Stephen (havan) | 151 comments I recall a short story that I read. I believe that I read it prior to 1974.

I don't recall the author or the name of the story, but I've mentioned it to several friends and no one has even heard of it.

I'm hoping that one of you might have and can steer me in the right direction.

The gist of the story is that the kid is pretty much ignored by his dad who'se always busy at work as a stock broker.

Dad gives the kid one share of stock for his birthday and the kid becomes fascinated by the elaborate engravings on the stock certificate. He kinda sees the certificates as art.

Kid starts giving his dad money he's saved so that his dad will buy him single shares in different companies. The kid starts hanging the certificates on his wall and is sorta collecting them like baseball cards.

When the economy tumbles the kid is THRILLED at the number of different certificates that he can add to his collection. He gets more and more thrilled with his collection as his dad gets more and more depressed and angry.

Unknown to the kid, Dad sees the ever increasing collection as mocking him. Dad grows more and more angry until.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Hmm, I'm finding it by itself with a number, B0012G90I4, not an ISBN, and I can't find it in a short story collection. Anyway, I can't find it in the Goodreads' database.

If anyone finds it or wants to add it, please post here, and I can add it to our bookshelf.

Stephen, I'm glad you found it, and thanks to BookWoman.

Stephen (havan) | 151 comments Well, I found a single used copy on Amazon and ordered it. I'll enter the book data when I get it and can probably scan in a cover as well.

Thanks, Stephen! I noticed most of the searches for it led to Amazon.
