Just finished Cold Days. The first 1/3 worried me. I was afraid it was going to be as weak as the previous "Ghost Story", but then it picked up and suddenly the old Harry Dresden was back!! Pretty awesome, all in all!

I started . It is a new author for me. I didn't think I would enjoy it but it quite pleasant. Not like the usual, descriptive murder books that I end up reading.

Read and reviewed my first Boris Akunin, about a police investigation of some really big murder scenes in Paris, then along with the investigation, some on shipboard, The Leviathan during a trip to it's next destination. Forgot the exact name. Now am reading my first Louise Ehrlich (Round House), and am liking it. Also Deborah Swift's Gilded lily which I've been dying to do since finishing her first wonderful historical novel. It was released in the U.S. on the 27th. And, yes, I bought it for Kindle....

If you like crime with a twist and cross genre into horror/paranormal (which I do!) I Remember You by Icelandic author, Yrsa Sigurdardottir is definately worth a read. Chilling in more ways than one ... finished it late last night and thought the plotting and ending particularly good ...

I finished What Was Lost this morning. I liked it. It was one of those books that lingers in your thoughts for a while. It reminded me of Kate Atkinson's books in that regard.

Am really liking The Round House by Louise Ehrlich and it's the first one I've read by her. Really a good book. We taught on the Navajo Reservation at one period in our lives and it seems familiar to us even though this was the Ojibway in northern MN, something universal in the local politics and jobs connected, the hierarchies, the jokes, the attitudes, what you take seriously & what with a grain of salt....humor and honor, attitudes and how and when you worked around. Very human and very real. I like this author, she can tell a real story and let it Be real. Perhaps my favorite of the native American genre novel authors. And a darn good mystery!

Finished last night...4 stars. It's not as good as her previous ones IMO with a lot more characters to keep track of, but I'll agree it was cleverly written. I'll be interested to read her next one:)

I just finished Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder and it was very good. I didn't know who the murderer was until she let us know. The cookie recipes sound delicious!

I love her. You should go back to the begining of the series w/ Jeffrey & Sara (I think it was Grant Falls?) A great series. Then as when you're about half way through that she starts the series with Will Trenton. They eventually combine in to one series which are the current books. Well worth starting from the begining. One of my favorite authors.

I've read a lot of those. They're just easy reading and they never become more elaborate but they're nice when you need an easy read. I've tried a lot of the recipes too & the ones I've tried are good.

I'm reading The Case of the Shoplifter's Shoe by Erle Stanley Gardner. I love Perry Mason and his crafty ways but these books seem so antiquated in some ways. The cops don't even advise the suspects of their Miranda rights!!

(Does anyone know what year they first had to do that?)

I did a quick check of Google and it looks like the Miranda rights came into use in the mid 1960s, maybe 1966.

Recently finished Killers Are My Meat by Stephen Marlowe. It's a vintage mystery (1957) in the vein of the Chandler-esque private eye with a bit of international intrigue thrown in. It's not as good as some of the greats of the genre, but it's a worthy successor in my book--a good solid mystery from a little-known vintage author. My review is here

Finished the audio of Death of a Chimney Sweep which I really enjoyed and started the audio of My Man Jeeves. These short stories are great for listening to while driving around on errands.

Started Wicked Autumn for my in person group later this month. It's off to a great start.
