Leah (leahkarge) Thanks, BJ Rose! I think I'll go with Shiver since I've been planning on reading that for a long time.

Rossy, if you need to pair people up who haven't gotten their recs, let me know and I'll be glad to help. My girl Angela said she still hasn't gotten hers so if she needs a new partner, I'm your girl ;P

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Well you have to make recommendations for Leah as she has volunteered to partner with you. If you wouldn't mind committing to two partners, then i would welcome if you wanted to partner up with somebody else as well.

Ez (ezrah-rah) | 387 comments Pollyanna,

Here are your recs! Forgive any typos. I’m half-asleep, but I wanted to post this before going to bed. LOL.

From your TBR list:
1) The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo - Stieg Larsson (I’ve heard nothing but good things about this book and want to read it myself soon.)
2) Water For Elephants - Sara Gruen (Loved this book! They’re making it into a movie now.)
3) Emma - Jane Austen (One of my favorites by Austen.)
4) A Certain Slant of Light - Laura Whitcomb (I really enjoyed this. Interesting story.)

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (Millennium, #1) by Stieg Larsson Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen Emma by Jane Austen A Certain Slant of Light by Laura Whitcomb

New:
1) The Gargoyle - Andrew Davidson (Historical-fiction/fantasy/romance. I’ve heard a lot of good things about this book and it sounds awesome. I’ve been meaning to read it for a while.)
2) Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress #1) - Jeaniene Frost (Urban fantasy/romance. This comes highly recommended. I’ll actually be reading it this month, too.)
3) Grave Sight (Harper Connelly #1) - Charlaine Harris (Urban-fantasy/mystery. I noticed you’ve read some of the Sookie books, but judging by your shelves I think you might also like this series.)
4) Evelina - Frances Burney (Classic lit. Burney gets compared to Austen, though she came first. Since you have some Austen on your shelves, I thought this might interest you.)

The Gargoyle by Andrew Davidson Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost Grave Sight (A Harper Connelly Mystery, #1) by Charlaine Harris Evelina (Oxford World's Classics) by Frances Burney

Hope you like one of these!

message 279: by Rossy (new)

Rossy (naughtybookjunkie) | 2192 comments Thank you Angela & Leah!

I'm off to bed myself, but i'll check back in the morning to make sure everyone had their recommendations. If i missed somebody please let me know here and i'll fix it tomorrow!

In the event that one of the missing partners comes back. You're welcome to take a look at the recommendations you were first assigned with. If you choose to read one of those books this month, am sure they would love to know what you thought of it once you're done.

Rules :

1. Everything will be done in THIS thread. Please make your recommendations HERE.

2. Make sure to check back BEFORE the 2nd of May and make recommendations for your partner. If i do not hear from you in this thread or through a private message by 11pm, i will assume you will not be participating. Therefore i will re-assign your partner to somebody else.

3. Give 8 book choices to your partner. 4 from their TBR and 4 brand new to them author/book. Of course we are only committed to FINISH 1 recommendation; but this will give your partner different options to choose from depending on their reading mood.

I would be happy to step in for Gigi's recommandations both in givig her recs and reciving them from her.
However, I still have faith in Sara - my original pairing ;) As far as I understand she only recently - like, last few hours - returned from vacation of which she gave info in the thread. So I don't really feel left out of fun and I wouldn't worry much for two days more, actually.
That said, I don't mind reading 2 books this month at all :)
Thank you for wonderful job you're doing here. It's beyond me how you manage to do it so well :D

*off to take a look on Gigi's shelves*

Since Gigi has not made the recommendations yet, you can ignore my earlier request if you'd like. I will leave it up to you and her, if you both still want to recommend for each other.

I don't mind it at all. I was going slow this month - I didn't sign up for any monthly challanges apart from this one. I probably could use the second recommandation, hah, otherwise I might go crazy from challenges withdrawal. ;)

message 283: by Gigi (last edited May 03, 2010 03:38AM) (new)

Gigi | 1149 comments Rossy, forgive me. I fell asleep.

