Currently Reading? Just Finished?

going to start with The Book of the Dead by douglas preston now"
Love Pendergast, his new book comes out next Tuesday. Can't wait.

I've read a few of her books too and have enjoyed. I've got a number still on my TBR shelves.

Found Henkell later in life. Book was sitting on the shelf in the library and just picked it up. Then it was still waiting to be read when I received notice that it was due in a couple days. Found I couldn't renew it. Seemed there was a waiting list. So I read it with no trouble by the time it was due, and all of a sudden I had a bunch of Mankell on the hold list for me! He's definitely one of my favorites. Another one I couldn't believe I never heard about!

I hope you enjoy it, I'm expecting to get it this evening, soon now, and I'm waiting for it to read it next .... hope I enjoy it too!

Henkell? Who is that ;)

I assume you are joking about the name of Henning Mankell who is one of the most famous authors in the country i live in ;)

No, I am definitely not joking! I had never heard of him. I'm sure many haven't in the country I live in. But I am so glad I did. He is among my favorites now.

If you've loved the others, you will definitely love this one as well!

I like Dunning, too. If only I could get back to the series and finish Two O'Clock Eastern War Time. I only seem to read it in spurts.
Read the first two Sherlock Holmes novellas, A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four, both of which are wonderful fun and can be had for free from Gutenberg. Here are the links:

I am hoping to get Iron House from library soon. I have read all his books so far and have yet to be disappointed.

I hate it when nothing grabs me! Good luck for a better book next time, Jeanette!

I like Dunning as well, although I didn't particularly enjoy Two O'Clock Eastern Wartime.. It wasn't much like the Cliff Janeway books..

I know he is just consistently good.

I'm not particularly enjoying it either. I've been reading it for years. I am closing in on the conclusion. Just not fast enough.

I think the first two is quality reads but the short stories is Doyle best writing, storywise. Great story after another in Adventure and Memoirs of Sherlock Holmes collections.
His writing is much finer, crisper in short form.

After your comments, Jan and Bill...I think I'll just stick to the Dunning's Janeway series, but I won't be in any hurry...I have far too many good series on the go as it is! Booked to Die is okay at half way through, but in no way exceptional.

Hi JT. I agree about the atmosphere in A Place of Execution. I could feel the cold damp of those dark winter nights.
Be sure to check out the discussion of this book in the group read folder.

Great book. Nothing flashy but everything is done perfectly. One of the best modern noir novels I've read.

Monica, I sort of feel the same way as you. The Janeway series isn't my favourite mystery series; I much prefer Donna Leon's Brunetti books or David Rotenberg's Zhang Fong stories for example, but at the same time I enjoy the Janeway books too. I like the whole antique/ used book experience. The last one I read, The Bookman's Promise was about following the trail of Sir Richard Burton's voyages in America around the time of the Civil War. Oddly enough, shortly after reading, I came across originals of Sir Richard Burton's biography written by his wife. Unfortunately, they were a bit too expensive for my budget, but it was neat tying the two together. The Janeway stories are always worth a read. :0)

Hi Melanie, I read this book some time ago and really enjoyed it. There is quite a bit of suspense regarding the back story. We also read this as a group read and here is the link to the discussion. I think all the spoilers are pretty well marked but be careful as you go.
