Paula (pauldajo) Hi All, I join about 10 minutes ago. I'm trying to get back to my cozy mystery roots. I've kind of pushed the mysteries aside to read urban fantasy like books. I'm getting a little tired of UF now and will start reading the mysteries that have piled up in my huge TBR piles! I love that you have a Trixie Beldon thread.

message 470: by Cathy (new)

Cathy Wiley | 8 comments Hello everyone. I've been remiss in introducing myself. :) I keep starting to, then getting sidetracked, then forgetting if I have or not. I just checked, and I haven't.

My name is Cathy Wiley, and I'm the author of Dead to Writes, a new cozy mystery... although it's set in Baltimore and I know most cozies are small towns.

I also love to read cozies, I just devoured the entire Donna Andrews Meg Langslow series in two weeks. And I'm a huge fan, since childhood, of the Trixie Belden series. :)

message 479: by Katherine (new)

Katherine Hi all--joined yesterday because I saw the note about Susan Albert being the guest author this month and I am at present gobbling down the China Bayles and Robin Paige series. As a retired teacher in Vt I have tons of time to read--which I have always loved--and to indulge my manic reading of everything an author has written before moving on to another author. I think Thomas Costain and James Michener were the first authors with which I did that. I'm anxious to read the series of cozies with tea as the theme but NOT YET!!! lol

message 483: by Caroline (new)

Caroline | 661 comments Hi Cathy! Hi Katherine! I retired this year too so am enjoying more reading times. I'd also like to visit VT sometime. I too like reading series in order so it's kind of cool when I come across a series with which I hadn't been familiar so I can read them all. But I keep up with my favorite authors too and maintain a list of when new releases are coming out so I'll look for yours, Cathy. (I'm from DC, just down the road) Hope you enjoy this group. It's nice to have so many other folks who like the same kind of books I do.

Wow!! I've never met anyone else who reads Thomas Costain. I read as many of his as I could get at the library 30+ years ago (That's telling my age!) I found one of his that I hadn't read a few months ago: Darkness and the Dawn and he is still a great author. I plan to reread his books in the coming years. Also, I'm not bored with Michener's description. That's what I enjoy about the old-fashioned historicals. I suppose nowadays you can get a feel for things on the History Channel but it used to be you needed to read and research to get the knowledge they 'present' in an hour's show.

Annie Flanders | 14 comments Hello everyone! My name is Annie and I just joined Goodreads today. A friend of mine has a book listed here, and after I ordered it, I decided to explore the site more.

I am still on AOL, and for many years I posted on the Mystery Boards under either Goosiebird or Annie Goose 10.

I remember you from the M/T board on AOL, Annie! A bunch of us from that board have migrated over to an M/T board here. Nice to "see" you!

message 489: by Annie (new)

Annie Flanders | 14 comments Thank you Melodie. Is there a specific board that the AOL people moved to, or just here in general?

One of the nicest things that came out of all those years on the Mystery Boards is the personal friendships that I have had with some of the individuals there.

message 495: by Katherine (new)

Katherine I LOVED Costain when I was in college, Vicki! Is he still around?/OMG, I'll have to check that out. As to Michener--his descriptions were fabulous. I loved the way he started his works with a geological development and then flora and fauna before finally bringing human habitation on stage--the scientist in me who also loves reading was thoroughly entranced. On the other hand, the Brontes and authors of that period could become quite dreary as they left the story line for description of the setting --atmosphere set apart from the flow of story--that I usually leafed over! LOL

message 496: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (ladyvictoria5) | 218 comments WOW! I totally agree with you on both Michener and the Brontes! We must be kindred spirits.
