David | 18 comments I would like to request combining a book. I can't figure out quite how to do it. I added a new edition to The Great Gatsby (9781433241451), or I thought I did. It should be combined with the existing Great Gatsby edition.

Thank you.

Only librarians have that ability.

Pinar Celebi (pinuccia) | 5 comments I somehow cannot combine the Turkish version (http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/80...) of Prelude to Foundation by Isaac Asimov.

Can another librarian please try?

message 5: by Paula (new)

Paula (paulaan) | 7014 comments Done - I had to change the name of the turkish version to combine (to get them both on the same page) then change it back again

message 7: by Phair (new)

Phair (sphair) This book A Woman Tenderfoot has incorrect main author. Author is Grace Gallatin Thompson Seton - Mathewson is only author of *introduction* to this Lyons edition.

Here is the cover for this edition:
http://s942.photobucket.com/albums/ad...

I believe this edition should be combined with this main record: A Woman Tenderfoot

Thanks

Thanks for the quick attention to this record. A Woman Tenderfoot. I just noticed, the pagination for this edition is incorrect. I have my copy in hand (same isbn) and it has 360pp, not 200. Only noticed when I put in a currently-reading progress report about being on p204 and being told that I had apparently finished the book!

message 17: by Phair (new)

Phair (sphair) This Audio Book record seems to have incorrect or pre-pub title:

Beast of Babylon

I believe it should be merged with the other editions of this title here:

Altar of Eden

message 18: by Sandra (new)

Sandra | 31493 comments Fixed, Sandra.

message 19: by Phair (new)

Phair (sphair) I think these two should be combined. One is the PB and the other the hard cover edition of the same title:

A Boy Called H: A Childhood in Wartime Japan
and
A Boy Called H: A Childhood in Wartime Japan

The cover image on the 1913594 edition seems to have a problem- it shows up OK as a small thumbnail but in the larger cover image view I just get a rectangular box with a "?" in it

message 20: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Thanks, Sandra! I've combined them and refreshed the cover -- is it showing correctly now?

message 21: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 363 comments I've been reading Katherine Paterson's books and found two listings for Blueberries for the Queen and also two listings for The Flip-Flop Girl - am I in the right place to ask that they be combined?

(I want to mark the book as read just once; I don't want to have multiple editions in My Books. Or am I confused?)

message 22: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Cheryl, this is indeed the right place! (It helps if you can provide links to the editions, but I've found them both in this case, I believe.)

Cheryl wrote: "(I want to mark the book as read just once; I don't want to have multiple editions in My Books. Or am I confused?)"

I think I may be confused about your question. If you put one edition of a book on your shelves, that's the only edition that will show in your books, no matter how many editions of a book are combined together. If you shelve two separate editions of a book, then they'll both show up in your books separately even though they're combined in the database. Is that what you're asking?

message 23: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 363 comments I marked Blueberries... as 'read.' Later I looked it up again to check on something, and the other listing came up - making me think that I'd goofed, and hadn't marked it. Of course I assume that your fix, combining the two listings, means that won't happen again.

To further clarify, or muddy, as the case may be: The main reason I'm on goodreads is so that I can look up a book that I don't remember whether I read it or not. If I find it on 'My Books' as 'read' then I know I'm all set. However, if there are two listings, I might get misled, as I almost did with "Blueberries...."

So, do you think I understand the situation? This thread is to combine listings so that different editions getting separate listings don't mislead us into inaccurate book counts?

I know I'm not making myself clear - but if it looks like I'm on the right track then I probably am and you can just say "yes."

Thanks! :)

message 24: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 363 comments The Rumpelstiltskin Problem by Vivian Vande Velde also has three listings and only needs one as far as I can tell. I don't know how to provide the links, but I'm willing to learn. Sorry if I'm being a pain.

message 25: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Ah-hah, that makes sense, Cheryl. Yes, when book editions are properly combined you'll see them all as one book (with many editions) and the book will always show whether you've read any of the editions.

I can only find one book for Rumpelstiltskin Problem by Vivian Vande Velde (it has six editions, but they're all properly combined). Could you give me links to the three you've found? The easiest way to link to the book is just to open the book's webpage, copy the URL of that page, and paste it into the comment here. (There are fancier ways, but they're not strictly necessary.)

If you search for it using the B&N search radio button, three editions show up. But yeah, they've all been combined already.

message 27: by Cheryl (new)

Cheryl (cherylllr) | 363 comments A glitch? I didn't hit the B&N button; it just came up. In any case, I'm comfortable with the whole idea now, thank you.

message 28: by Bry (new)

Bry (utqtbry) Can someone please combine the 2 editions of this book. They are the same book but 1 has a book cover without any of the cover text.

Matthew | 2 comments Hi,
The following entries should be combined under the proper title, The Blue Zones:

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22...

and

http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/60...

Not sure if all of the ratings, etc can also be combined. Thanks

message 36: by Cait (new)

Cait (tigercait) | 4988 comments Matthew, I've fixed the title and combined the books (that is, marked them as editions of each other), which does combine the ratings as well. Does it look correct now?

message 39: by Jezi (last edited May 20, 2010 09:44AM) (new)

Jezi (wjrockafellow) There are two books by Natalie Acres that each have two different listings:

Sex Games Cowboy Sex 2
Sex Games

Sex Camp Cowboy Sex 3
Sex Camp

message 42: by Andy (new)

Andy | 136 comments Are there some instructions on HOW to combine editions instead of WHEN to combine them? I just saw the combine page, and it was a little bewildering. This edition http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/81... should be part of http://www.goodreads.com/work/edition... .

While we're here, should articles be included in the series information, and if so, how should they be entered in the sort field? Thanks for your help.

message 43: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments I combined them. Here's how you combine for future reference: From the combine page put check marks (by clicking with your mouse) in the boxes to the left of the editions that need combining. Go down to the bottom of the page and click the button that says "combine editions".

message 44: by Jezi (new)

Jezi (wjrockafellow) I added the book Lovin' The Cowboy Way and found that is is a remake of Cowboys Make Better Lovers. Should they be combined even though they have different titles, but are the same book?

rivka | 45177 comments Mod
Yes.

message 46: by Jezi (new)

Jezi (wjrockafellow) there are two copies of The Hunters - I'll be hunting you that should be combined, then merged into I'll Be Hunting You. There is only an e-book available.

Audrey Stein (audreybethstein) | 2 comments Hi! I'd be ever so grateful if someone would combine these two editions -- I seem to have librarian permissions only to create/edit but not combine. Thanks!
