Reacher is suppsed to be tall, they are going to have to fit Cruise with some mighty lifts in those shoes. Just don't see it and I won't which is really too bad because he is one of my favorite book characters.

Oh me too... Reacher is supposed to be big and intimidating, I'd think Dwayne Johnson or Vin Diesel or someone way before Tom Cruise. But I usually don't watch movies based on books I like anyway, with a few outstanding exceptions it almost always disappoints.

Ohhh... he's nice! Yea, I don't like Cruise very much in any case, and he's too boyish to play Reacher (I think).
PS: You're right Diane... too short!

Great books!!! love them all! I even like all of harlan coben's stand alones.

Good to hear it, Elli. I should warn you that that main character is dark and probably unlikable to many readers..."
Elli, a good library system is a great thing. Ours up here in Portland is good too. Yeah, we do read similar authors, I've noticed -- John Lawton and Alan Furst especially. I've definitely found more good ones here on GR by seeing what others have read. Enjoy the Bruen novel!

Definitely wrong. The whole thing about Jack Reacher is how big he is.

Which Bruen have you read by the way ? Let me know if you have questions about his older works, stand alones.

Mohammed, I read Once Were Cops and think this one was my first for Bruen. But I'll read him again. My wife's a big fan and has read a few of his. I think I have The Guards nearing the top of my pile. I'll be sure to come asking questions if I have them, thanks.

I have read just one Jack Reacher book 61 Hours but based on the description of Jack Reacher that I recall, the casting of Tom Cruise in the part is so wrong!! It is like casting Sylvester Stallone as Hercule Poirot - wrong on so many levels!!! I think Liam Neeson would be a little bit closer to the mark (at least he is tall and can act!)

ROFL

Maybe Daniel Craig.

I just finished it also and enjoyed it. It started out pretty intensely. In the middle it seemed as if it were two completely different stories and I was wondering how they were going to tie them together. They did and very well I thought.

His stand alones are very good but The Guards and the best Jack Taylor books are better than 99% of crime books of any kind i have read. Let me know what you think after you read it.

Oh - i didn't know Mary Stewart write the Moonspinners! Like Mike I remember the Hayley Mills Disney version - I had nightmares about poor Hayley hanging from the windmill!
Hi Jeanette, I thought of the Mary Stewart Moonspinners too when I saw you were reading Moon Spinners. I read the book and saw the movie and enjoyed both.

How cool is that, I love meeting authors, He is one of my favorite authors and I love his Ty books.

So far its enjoyable, not much character development, but the story is interesting.
Anyone have any thoughts on..."
I read that one so long ago, nothing is sticking out in my mind about it right now.....

Have heard good things about this book and I know a second one has recently come out. Let me know what you think. Have not read it yet but it is on my TBR list.
Gave up on the chick lit... just not my thang!
Especially as I couldn't wait to start A Study in Scarlet, which I have never read. *gasp*
And I'll be starting The Apothecary Rose soon.

By the way does anyone know if he is the same Mark Pearson, that has co-written the new James Patterson - Private London?

I can't imagine Tom Cruise playing the role of ANY of my favourite fictional characters! This is perhaps one of the reasons why i rarely watch a move or television show that encompasses any of the characters i regularly read and enjoy so much on paper.

Liked the setting (small English village invaded by artist people in the late 1940s), but having a detective who is more-or-less psychic is almost cheating, isn't it?
But it was much better than her other novel I read recently, her first, The Man in the Queue. Which had problems of construction (some changes in narrative voice that didn't always work), detection (she had to fall back on murderer confession), and language (an inundation of "Dagos").

I love Andrew Gross, have you started it and how is it going so far?

Have heard good things about this book and I know a second one has recently come..."
Have read Little Friend, one of my favorites and I read Katzenbach for years, though he hasn't written for a long time. Is he Dead? Will try the others you mentioned. Thanks.

I've read most of his, he is a very good writer and his stories are interesting. Soem of his mysteries have been on TV also. PBS I think.

I've also read a lot of the Wallander books and a couple of Mankell's stand alones. He's a very good writer. His novels are not exactly light and easy to read, though. (Not that there's anything wrong with that!)

It's hard when "real life" gets in the way of reading and doing the other things you actually want to do!
PS. I hope that cold is completely gone very soon, Elli.

I would be interested to know how you like the earlier Miss Marples. Nemesis is the last one (though not the last one published). It's usually not considered to be one of Agatha Christies best since it was written in her later years. Although a not so good AC is better than most other mysteries. The first Miss Marple Murder at the Vicarage is one of my favorites.

Hi Katie (and Kim and Diane),
Faceless Killers was the Group Read way back in October 2009. Here's the link so you can check out what everyone said about it:

I was traveling this weekend so finished A Place of Execution and started Death Without Company, which I think is being made into a TV series, while in airports and on planes.

Coincidentally I learned this on the same day I decided I wouldn't be seeing the movie. ;D He's just so wrong for the role. Seriously, I have nothing against Tom Cruise, and I enjoyed him in Knight & Day. But personally I would have gone with someone like Mark Valley (Human Target) or... anyone else really.
