Michael (michaeljsullivan) I'd like to nominate my book Avempartha. It is technically a second in a series but is completely stand alone. It's independent nature has been verified by a number of bookclubs and third-party reviewers so I'm very confident it fullfills the qualifications.

I of course would love to come and talk to the group about the book. One of the great things about GoodReads is the ability for readers and authors to interact...but in many cases I stay away so people are not uncomfortable speaking freely therefore an invitation to interact is a great benefit of being selected.

Places where the book can be purchased:
Amazon | Barnes and Noble | Borders Marketplace | Book Depository | My Website | Publisher's Site | Abe's Books | BooksaMillion | Powell's

An online sample can be found at this link:on the cover: CLICK HERE

There is also currently a Goodreads giveaway running for this title and you can enter to win at this link: CLICK HERE

Thanks again for the opportunity.

ABOUT THE BOOK
The secret is in the tower. The problem is the beast. The answer is two thieves.
When a destitute young woman hires two thieves to help save her remote village from nocturnal attacks, they are drawn into the schemes of an ancient wizard. While Royce struggles to breech the secrets of an ancient elven tower, Hadrian attempts to rally the villagers to defend themselves against the unseen killer. What begins with the simple theft of a sword places the two thieves at the center of a firestorm--that could change the future of Elan.

REVIEWS
"Mr. Sullivan continues to impress. In Royce and Hadrian he has created some of the best characters the genre has seen in some time, and in Avempartha he shows that he knows what to do with them." -- Speculative Fiction Junkie

"I was quite eager to see if the book would live up to the expectations raised by Mr. Sullivan's marvelous debut. I am happy to report that not only did "Avempartha" meet expectations, but it took the series to another level, ensuring that the future installments will be must-reads." -- Fantasy Book Critic

"Avempartha is another strong entry that exceeds its predecessor in both depth and scope. The Riyria Revelations is shaping up to be one of the most original and entertaining fantasy series I've seen in years" -- King of the Nerds Fantasy Reviews

"In short, Avempartha is highly, highly recommended and a novel that raises Michael Sullivan's The Riyria Revelations to "major league" status." -- Fantasy Book Critic

"All in all, Avempartha is not only a great book in its own right, delivering on Michael's promise to give us stand-alones within a bigger story-arc, but it is also a better book than The Crown Conspiracy, showcasing Michael's crowing talents as an author who is sure to become a Name in the industry. Well worth a read!" -- Dave Brendon's Fantasy & Sci-fi Weblog

"Avempartha is the second novel in “The Riyria Revelations”, but like the previous novel, “The Crown Conspiracy”, can as easily be read as a standalone. Also both novels offer a delightful reading, captivating adventures and a very interesting author. I am certain that I will hear more of Michael J. Sullivan in the future. -- Dark Wolf's Fantasy Reviews

"Mr. Sullivan has put the fun of a YA adventure into a story for mature readers. Royce and Hadrian are the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser for this generation of fantasy readers." -- Fantasy Literature

ABOUT ME
I started writing at the tender age of ten. After reading Lord of the Rings, I decided to craft a similar tale and wrote it on a manual typewriter found when cleaning out his sister's closet. Over a span of fifteen years I wrote thirteen novels, but never made any serious attempts at publishing. Then I decided to break into the writing world with a literary piece finely crafted after the likes of John Steinbeck and John Updike. When I failed to get this "great american novel" published, I quit writing for nearly ten years.

My writing spark was re-ignited when I started reading Harry Potter with my dyslexic middle daughter. I fell in love with the story and decided to write something "just for fun". The result was the six-book series the Riyria Revelations.

I was born in Detroit Michigan and has lived in Vermont, North Carolina and Virginia. I worked as a commercial artist and illustrator, founding my own advertising agency in 1996, which I closed in 2005 to pursue writing full-time. I currently reside in Fairfax, Virginia with my wife and three children. I'm currently editing book five of the Riyria Series, keeping to the agressive schedule of releasing one book every six-months.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) "Avempartha" has also kicked some butt at the BSC fantasy, SF & horror review site. It is still in the running for top book.

Here's a link to the latest run-off.

The first book of this series that I read was out of order, on purpose, just to see how well it worked. It was fine. While I wanted to read the earlier one & did, the story wasn't harmed at all. I was pleasantly surprised, so I'll second the nomination.

Chris Haught (haughtc) | 916 comments I'd like to note here that while Avempartha is the second in a series, we did read the first, The Crown Conspiracy as a group last year, which would make this eligible, even without it being a stand-alone.

Thread moved from 'Author's self nominated titles' as title does not qualify due to author having 'The Crown Conspiracy' read previously in the group. This novel can be nominated in General Fantasy poll.
