Currently Reading? Just Finished?
Just finished Watching The Dark by Peter Robinson. This was my first book by Robinson and I quite enjoyed it. Reminded me a bit of a British version of Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series. Starting today Tales From the Deed Box of John H. Watson MD by Hugh Ashton.

Glad to hear you enjoyed. I gather there is a TV mini-series featuring Inspector Banks. I'm pretty sure it's now on PBS on Thurs nights.. :0)
I'm just starting Breaking Silence, the third book in Linda Castillo's crime series set in a small town with a large Amish population. Her books are well written, if occasionally gruesome.
Jackie Renee wrote: "Just started reading In a Lonely Place by Dorothy B. Hughes. (1947, Crime Noir)"Ah! That book has been on and off my list for years. Looking forward to hearing what you thought of it.
Tracy wrote: "I finished Black House last night and will be starting onHeartsick today."I enjoyed Heartsick a lot, and continued with the other books in the series. Just finished #5 Kill You Twice and each book has been as good as the previous.
Hope you enjoy it!

I recently watched a documentary, "The Devil's Playground" about 16 year old Amish kids going on Rumspringa - where they can basically do whatever they want outside the Amish community. That was quite an eye opener.

I am liking it so far and am glad to hear that the rest of the series is good as well. I will probably be adding them to my ever growing list. :)

As a child my dad and mom took me to visit Holmes County, Ohio every year, so I'm very familiar with the area that is the setting for the books. (In general that is, because I don't recall a town named Painters Mill, and I believe it is fictional.)
I only just found out that Lifetime Network made a movie of the first book in this series. I wonder did anyone see it? Was it any good?
Dorie wrote: "I'm just starting Breaking Silence, the third book in Linda Castillo's crime series set in a small town with a large Amish population. My son and his family live in Middlebury, IN and when we go visit we see the buggies and horses. They have many farms there and many of them are my sons friends and customers. There homemade ice cream and fry pies are to die for. I am starting A Cold and Lonely Place: A Novel.

Perfect! And great reviews as well:)

I saw the movie, called "An Amish Murder." I thought it was a pretty fair adaptation of the book - worth watching.

(laughing over Ken's and Renee's comments)I'd like Dave Robicheaux to meet a rich man who isn't corrupt. I guess that's not a "little thing", but it still bothers me even though JLB's prose is second to none in today's literature.

Do you think there is such a thing?

Thanks Bill. I've read about 50 pages and am already sucked in! This is my first Cleeves so I can't compare, but loving this so far.
Renee wrote: "Just started Whiskey Sour. Don't be fooled by the (almost) too cute title. It's no cozy."How true! Very clever titles and covers though, considering the main character but no, not cosy.
I enjoy this series very much :)
I finished Heartsick last night, fantastic book! and am going to start Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter later today.
Just finished Tales From the Deed Box of John H. Watson MD by Hugh Ashton, containing three short stories featuring Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. Starting today The Sixth Man by David Baldacci.
Just finished The Snowman and enjoyed the book but found it sort of confusing at times the way it jumped around. Reading Jet ( which is a choice for the bookclub) andThe First Prophet by Kay Hooper. For anyone that has a Kobo the book Jet is a free download for awhile.
I loved The Redbreast. And Nemesis is on my list. But these are the second and third installments, no? Are the first two books in English anywhere?
I've read The Redbreast as well and enjoyed very much. I've got two more of Nesbo's books to read, just purchased The Snowman the other day. Looking forward to reading them
Tracy wrote: "I finished Heartsick last night, fantastic book! and am going to start Crooked Letter, Crooked Letter later today."Good luck with Crooked. I don't mean to discourage, but it was a grind for me to get through that book.
Reading Afraid by Jack Kilborn. It's not good, yet I can't stop reading it and I'm enjoying it. Does that make any sense?

I am having some difficulty getting in to it. I started to read it last night and found myself easily distracted. I am going to give it another try tonight but I may not be in the right mood for this one right now. I've heard some great things about it so we'll see. If not I have a lot of other books here to read. ;)
Rachel wrote: "i didn't like crooked letter but many did- i will say it improves as it progresses"Thanks Rachel, I will give it a chance and if it doesn't grab me I'll move on.
Thankfully I have finally finished A Cold Day For Murder - Dana Stabenow. Now listening to Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen.
I was reading
Trunk Music but since a book I've been waiting for at the library became available, I put that aside so I could read it. I'm now about 30% through
Sharp Objects and really liking it so far. The way she writes is truly like a puzzle! You don't get too much too soon so I'm really enjoying it! :)
Finished listening to Pride and Prejudice - Jane Austen which too bad. Now I am reading All Fall Down - Erica Spindler.
I finished The Beekeeper's Apprentice, the first in the Sherlock Holmes/ Mary Russell mysteries and enjoyed very much. I will be reading more in this series. I'm still working on Death in Ecstasy and enjoying very much. About to give a Michael Gilbert mystery a try, Close Quarters.
I just finished "The Companion", by Carolann Hays. It was a page turner to say the least. There was humor, suspense, and I really got into the characters. I'd recommend that book to anyone.I am currently reading, "Mary Mary" by James Patterson. So far,it's another great job with an Alex Cross novel. There's enough twists and turns in this story to rival a roller coaster.
I just finished The Keeper of Lost Causes
which is one of those Danish mysteries that's been cropping up lately. This was a very nice read mainly because of the the main character, a curmudgeon type detective and his Syrian assistant. This is the first book in a series.

Oh good Bill. You'll have to post your thoughts on it. I think you'll be able to figure out the mystery but I enjoyed all the characters and it had that bit of humor that I like as well.

Read this recently too and found it very good. I liked the little bit of humor with his assistant as a balance to the rather grim main story. I believe the Syrian assistant returns in the next book too.

Just finished Raven Black which I really enjoyed. I liked the way the author used the POV of the suspect to create doubt.
I really like this thread as it helps us to pick andchoose books that we might like to read by recommendations. I have just finished
This was my book club's choice. It is blurbed by saying it is like Harper Lee's
. Somewhat, racism, lynching, etc. but what was really meaningful to me wasthe unique characters especially Grandma, Daddy and
Harry. A real tender story, a coming of age, mystery. At first I didn't want to read another
racist story, but I thought this was worth it and the
clues are multiple as to who did it?????????????????

I want to get into that series by Patricia Cornwell very soon! I hope you enjoy the first one!
