Ok, this mans dog followes him everywhere, soon the man goes on a trip by train, he gets a heartattack, dies, and the dog still waits for his owner to return, the dog dies and a statue is placed there in his honor.

Oh, I know this book. There may be more than one book about this dog actually. I did a perfunctory search and came up with nothing. I can't remember the dog's name. Someone is bound to know this!

Greyfriars Bobbie, based on a true story, there is a statue of the dog in Edinburgh, and several movies have been made, including a Disney one. See
