Liv (livlovelaugh) | 39 comments Not sure if anyone else posted on this but I just saw this today on the barnes website... and just had to vent!!

Ok Twilighters: What you are your thoughts on The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner: an Eclipse Novella??? What is she thinking, she nixes Midnight Sun but opts to right a book on Bree's POV?! Sigh what a waste. I'll still read it but what a F*in waste. Had to vent.

I may be stepping on toes but I did enjoy the Twilight series to an extent. I'm not a fan of Bella she's immature whiney and annoying in my opinion. I really wish she decided to finish Edward's perspective from the little she posted on her website I'd really enjoy the series more in his point of view but then again the series was directed to teenie boopers and as much as I hate to admit it I'm far from being one anymore.

Sigh...

Sophia Perez (sophiap) | 33 comments I honestly think that alot of that is going to be in the movie, therefore they decided to bring out this book so that we know what is going on. I am still hoping for Midnight Sun.

message 3: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 286 comments Liv - I've been feeling the same way about this too! If she really had to release another Twilight related book, then give us Midnight Sun!!! Otherwise, if she refuses to finish that, than I think it's about time that she moves on to something other than Twilight!

I mean, we know that she can write other things. The Host is one of my fav books! I love it! Why not continue that series, like she supposedly said she's do a few years ago! Or else go onto something else entirely.

I also agree with your opinion on Bella. I had a ton of fun reading things from Edward's perspective!

Nicole (satori1977) | 47 comments I personally think Midnight Sun would be a copout. Almost the same book as Twilight, just from someone elses perspective. That seems lazy to me. But I never liked Edward much (I know, don't shoot me!). Then again, I didn't like Bella, I also thought she was whiny. I read the books mostly for Jacob and Alice. I would love to read a book about how Alice became a vamp, about her lost memories.

Oh, and who is Bree?? For the life of me I can't place that name.

I'm with you, Nicole. I don't think I'd read "Midnight Sun" for the same reasons as you. But a book from Alice's perspective, now that I'd read.

I didn't have a clue who Bree was either, but I guess she was a newborn vampire in Victoria's army that was in maybe ten pages of "Eclipse." Weird. Pretty random to write a book from her perspective, I'd say, and to release it in hardcover, too. Talk about milking it for all it's worth...

message 6: by Mariya (new)

Mariya (cr6zym0nkeyiz) | 157 comments honestly if she was gonna write another twilight related book at least finishe midnight sun and release that first. it makes me so upset and this bree book doesnt even sound that good to me.

message 7: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 286 comments Bree was the newborn vamp in Victoria's army that Carlisle tried to save but the volturi killed. I really doubt that I'll be reading it. Or if I do, I wont be buying it, just spending some time at the store reading!

message 8: by Jaime (new)

Jaime From what I read, I think you will be able to download it for free for a certain period of time. The are publishing it in a hardcover as well with some of the procedes going to charity.

message 9: by Jaime (new)

Jaime I couldnt find the original story I read that the story will be available for free but I just went to her site and she states that it will be available for download for approx a month for free.

Danielle Ruffin (poetic_mother) | 42 comments I have no interest in Bree's short life story.

message 11: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimb1206) I would love for Stephenie Meyer to write a book about Reneesme and Jacob!

message 12: by Jesslynn (new)

Jesslynn | 164 comments Dee Dee wrote: "I have no interest in Bree's short life story."

I liked Twilight, however, I think she has become very over-rated. I seriously do not care about Bree or any re-reading of her books from someone else's POV. How boringly egotistical can you be to think that anyone would want to pay for the same story under someone else's pov?

@ Kim, IF I was going to read anything else by her that was also connected to Twilight, then it would be abt Renesme and Jacob. I would just hope that no one feels the need to make another movie about it.

message 13: by Cassie (new)

Cassie (cassielo) | 37 comments She did explain that she wrote Midnight Sun as an exercise in character development. I don't see why writing from any other character's POV would be different. I liked Midnight Sun, and I'm pretty sure I would like reading this novella. I think it's great that she can write the same book from a different character's perspective and not make it seem totally like a re-read of Twilight.