Annvelwis,

From your TBR
Cry No More by Linda Howard (one of my best April reads)
Lover Mine by JR Ward (I might as well suggest that you to read the latest one)
Mackenzie's Mountain by Linda Howard (I really enjoyed this book when it was a rec for me)
Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (looks really good- won a ton of awards)

New
Once and Always by Judith McNaught (could be one of my McNaught favs)
A Hunger Like No Other by Kresley Cole (looks interesting)
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman (looks interesting- also won awards)
The Help by Kathryn Stockett (if you're in the mood for something completely different)

Let me know which book you pick and whether you liked it or not. Also, if nothing here interests you- I will gladly do some more digging.

Annvelwis | 671 comments Gigi

Thank you for your recommandations, they all look intresting! I'll read Lover Mine and/or The Graveyard Book :) I'm quite sure I'll be able to get both of them rather easily, but I don't know which I'll get to quicker.

As for your recs... :) Here's few I thought you might like:

TBR:
Lover Awakened by J.R. Ward - considered by many as the best book in the series, though I must admit I'm not among those; the book's great nonetheless
Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost - one of the most intriguing vampires in the genre, heh
A Knight in Shining Armor by Jude Deveraux - terrific time-travel romance with great hero
Last recommendation I'll do a little backwards... : you have several books by Susan Elizabeth Phillips on your TBR, but I couldn't decide which to recommend to you the most. Definitely worth the time are It Had to Be You, Nobody's Baby But Mine, Natural Born Charmer - all three are light and funny.

New:
Pack Challenge by Shelly Laurenston - probably the weakest in the series, but still hot and hilarious.
Angels' Blood by Nalini Singh - lots of tension, decent suspense and intresting take on winged creatures
The Host by Stephenie Meyer - still ya book, but much more complex than Twilight series; it starts a bit slowly though
The Unsung Hero by Suzanne Brockmann - I noticed you have her other book in that series on your TBR, and really, you might want to consider reading it in order. Hero and heroine from "Gone Too Far" are superb and I very much recommend that book to you, but their story is "woven" through the entire series from first book.

:) Happy reading!

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Yz,

I'm so sorry.. I didn't get that we had to check back on the board for our partners (I should have thought about it though), or that I was paired with you! Forgive me, I had the weirdest weekend, and I didn't even think to check! Can I still recommend some books to you? I just saw the ones you did me:-) they sound like fun, I need to go check which I do have on my actual shelves at home, and which I want to buy:-) I am browsing your to-read list to find smt good :-) I'll post ASAP! So sorry (again!)!!! :-((

Dee (austhokie) | 7316 comments Yz
I took a look at your TBR pile and came up with a few books that I hope you enjoy! If none of them interest you - let me know.

TBR
The Mercenary - Cherry Adair - I've never read this series, but heard good things about it
Head Over Heels - Susan Anderson - I read this book a few months back and enjoyed it, but its a fairly light read
Long Hard Ride -Lorelei James - LJ is probably one of my favorite all time authors and I love this series - there is just something about sexy cowboys!
Then Came You - Lisa Kleypas - One of my favorite LK books

New Recs
Angel Warriors - Stephani Hecht - I know you like paranormal and this is a series someone recommended to me on Amazon about angels, set in Detroit of all places
Goddess of Spring - PC Cast - I noticed you had other PC Cast books on your list, but not this series. This is technically the second in the series, but they can be read as stand-alones
Vision in White - Nora Roberts - Here new quartet - this is the first and its a cute read. The third one just came out
Sandstorm - James Rollins - This one is completely different, but its a non-stop adventure, that is the prequel to his Sigma series, that I have enjoyed reading

I hope you find something you like!

Annvelwis! I totally owe you an apology. I didn't see the posts between you and Rossy above my recs referring to Sara's rec's on the 4th. I love getting recs, but I hope I didn't put you through too much trouble. Thank you so much for the recs.

I really should get into the habit of updating my currently reading list- I'm currently reading Lover Awakened. And you're right it is very good! Also, I see quite a few recs that I'm going to add to my TBR. I'm dying to read a time travel novel so, I'm going to pick A Knight in Shining Armor.

No worries, Melanie. It happens to the best of us. : )

Rossy had reassigned partners last night and Delicious Dee is quick enough to give me recs.

