.Hey Barbara, Stacy Green was offering The ARC of the book awhile back. I told her that IS would read and review it. It should be coming out soon. I would recommend it. I hope that helps you.

I'm really enjoying Black Box. The strange thing is that WHITE (also set in the LAPD) ends right when The Black Box begins. So it felt like they were a matching pair.

D.R. (drmar120) | 27 comments I've always loved what I call Florida Whack-Job stories, from authors like Hiassen and Barry. I'm currently re-reading a yarn by another master of the genre, Laurence Shames--The Naked Detective. All his FL tales are set in Key West and this one is great fun, as a reluctant, cowardly PI takes on a dangerous case. I have it on good authority that Shames is working on a new Key West story, which is good news for fans.

message 9682: by Dinah (new)

Dinah Küng (dinahleekung) | 6 comments Just finished Donna Leon's Through a Glass, Darkly (Commissario Brunetti, #15) by Donna Leon Through a Glass, Darkly A comfort read, what with the usual wonderful food and predictably slow-moving Inspector Brunetti filling an eight hour work day with the usual two hours max of investigation.
The theme is environmental pollution caused by the Murano glass factories and Leon's forte, describing the atmosphere, traditions and loyalties of the Venetian scene, are as strong as ever. Her politics are less polemical in this one, and the plot not any stronger.

Recommended for those who enjoy mysteries with a European setting and an authentic American viewpoint woven in.

message 9693: by Bryan (new)

Bryan (bry422) | 29 comments Just finished Sail. I know Patterson and his team crank out 10 books a year, give or take, and most are not well received, but I try to keep an open mind and decide for myself. With that being said, this was not a good book. The wheels started to fall of for me when the snake showed up. It only got worse from there.

Joel Goldman (joelgoldman) | 3 comments Millard does it again, telling the incredible story of the assassination of President James A. Garfield, shot by a delusional man, killed by his doctors' malpractice. Garfield's death helped usher in the Civil Service and the acceptance of sterile surgical practices. Fascinating stuff told in vibrant detail. Five stars.Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine and the Murder of a President