I'd probably prefer not to read about a character who I know died, but it will probably still be nice to read something about the Twilight world.

message 14: by Kelley Anne (new)

Kelley Anne | 286 comments I just really wish that she'd move past Twilight and write something else.

message 15: by Meghan (new)

Meghan (meghanmiranda) | 1 comments hmmm.... I dont really think this book is going to be good. Just with that really long title, i already know its going to be crap. I dont think im going to read it because i dont want to go back to stephenie meyer and her obsessive, brain washing books.

message 16: by AH (last edited Apr 02, 2010 11:50AM) (new)

AH | 123 comments Bree appeared in Eclipse for about 10 seconds. Carlise had "rescued" her after the newborn battle. She spends her minute of fame shrieking and then the Volturi snuff her out.

I don't understand why this character merits any full story. She is about 15, so how much of a life story would she have?

I would have loved to see the story of Carlise and Esme or Edward's early years with Carlise, or even the story of the Denali clan before the story of Bree. Even the Volturi, Peter and Charlotte, the Amazons, or Jacob and Renesme way before a minor character that has 10 seconds in the story. Even a story about the wolves or the earlier wolves that made the pact with the Cullens would be better.

Just because it is from the Twilight Saga, does not mean that you need to buy it.

Just my thoughts.

Charlotte (Buried in Books) | 386 comments I'd love for her to finish Midnight Sun - which I found was a very different story to Twilight (didn't feel like a re-read at all). Edward was a very complex character and the other books made so much more sense after reading it.

As for more Twilight books - I won't be happy until the Volturi get their asses kicked. Breaking Dawn wimped out big time on that score.

When it comes to Bree - I'm not paying money for it, I'll read it for free on the website and see what it's like.

Courtney (mrs_hf) | 173 comments Kelley Anne wrote: "I just really wish that she'd move past Twilight and write something else."

I'm with you Kelley Anne. I love The Host and I think she has an amazing talent that could be focused on other amazing stories! I'd love to see her write some adult PNR but, due to what she's said in some interviews, I doubt that will ever happen.

Don't get me wrong, I've been a Twilight fan since it first came out and I've done the waiting and the midnight releases of each book/movie but I would love to see her work on something else. I think Sophia had it right. They're gonna be showing the newborns in the movie and the production company probably asked her to explain that side a little more so people weren't so lost. I think if she had really desired to tell Bree's point of view she would have done a whole book prep with updates on how far along she was and the information on the release would have been more than a "hey guess what?" kind of thing. *shrug* Who knows.

message 19: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I saw this in the news a few days ago and was not even intrigued. I agree, a story about Bree? Definitely not interested.

Liv (livlovelaugh) | 39 comments Kelley Anne wrote: "Liv - I've been feeling the same way about this too! If she really had to release another Twilight related book, then give us Midnight Sun!!! Otherwise, if she refuses to finish that, than I thin..."

Kelley Anne I'm so with you she had said in the past she's done with the Twilight story. So seriously it is a copout to write this novella when she could expand on several other characters such as Alice, Jacob and Renesmee, even the history of the Volturi would be interesting also. Eh I just feel she's beating a dead horse on this forgettable character for Bree, the new vampire who gets murdered. I only say she should finish Midnight Sun since she started it and it repetitive of a storyline and I doubt she'd ever show Edward being irritated with Bella which he should be everyone other time she speaks lol.

