Beth | 616 comments Welcome to the group, Judy. I predict your Nook will be filling up fast with the recommended cozies you'll read about in this group.

message 652: by AmyD (new)

AmyD (justamyd) | 25 comments Hi All! I live in western MT and thoroughly enjoy my library here. My faves for mystery include Dana Stabenow, Nancy Martin, JD Robb, Monica Ferris and the Arcane Society novels of Amanda Qick/Jayne Anne Krentz. Looking forward to February's book as I love crafting and crocheting as well.

message 653: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Hi Judy from PA and Amy from MT! I like crafting and crocheting too and was more into Trixie Belden than Nancy Drew but have been reading all my life. I love books with snow and mountains and I can also personally recommend Beth's books (well, haven't read the rafting one yet but love the others). I also just finished reading Public Enemies The Host of America's Most Wanted Targets the Nation's Most Notorious Criminals by John Walsh so I like true crime as well. I think you'll find plenty of great reading ideas here! Hope you enjoy it.

Thank you Caroline! For snow and mountains, I avidly recommend Dana Stabenow, author from Alaska that writes the Kate Shugak series - oops, I bet recommdations go in another thread but thank you for the warm welcome!

message 655: by Lynne (new)

Lynne (gwenalynne) | 4 comments Hi My name is Lynne, I am a stay at home mom to two beautiful daughters living in the Kansas City area. I really enjoy cozy mysteries, especially those with a paranormal twist. I totally blame Nancy Atherton for that, since her Aunt Dimity series introduced me to the Cozy category. I also enjoy regular mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, Urban Fantasy and anything that the characters catch my attention within the first 3 chapters.

Heidi | 2446 comments Welcome Lynne :)

message 657: by [deleted user] (new)

Hi My name is Bette, although I go by Velvet online. I am 55, married to my highschool sweetheart who is a retired navy man. We have four great kids and five awesome cats. Growing up I read Nancy Drew and Cherry Ames and loved them then when I got married I started in on anything horror. Over the years I have grown out of the horror stage although I will still buy and read them. I am totally into Female Mystery Series now and can't seem to get enough of them. Now I am torn between buying the paperbacks or kindle versions but often I'm too impatient to wait for even the paperback so have alot of hard cover. Look forward to finding new series here.

Beth | 616 comments Welcome to this cozy gang, Bette, Lynne, and Amy!

Caroline, thanks so much for the recommendation of my Claire Hanover gift basket designer books! I hope you're going to enjoy the RM Outdoor Adventures series, too. There's only a little more than a month to go until the release of Deadly Currents Deadly Currents (An RM Outdoor Adventures Mystery, #1) by Beth Groundwater , river ranger Mandy Tanner's first case.

Lynne, I've met Nancy Atherton, since she, too, lives in Colorado, and she's just as nice in person as her books would lead you to expect.

message 659: by chrisa (new)

chrisa | 0 comments Hi! My name is Christina and I live in Maryland. I love reading mysteries; I started with The Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew and Trixie Belden when I was younger, and my love for mysteries grew from there. I'm currently reading "Copse Pose" by Diana Killian, and the Cat Who... books. I'm excited to be part of the group :)

message 660: by Sue (new)

Sue (suetinge) | 622 comments Welcome Lynne, Bette and Christina!

message 661: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Glad to have you with us, Lynne, Bette and Christina! And yes, Amy, I've read the Kate Shugak mysteries. I also love Sue Henry's two series - Jessie Arnold and Maxie and Stretch!

message 662: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh I love Nancy Atherton's Aunt Dimity's books, those are ones I can forsee myself reading again. I have been so caught up in downloading Kindle books I don't know what to read first. But I did get the last two books of her series, now if I could just get all my other series caught up.

message 663: by Veronique (new)

Veronique (nyclocs) | 1 comments Hi Everyone, My Name is Veronique. I am new to Goodreads and this group so I look forward to getting to know people and sharing my passion for books. So now I have to learn my way around here LOL. Look forward to the conversations.!!!!

message 664: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Welcome Veronique!

message 665: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Glad you could join us, Veronique! Get ready to have a TBR list that is astounding! LOL

message 666: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Kaehler (tammykaehler) Hi everyone. I've been lurking for a while--and gathering great suggestions for my TBR list!--but I figured it's time to say hello. I'm Tammy Kaehler, and I read almost nothing but mysteries (my husband would add that I do almost nothing but read, so we're talking a lot of mysteries here!). I also write them, and will be published for the first time later this year. It'll be the first in a cozy series, about a young female racecar driver who goes looking for for a ride with a higher-level series, but stumbles across a dead driver instead. Of course, chaos and suspicion ensue when she takes the dead driver's seat in a Corvette racecar....

