Liz (LizMax) | 12 comments I hate giving up on a book before it's done. I'll give it one more try tonight and if it doesn't capture me, I'm moving on to something else. I was hoping it would be more like Dark Confessions of an Extraordinary, Ordinary Woman.

I normally give a book 100 pages before I give up. There is no shame in quitting if it is not good or what you expected :)

Finished:

End of Days (Penryn and the End of Days, #3) by Susan Ee The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway

And today I started:

The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

Which is like 1,200 pages long, so I will probably read some other things on the side. :P

1200 pages! Yowza Brigid. I need to read the second book in the Penryn series. I forgot the first book so keep putting off reading book two because I should probably re-read book one (Angelfall). Gah!

Jenny (juliababyjen) | 1572 comments Okay, haven't updated in awhile!!

The Inventor's Secret (The Inventor's Secret, #1) by Andrea Cremer 4 stars, enjoyable read but nothing special.

Bone Gap by Laura Ruby 5 stars, LOVED this one, and if you are a fan of The Raven Boys or Maggie Stiefvater, I DEFINITELY recoommend it!! SOOOO GOOD!

Ignite Me (Shatter Me, #3) by Tahereh Mafi 3 stars, pretty meh read.

The Sound of Music Story How A Beguiling Young Novice, A Handsome Austrian Captain, and Ten Singing von Trapp Children Inspired the Most Beloved Film of All Time by Tom Santopietro 4 stars and really loved this one!

Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman 5 stars, again, really loved and connected to the kid in this one for some reason.

Killing Patton The Strange Death of World War II's Most Audacious General by Bill O'Reilly 4 stars. Very hard to get through as far as bleakness, but very interesting.

Keeping the Castle by Patrice Kindl 4.5 stars, loved it again!

The Wicked Will Rise (Dorothy Must Die, #2) by Danielle Paige 4 stars, liked this one much more than the first book. Getting into this series now!

The Vision by Dean Koontz 4 stars, classic Dean Koontz. Very interesting and suspenseful, but super creepy and stomach turning at the end!

End of Days (Penryn and the End of Days, #3) by Susan Ee 5 stars, EPIC conclusion to the trilogy, LOVED it!!

Now rereading Eldest (The Inheritance Cycle, #2) by Christopher Paolini and also reading The Crown (Queen of Hearts, #1) by Colleen Oakes Black City (Black City, #1) by Elizabeth Richards Landline by Rainbow Rowell

I've been slacking and haven't really had the urge to pick up a book for awhile now. I'm in a really bad slump. Tried to even read Harry Potter and that didn't do anything for me. I haven't updated my instagram, blog or goodreads account for sometime. I'm really hoping that June will be a better month.

This morning I finished Bone, Vol. 6 Old Man's Cave (Bone, #6) by Jeff Smith Good god, I've never seen hilarity and drama balanced this well.

Up next, probably The Isle of Blood (The Monstrumologist, #3) by Rick Yancey

To try to get out of a slump, so why not go for my favorite mystery author, the queen itself, Agatha Christie. I'm currently reading...
The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie

Kristen Taber | 506 comments Okay, so I haven't been on here as much (still) because the books I've been reading lately aren't ones you'll want to read (medical books, mostly; my second daughter was born with a rare disorder so I've been figuring out what sort of care she needs...she's doing well, though, for what she has!). Since I do have limited time, but I need to give my mind a break, I'm looking for a good bath read. What's the ONE book I MUST read right now, either wildly entertaining or comedic (obviously both is cool, but I mean if it's not going to make me laugh, it should take my breath away so I'm not thinking of other things in the back of my mind while reading). Please, nothing depressing for obvious reasons. I love your recs so if you don't mind helping me, I'd appreciate it :).

Hello Kristen. Good to hear from you. I am so sad to hear the news of your little one :( I looked through your tbr pile and from that I would highly recommend Ready Player One Ready Player One by Ernest Cline and I Am the Messenger I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak . Have you read the Lumar Chronicles yet? I can't remember. The 3rd book in the series Cress was my only 5 star read of 2014. Personally I read a ton of cozy mysteries in between books because they are light and fun so if you would like to give one of those a try I could recommend some of those too.

Alice in the Country of Hearts, Vol. 04 (Alice in the Country of Hearts, #4) by QuinRose 3.5 stars

The Replaced (The Taking, #2) by Kimberly Derting 4 stars, I thought the sequel was better than the first one. The ending to this one...HOLY CRAP! Mindblown!!

Eldest (The Inheritance Cycle, #2) by Christopher Paolini (reread), LOVED it! I agree with what you said about Roran, Ron.

Black City (Black City, #1) by Elizabeth Richards 3 stars--liked the story itself and the world building, but the characters needed much more development.

First Frost (Waverley Family, #2) by Sarah Addison Allen 5 stars, LOVED this!

Rebel Belle (Rebel Belle, #1) by Rachel Hawkins 4 stars. Could have used more action, but still enjoyed it!

Doll Bones by Holly Black 4 stars, really awesome enjoyable MG read!

It auto-checked out the book once it was available and I didn't realize - I thought I had another week! Now I am waiting for the inter-library loan to deliver a hard copy so I can finish before starting First Frost (Waverley Family, #2) by Sarah Addison Allen which I am next in line for.

Sorry I haven't been posting here much lately! I'm still making my way through The Count of Monte Cristo. But I also started:

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments I finished The Isle of Blood (The Monstrumologist, #3) by Rick Yancey last night, and while the first two books were excellent, this one won me over just a little more because of the way Yancey focused on certain relationships and how he made me flip flop on my opinions of certain characters.

Up next Sidekicks by Jack D. Ferraiolo , a cape and tights story by an Emmy winning TV writer. Should be fun :)

Yesss I loved Isle of Blood; like you said Tommy, I liked that it focused a bit more on characters/relationships. I agree with Heidi that book 4 is very different ... there was a bunch of weird publishing drama with it, which I think contributed to that. But it's still good!

So an update guys. I really did enjoy Dorothy Must Die since it was something different. Its not really a re-telling but more of a continuation. I'm not really sure if the fans of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz will like it because the characters that you fall in love with are a totally different person. I really hated that the author didnt use the color of the shoes in the book, that, more than anything, aggravated me. I will recommend that you guys at least try to read the first book to see if you guys will like the series.

message 8598: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 440 comments Just finished Sidekicks by Jack D. Ferraiolo and am blown away by how good it was. Wasn't ready for that at all, I got it as something light to break up my darker reads. It is, IMO, every bit as good as the Lunar Chronicle and Monstrumologist books I've been reading recently. Different, but equal in terms of how much I enjoyed. I doubt I'll convince many to check it out. Trust me, I almost passed on it. But if you do skip it, you're passing on what might very well end up being my favorite read of 2015.

Up next, finishing off the Monstrumologist with The Final Descent (The Monstrumologist, #4) by Rick Yancey *excited*
