I find this is a tough time of the year for reading. There're just so many things going on that I can't seem to stay focused for long. Short story collections are ideal for me right now.

That is true. I'm also struggling. Everybody wants attention right now. I haven't read a lot of mystery this year, concentrating mostly on Science Fiction. However, I recently finished Thirteen Hours and will be reading a lot more Deon Meyer in the new year. I also want to start the Elvis Cole series by Robert Crais. Another series I discovered in 2010, and which blew me away, is the Agent Pendergast novels by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child. This is good stuff folks!

Based on tidbits from GR, I picked up books from Brian Freeman, PJ Tracy and Laura Lippman to sample - PJ Tracy is the favorite of the three at the moment, will be following up with more of theirs!

That's a good idea, K.B. I have several short story collections on my TBR shelf. For now though I'm enjoying the Donna Leon book, happily.

I'm reading Murder Boogies with Elvis by Anne George. In this book the Birmingham, Alabama sisters - Mary Alice and Patricia - get involved in solving another mystery. As usual with Anne George it's an amusing cozy read.

Just finished Friend Of The Devil by Peter Robinson. I have read several of his DCI Alan Banks books and always enjoy them. Also finished Light Thickens by Ngaio Marsh....I am re-reading all of her Alleyn books and they are as good the second time as they were the first.

Just finished The 7-Percent Solution by Nicholas Meyer. Anyone know if this is the same guy who directed a couple of the Star Trek films? It says on the back he's got screenwriting experience. The read itself was very quick and easy, and it was amusing how he tied in a lot of Holmes/Watson stuff--even annotating his own text because Meyer stated that he'd found a copy of Watson's last, previously unpublished, manuscript about Sherlock that sets straight a lot of odd things from Doyle.

It is the same person who directed some Star Trek and several other films.

Just finished Solitaria by Genni Gunn, a GR giveaway win. I really liked this one. Also, finished Glazed Murder by Jessica Beck, a cozy mystery which was ok. Am now reading The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins. It's starting off really good!! And am reading Nevada Barr's first Anna Pigeon mystery, Track of the Cat.

Body Double by Tess Gerrisen

I like a plot that keeps moving and keeps me guessing. I was fortunate to read one right after the other that measured up to my criteria.

Are there any other Jack Reacher fans out there???

I have read a couple books with Jack Reacher. They were good. Soon I will be back reading more Jack Reacher.

I also am a Lee Child fan. I am currently also reading Running Blind. I love how meticulous Jack Reacher is in all his observations. I also love that while it's the same main character, you can jump around in the series and not miss anything.

I'm about halfway through The Arms Maker of Berlin by Dan Fesperman and finding it better going after not being sure where it was heading at first.

It's two novels in one: A present day hunt for secret archival materials; and a backstory set in WWII-era Germany that takes up half of the story. The back-and-forth can be good or bad depending on your reading tastes. It's working for me just well enough, though who's really the antagonist is a little murky (not a bad thing necessarily). I'd call this an intelligent thriller about uncovering the past.

Generally, I have a positive opinion of him.