Before the magic publication day in August, I'm working on writing the second in the Kate Reilly Racing Mystery series, and "researching" by reading cozies and other mysteries whenever possible (often to the detriment of my writing). Thanks to all of you for the suggestions--I'm partway through the High Heels (Gemma Halliday) series thanks to you, and I have a number of others written down to try next.

Linda Stephens | 13 comments My name is Linda and I live in the Dallas-Ft. Worth area of Texas. I started reading cozies with food themes like Dianne Mott Davidson and Joann Fluke. i am in a book club that read a lot of serious and classic books. Cozies are my mind palate cleansers between long, serious books.
My current favorites are Cleo Coyle,Susan Wittig Albert and Laura Childs both the Tea Shop mysteries and the scrapbook mysteries.
Am always looking to discover new Cozy series.

Welcome, Linda! Have you tried Laura Childs' Cackleberry Club series? It's my favorite of her 3 series. I don't care for the scrapbooking series as that's a hobby I have no interest in.

message 669: by Sean (new)

Sean Keefer (sean_keefer) | 2 comments Sean here. Discovered GR a few weeks back and love it. Decided it was time to join a group and the Cozy group was my first.
Im the author of The TrustThe Trust
I also have a blog The Trust Blog where I talk about reading, writing, and the random thoughts that come to mind.
Looking forward to meeting other fans and writers of the Cozy!
Oh - I live and write in South Carolina.

message 670: by Beth (new)

Beth | 616 comments Welcome to this cozy gang, Ursula, Sean, Linda, Tammy, Veronique, and Christina!

Linda, I too am a fan of Susan Wittig Albert's books. Also, since you enjoy food-themed books, I thought you might enjoy reading Barbara O'Neal's women's fiction books. I'm almost done with How to Bake a Perfect Life: A Novel and I'm really enjoying it. And since you like discovering new series, I hope you'll check out mine.

Christina,
I, too, loved the Nancy Drew and Boxcar Children books, and that led to a lifelong fascination with reading and writing mysteries.

message 671: by Martha (new)

Martha (owllady83) | 3 comments I'm Martha and I have been on Goodreads for a little while. I first started reading Joanne Fluke. Since then I have loved the "Cooking" Mysteries. I am finding that most of the series that I start I fall in love with them. Most of them I have also found that the authors are not writing anymore in that series. I am always looking for a new series to read.

message 672: by Kate (new)

Kate Carlisle (katecarlisle) | 28 comments Hi, all! My name is Kate Carlisle, and I'm a cozy mystery addict. :) I love them so much that I also write them, but I didn't come here just to promote myself, so I'll share a few of the other authors whose books I LOOOOVE:

Hannah Dennison
Rhys Bowen
Sophie Littlefield
Casey Daniels

The list could go on and on, but I'll leave it at that for now. I'm new to Goodreads, and I accept all friend requests! Looking forward to talking books with all of you.

message 673: by Susan (new)

Susan Hi Kate welcome!!

message 674: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Welcome Kate. I recently read Homicide In Hardcover and really enjoyed it!

❂ Murder by Death (murderbydeath) Welcome Kate and Martha! Kate - your bibliophile mystery series is one of my absolute favorites! I'm taking a book restoration class next August because of your series! :) Welcome!

message 676: by Melodie (new)

Melodie (melodieco) | 5280 comments Welcome, Kate! Love your series! Brooklyn & her oddball family are a hoot!

message 677: by Kate (new)

Kate Carlisle (katecarlisle) | 28 comments Thank you, Susan!

Heidi, thank you! I really appreciate it.