I'm sure she'll make tons of money. I gotta see what she does next. I did enjoy the Host but I think she's fallen into the Twilight pit and may not get out. Too bad she isn't doing really exciting moves with her expanding of charaters.

message 21: by Kate (new)

Kate (kshiv) | 96 comments Another Twilight story? ughh. If we have to read more Stephenie Meyer maybe it could be a sequel to The Host. I totally agree that if she is still going to write about Twilight, she should finish Midnight Sun. It was way more enjoyable more me that Twilight. Probably because Bella is so incredibly annoying and I want to slap her. I am not a huge Edward fan but I did like getting an insight into the way a vampire looked at things and I loved the extra information about the cullens. Book Jasper (seperate from poor, poor movie Jasper) is my favorite character and I liked getting his families point of view. I would like to say I won't read the Bree book but let's face it. We all will.

message 22: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I would love a Jacob story. But I wouldn't want to read about him waiting around for Bella's daughter to grow up.

Kate (kshiv) | 96 comments Regina wrote: "I would love a Jacob story. But I wouldn't want to read about him waiting around for Bella's daughter to grow up."

I really can't figure out how the whole imprinting thing is going to play in the movie.

message 24: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Oh yeah. It is gross/hard to accept as it is. Although I did by into it somewhat.

I was really irritated with how convenient it was to get rid of the Jacob/Bella/Edward triangle by having him imprint with the baby. But I say this as a huge fan of Jacob and he was my favorite guy in the series.

message 25: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (Savhage Temptrest) (savhagetemptress) | 330 comments I'm with the bulk of everyone else who has posted: I really wish she would move past Twilight and get into The Host. Fantastic book, just loved it, and am patiently waiting for a sequel. I will read this book because like most Twilight fans, I want to know, but I don't think I'll buy it. I'll just read it on the website. It took me forever to remember who the hell Bree was, and I'm still wondering WTF, where is Midnight Sun and the Insider's Guide?

On a further note, I would rather read about Jacob and Renesmee and I would like to see Leah find some love dammit. Those books I would surely buy, but not a POV from a character that had such a brief stint at the end of book three of this series.

message 26: by Sophia (new)

Sophia Perez (sophiap) | 33 comments I agree with everyone I think she still has more room to write about Jacob,I really enjoyed the Jacob POV in Breaking Dawm, but I don't think she will be writing anything new until all the movies are done inluding the Host movie. I started reading it, but I'm not a real big science fiction person. Was it a good book? Maybe I'll give it a another try.

You should definately give THE HOST another try - it is hard to get into but when you get attached to the characters (and you will!) it is a wonderful read! Loved the book (although it did make me cry:).

message 29: by Kez (new)

Kez | 24 comments I don't get the Host thing. Can't get into the book at all, read the first couple of chapters and stopped. I rarely stop a book, but that one, I couldn't do. I found it really stilted. I loved the Midnight Sun stuff that I read on the website. Wish she'd have finished that. x

message 30: by Gemma (last edited Apr 05, 2010 04:34PM) (new)

Gemma | 34 comments I'm actually really annoyed with Stephenie Meyer atm. It's not as if she needs the money, so I can only assume her decision to write this spin-off novella was due to her inability to let go of Twilight. Understandable, but couldn't she have just channelled it into Midnight Sun instead? Or better yet, write a spin-off people acc care about - Jacob & Nessie, anyone?
She's proved she can write other stories through The Host, and I'd be just as excited to read something completely different (or better yet, the sequel to The Host) as I would be to read Midnight Sun.
I find the prospect of reading a book about a girl who I know is going to get fried at the end kind of depressing. Despite that, I feel as if I'm obligated to read it, since I'm a Twilight fan. I can only hope Meyer isn't still sulking about the Midnight Sun thing and this is only a blip on her part.
I think I might just re-read The Host instead - it's slow starting, but once it gets going it's way better than Twilight... :L

message 31: by Kate (new)

Kate (kshiv) | 96 comments I definately think she's sulking about Midnight Sun. I find it a little obnoxious. This Bree Tanner crap is a sell-out.

message 32: by Lunartears (new)

Lunartears From what I read, the Bree stuff was something she was fiddling around with while editing New Moon, and it was supposed to be in the big companion book, but the publishers said it was too long, so they are putting it out as a novella.

