Currently Reading? Just Finished?
"I'd go to the theater for her."Ha. I know what you mean. Can't think of any I'd go for unless they were springing for the popcorn.

Apparently The Likeness and In the Woods have been optioned for films. I agree would love to see them also.
Just started The Retribution. I have waited so long for this book, as it is a Tony Hill/Carol Jordan and I love them.
Finished Before I Go to Sleep and it was pretty good, although dragged in the middle. I'm now happily starting the new Alan Bradley
, which I bought in paper instead of ebook because I just love the covers of these books.
Mary wrote: "Just started The Retribution. I have waited so long for this book, as it is a Tony Hill/Carol Jordan and I love them."I recently read this one, Mary. I'll be interested in what you have to say about it when you've finished.
I'm currently reading a collection of short stories, Lord Peter Views the Body, by Dorothy L Sayers.
I just finished listening to
. I have already downloaded
. These books are wonderful to listen to and the plot is well developed. The characters are likeable at least the main characters. The ending took a twist that I didn't see coming.
Finished
today - it was really good and I was totally surprised to find out who the killer was, did not suspect that at all!!!
Just started Deeper Than the Dead by Tami Hoag It is set in 1985 before the onset of the technology we all know and love today. It is proving to be a very interesting read and I am looking forward to seeing how she solves the crime the 'old fashioned' way.
Linda wrote: "Finished

I just finished listening to
. I have to admit, I'm addicted to this series. I love the narrator and the characters in the book. Sue Grafton always ties up all the loose ends in each book which to me is a bonus. I hate it when a book leaves you to wonder. I've already gotten
downloaded and ready to go. I still need to finish reading
but the book isn't as captivating to me as the Kinsey Millhone series.
Elli, read Murder in the Sentier and liked it also. Am now reading Virgin of Small Plains. It reads like a novel but has undertones of a mystery as it starts off with the discovery of a beautiful dead girl found in the snow. Because of this many lives are changed. It is interesting. At first I didn't think I would like it,but it is different and a pretty good story. It is by Nancy Pickard. I probably will finish it today.
Reading an ARC of
. I usually love this series so I am excited. Also starting
which is getting very good reviews.
I just finished Triptych by Karin Slaughter. I love murder mysteries, & I love this author! She has 3 series, "The Grant County" series is the first I read. This book is the first of the 2nd, "The Will Trent" series. The third series combines characters from both series & is called, "Georgia" series. I have really loved each Slaughter book I've read so far, & am thrilled to have the others lined up waiting on me to continue. The story lines have all been unique ideas. They contain some gory details, & I love that. Some characters are great, & some are unlikable. Good stories probably need someone to hate though, so all characters serve a purpose. I highly recommend this series!

You will love it!

I actually got a chance to see her this summer at a book signing.

Linda wrote: "Sandra wrote: "I just finished Triptych by Karin Slaughter. I love murder mysteries, & I love this author! Nice to see other people get the same enjoyment.
Tay wrote: "I'm gonna jump on the Karin Slaughter bandwagon since I love murder mystery. Where should I start?"Blindsighted I read it and then waited a while before I continued the series. I didn't realize that they just got better and better. I liked Blindsighted, but it wasn't my favorite. I like all of them, but some of her books have just blown me away! I only have 3 left after the one I'm on, and then I guess I'll mourn until she releases another or I find a new author that hooks me!
Linda wrote: "Sandra wrote: "I just finished Triptych by Karin Slaughter. I love murder mysteries, & I love this author! It is nice when you can compare notes; that is why I love being part of groups in Goodreads!

Another Karin Slaughter fan here. She is one of those crime writers who has been prepared to take risks in order to keep her writing fresh, even at the risk of copping criticism from fans. That takes courage. In addition, she does not only tell a good story, she can actually string together a decent sentence.
I finished The Dogs of Riga by Henning Mankell. I liked the book but - unusually for this author - it had a large element of "espionage thriller" (sneaking across borders, etc). I didn't enjoy that part as much as the "detective" part of the book.
Taking Daniel's recommendation I read Dead Wood. No regrets. I'd even go so far and say that, at a buck, its like stealing.Without giving away too much, an ex-cop (some back story) turned P.I. is hired to investigate the apparent random murder of a guitar maker. Its told in the first person, a viewpoint I like in this genre. The protagonists sister is the local police chief and adds quite a bit to the story. The characters and pace carry the reader through the story in short order.
My only disappointment is I felt the motive for the murder seemed a little thin but still plausible. Still, it was good fun getting there.
I finished I Am Half-Sick of Shadows and enjoyed it. Good mystery for the holidays.I'm now starting
and finding the beginning a little slow. The narrative jumps around in time a bit and there's also a lot of info dump on ships and their crew, which doesn't really interest me. But I enjoyed all the other books in the series and have faith it will get better.
I just finished listening to
. It was good but not as good as the other books in this series. I have to force myself to read the last of my book that I've been reading for 2 weeks (or not reading).
I just started The Wasp Factory by Iain M. Banks. It's pretty quick reading, which is good, because I really don't want to be trapped too long in a book as creeeepy as this!
Tay wrote: "I'm gonna jump on the Karin Slaughter bandwagon since I love murder mystery. Where should I start?"Be sure to read them in order - it's a must in this case.

I looked her up so I guess I'm going to read Grant County instead Georgia or Will Trent?

Read them all in order of dates written, read Will Trent series in between.

In the "Georgia" series, the characters from "Grant County" and "Will Trent" meet, so you could start with either "Grant County" or "Will Trent", but you will have to save Georgia for last. I did the "Grant County" series first because they were written first.
Karin Slaughter
Look on the link to Karin Slaughter's page, & you will find "Series by Karin Slaughter" under "Books by Karin Slaughter."
Just finished listening to "V is For Vengeance". Another very nice effort by Ms. Grafton. (smile) I'm really dreading the end of "Z Is For Zygobranchia" (laughing) or whatever the last novel will be titled. It's been a fabulous run.
Zygobranchia? Now I've got to go look that up. I'm with you on dreading the end of a dependable series. I could never get on board with peanut butter and pickle sandwiches, but I'll miss Kinsey, as well as Henry and the rest.
Brought "V is for Vengeance" home from the library today. Still reading Dead Man's Grip which I am liking a lot. Also reading Ghost on Black Mountain which I am also liking.

I liked the 'retro' feel to it and the killer was not easy to spot until the very end when all pieces of the puzzle came together. The lack of modern technology added to the suspense. As usual Tami Hoag tells a good story.

I just started Halloween Party by Agatha Christie for my book club. It is pretty good so far. Its been a while since I read a Christie.
Renee wrote: "A-ha! Zygobranchia! That'll keep Kinsey nicely on the beach, no?"(laughing). I suppose she could be solving the case of the missing abalone.

Have just started The Last 10 Seconds by Simon Kernick. I've only read the first 2 pages and I'm gripped already!

My husband feels I should be reading the physical books I have in my home. Pft! I'll listen to G, H & I then take a break. You can catch up since I have a lot of physical books to read. ;)

I've been reading In the Woods slowly because it's that good and I agree it would be a great movie. Denise Mina writes a mean thriller too... I'd go to the theater for her.