Jennifer, you don't know how happy that makes me feel! When I started this series, I hoped that it would inspire other book lovers to take up bookbinding as a hobby. It is so much fun! I posted a couple of pictures to my Facebook page recently of two books I made in a bookbinding class. I don't know if this will work, but here goes: Pics of handmade books If that doesn't work, you can go to facebook.com/KateCarlisleBooks and click on the Photos tab at the top. I'd love to see pics from your class, too!

message 680: by Jeanette (new)

Jeanette (amomwithabook) Hi all. I just joined and thought I would add a comment here. :) I'm Jeanette. I have just recently discovered the term "cozy"! but I've been reading them for years! I remember reading all Agatha Cristie's books as a teenager. I just recently got back into them. I started with Alice Kimberly. Love, love, love her Haunted Bookshop series. Then Juliet Blackwell. Then Kate Carlisle's Bibliophile series. You get the idea! lol

So glad to have this group to share in!

message 681: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2446 comments Welcome Jeanette! I did not know about cozies (the term) either until joining GR. This site is awesome :)

message 682: by Britney (new)

Britney (tarheels) | 142 comments Hey everyone, I'm Britney. I just joined the group last week. I love to read cozy mysteries in between true crime novels and darker mysteries. It's nice to have an occasional light read. I'm excited to see what everyone else is reading, so I can get some new authors to read.

message 683: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Wow! I must have been sleeping like Rip Van Winkle! How did I miss all this? A big Goodreads welcome to Tammy (I'm looking forward to your book! I'm a NASCAR fan and have enjoyed formula races as well), Linda (visited Ft Worth for the first time last year and really loved it!), Sean, Ursula, Martha, Jeanette, Britney and Kate (I've read all the bibliophile books and loved em!). I hope your TBR lists increase as much as you want and, if you ever want more suggestions, I've got lots of lists (about 345 favorite authors right now!).

message 684: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Oh! I remember now! LOL. I wasn't checking in on the boards much because I've been reading for the last couple days (just finished 5 books in the last week). Thank you to Sue Ann Jaffarian, Lorraine Bartlett, Amanda Lee, Sofie Kelly, and Ellen Byerrum for the last week's enjoyable reading hours.

message 690: by Beth (new)

Beth | 616 comments Welcome, Martha, Kate, Jeanette, Britney, and Cassa,

Like Kate, I write mysteries, but I read an awful lot of them, too. This is a great group for discovering new authors and series!

Britney,
I have a true historical crime book to recommend to you, if you haven't already read it: The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective

message 691: by Jeri (new)

Jeri | 2 comments Hello,
My name is Jeri and I discovered Cozies within the past year. I have read all of Madelyn Alt's, Victoria Laurie and Kate Carlisle's. I typically like the real scary books i.e. Kathy Reichs, Patricia Cornwell, but happy to say the cozies have been so much fun. I finished writing a young adult fiction and working on a mystery of my own right now. I just love books.

message 692: by Deborah (new)

Deborah (deborahkliegl) Hi. I just joined and read cozies when I want to rest my brain but have a great read. I am constantly reading something. My house is so full of books that hubby says I could start my own library. I read a wide variety of things. Most recently finished two Perry Mason mysteries and am now reading a Hildegard Withers mystery. Looking forward to be involved with fellow book lovers.

message 693: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Hi Jeri and Deborah! Glad to have you join us. I mentioned this long ago, Deborah, but my dream house has an entire room that is my personal library! A love of reading is the greatest thing my family ever gave me!

message 694: by Karen (new)

Karen Hey, am new on here and excited to find new cozy mystery authors to look up at the Library. thanks for this group. I really like the monthly author and book, though have not gotten out to the library to try to find it yet, but am excited to do it. I liked voting in the march pole and hopefully if I cannot do February will get started with whatever is chosen in March. I live in the boonies in southern Missouri so get a lot of reading done.

message 698: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Thanks, Christine! I'm glad to have you join us - now I don't feel like I'm strange for reading several books at once. Haha. I'm not into e readers though but I think you'll find some great discussions here.

message 700: by Monique (new)

Monique (mmyap) | 4 comments Hi there cozy lovers! I'm Monique and wanted to say hello. This seems like such a great site. I'm so excited to find it and I'm looking forward to adding lots of titles to my reading list. I love many types of books but cozy's are my favorite. I just got done with Pillars of the Earth (NOT a cozy) and definitely need something less heavy.

I'm still trying to get the hang of how this site works. There is alot going on here and I'm somewhat cyber-challenged so bear with me.