Personally, I can't find fault with SM offering the e-book for free, and the book itself is going to be pretty cheap, unlike the 20dollar disaster that was Flirt (Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter, #18) by Laurell K. Hamilton

But I'm not thrilled that it's Bree's story we are getting. I want a finished Midnight Sun, I want some wolves stories ( don't Leah and Seth and the other non-imprinted wolves just SCREAM for their own stories?), something more in The Host world, I would even be happy reading about the Alaska sect of vegetarian vamps. We know Tanya was single, SM could write about her finding love, with either a human, another vamp, or *Gasp* a werewolf.

I think Meyer is just enjoying her moment in the spotlight, and I imagine that once her part in the movies is finished, we will get Midnight Sun finished. I hope, lol.

And I honestly believe anyone who would support her book adventure after her little sabbaticle is completely insane cs what if the next book she writes is turned into a movie and she doesn't release another book for another ...what has it been? like 2 or 3 years. That's insane and not fair to the "fans" of her writing. I've since moved onto other writers and would rather support those writers who actually put out books and not movies.

message 34: by Lunartears (new)

Lunartears I dunno, I see it more as she's an author, not our slave, it's her right to write whatever she wants, and if she chooses not to write another word, she has given me plenty of joy with the Twilight Saga and The Host. I'd rather her never write another word than to start churning out crap book after crap book like some authors do.

U're absolutely right! Some authors do churn out a lot of crap (LKH being one that should be burned on sight), but still has an avid reader who really liked Twilight, I would have liked to have read more books by her, instead of seeing her involvement in the making of two seriously crappy movies w/two more to come. And I don't mean to make it sound like authors are our slaves, however, we are paying for the their entertainment value and that value has diminished quite a bit since the movies have come out. Not to mention a book on Bree? a very insignificant character of those great books...who the hell cares about bree?

message 36: by Lunartears (new)

Lunartears Well, I do agree on that one-I'll read it, because the world fascinates me, but there are so many other stories I would rather be getting! :)

(And LKH was who I had in mind too, lol!)

IDK...i've lately been feeling quite taken advantage of lately bcs I don't have a good library that has books that I read in it. I usually have to buy all my books. And the authors, not just lkh or meyers have been pulling marketing/money gaining stunts and ppl have really been producing non-sense drivel that is poorly edited half the time and I freaking paid for it. Gah...

message 38: by Lunartears (new)

Lunartears That's just one reason why I switched to e-books and now depend on the kindness of internet friends to share what they buy. My library is pretty lousy too, and it's a pain having to wait for months to get the more popular books. The Kindle was a big purchase on it's own, but I've more than made up for it in cheaper books.

message 39: by Danielle (new)

Danielle Ruffin (poetic_mother) | 42 comments OH YES! The Kindle is a wonderful thing. The discount on the books has definitely made up for the cost of it.

message 40: by Lunartears (new)

Lunartears Yeah, I hate that the publishers are trying to drive prices on the e-books up though, now I have to actually hunt for the good bargains now.

message 41: by Jesslynn (new)

chucklesthescot I don't mind extra Twilight related books as long as they are good! Thanks for saying who Bree was-my mind there had been a total blank! I do wish Stephenie Meyer would stop having a snit about someone leaking Midnight Sun and just get it published! Also agree that stories about the Cullens and the Werewolf clan would be good.there are lots of good stories waiting for some of these good characters.

message 43: by Heather (new)

Heather (sparkleyturtle) | 151 comments Sorry, but I just wish people would let Midnight Sun go. Stephenie is upset that it was leaked, and I would be too. It is done. It is gone. Why do people keep bringing it up?

Bree's story was extra background stuff that she had written and decided to clean up and publish. It is easy money. Who wouldn't occassionally ride that train?