Melanie, if its not too much to ask, do you mind making recommendations for Delicious Dee instead of me, since I will probably not be able to go through her TBR shelves until way later in the evening.

Hope you'll find something you like among my recs. :)

Thanks for the recs. Will take a better look at them later and will let you know what will I pick.

My original partner, Melanie, is back, and I've asked her to pick for you. If she doesn't give you any recs by tonight, I'll go ahead and do your recommendations. Work is a bit busy right now, so I can't go exploring your shelves. : )

message 292: by Melanie (new)

Melanie (melaina) | 1339 comments Lol... Yz, I was just posting my recs for you when I saw that Dee did so already.. Oh well, I'll post them anyway :-)

On your TBR:

The Mercenary - Cherry Adair (lol.. Dee also recommends it): I loved the T-Flac series, they're sexy and fun, and the heroes are all to die for alpha heroes:-) And Marc Savin, for me, was one of the best T-Flac heroes!

Bitten & Smitten - Michelle Rowen : I thought Sarah Dearly was a great new vampire, whose relationship with Thierry, a depressed 600 year old vamp was hilarious:-)

Trouble in High Heels - Christina Dodd: a great contemporary romance, where Brandi, the heroine decides to throw caution to the wind when her fiance dumps her, and has a hot one-night stand with a gorgeous guy, that ends up being a lot more than what she expects.

Dreaming of You - Lisa Kleypas: I fell in love with LK a couple years back, and haven't fallen out yet: this is one of my favorite HR's by her. Derek is the typical tortured bad-boy, and Sara the innocent country girl (cliched, but such a good book!)

New:

In the Prince's Bed- Sabrina Jeffries: the first book in a HR trilogy about three illegitimate royal bastards: Alex Black is ruined, and needs an heiress so he sets his sights on Katherine Merivale, thinking to make it a business ararangement: naturally, that doesn't quite work out for him! The kind of HR I enjoy, where my heart clenches for the H/h..

The Switch - Lynsay Sands: I saw you read all her Argeneau books, and I loved this HR, where twin sisters alternately masquerade as sister and brother, and the hero is so confused when he's attracted first to the sister, then to the brother... It's hilarious, especially when the H takes the "brother" to a brothel..

Real Vampires Have Curves - The story of sassy and funny Glory St. Clair, who was transformed into a vamp while in PMS phase, with all the extra curves that entails. She broke it off with Blade, her overprotective and over-possessive maker, but he's determined to protect her from the vampire hunters of Austin... I thought it very light and funny although it is the first of a series.. And Blade is yummy:-p

The Mane Event - Shelly Laurenston : The first of SL's Pride series, where Mace Llewellyn, a lion shifter and major alpha hunk, comes back from the army to NYC and runs into the only woman he ever cared about, Desiree "Dez" McDermott, who's now a tough NYPD detective with two Rottweilers:-) Chaos ensues when they pursue a killer :-) Once again, I was laughing out loud at some points:-)

The Hunt- Allison Brennan: Ok.. this is way darker than any other recommendations I made: the story being about the hunt for a serial killer by Miranda, his only surviving victim, and Quinn, the FBI agent she was in love with at the time, and the man who betrayed her trust. A couple scenes are pretty graphic, unfortunately, but I like Allison Brennan (maybe because of my major, I don't know): her books are a mix of romantic suspense/thriller, with of course a HEA, although the romance shares the scene with the hunt...

No Escape- Shannon K. Butcher : You have her PNRs on TBR, but she also wrote some really good romantic suspense, and this was my favorite.. The tension and the past between the H/h are great, and the secondary characters give a great sub-plot to the main story..

When Darkness Comes: I was really surprised you didn't have Alexandra Ivy in your books: this is the first of the Guardians of Eternity series (PNR), and Dante and Abby (who sometimes, I gotta say was a little whiny, but rarely) are pursued by all kinds of demons, but still have time to build (and act on) their budding romance :-)

Ok.. I know I posted more books than I should have, but once I got started I kept thinking of new ones!! Once again, Yz, I'm so sorry for being late..

Dee, thanks for finding books for Yz too (you're a better partner than I was!)
