintly? :>) Just kidding! I hear ya!

For UF some of my favorites are the Sookie books, Jeaniene Frost, Thomas Sniegoski and Jim Butcher. LOVE Harry Dresden. I read 3 of John Levitt's Dog Days books and wasn't crazy about any of them, tho I do love Louie! I have a dog named Louie which is why I picked up the first one of those books! I read a bunch of Kim Harrison's Rachel Morgan books and never really liked any of them either. I think it was a habit to just keep reading them, and finally stopped. I loved Jenks & Ivy, tho and wish she'd do a spinoff for either of them. Simon R. Green's Nightside books are fun reads, tho the last 2 haven't seemed to be up to earlier standards.

Maybe Linda Fairstein, Carrol O'Connell or Robert Crais (three of my favorites!) -- They are thrillers/detectives rather than cozies.

Lou is definitely a MOST excellent character!

I've initiated a friend request and suspect you don't need my pet's name to connect with me. I look forward to connecting further! Your book sounds like fun. I love reading books set in places I'm familiar with!

Hope everyone feels better soon!
